24.01.2022 COTA Australia has launched a petition calling on new Health Minister Greg Hunt to reverse a Medicare anomaly that prevents over 170,000 Australians in residential aged care accessing mental health services. When the Better Access to Mental Health Care program was introduced in 2006, nursing homes were considered institutions and their residents were excluded from the program. This ruling means that people receiving a high level Home Care Package are eligible for the program, but people in residential aged care are not. #agedcare #eldercare #mentalhealth

10.01.2022 Another alternative solution for the Australian Aged Care Industry that has proven highly successful in the Netherlands and other European countries. Based on the concept of a social model of care, seniors live in a household of no more than eight people, rather than the larger group settings of traditional aged care services.

09.01.2022 One organisation found to be innovating by the recent Commbank analysis report is care provider Thomas Holt, which was identified as setting the standard for the Australian aged care industry in keeping pace with significant technological changes. Love this quote by their CEO Alexandra Zammit: "This is where technology can make the biggest impact, because it frees up our staff to focus on the client. No matter how good robotics or artificial intelligence is, it wont replace one-on-one care." OECD Commonwealth Bank #innovation #healthcare #agedcare #technology

03.01.2022 Interesting Fact that lends support to the research in the below linked article: Experiments on forest bathing conducted by the Center for Environment, Health and Field Sciences in Japans Chiba University measured its physiological effects on 280 subjects in their early 20s. The team measured the subjects salivary cortisol (which increases with stress), blood pressure, pulse rate, and heart rate variability during a day in the city and compared those to the same biometrics... taken during a day with a 30-minute forest visit. The study concluded that Forest environments promote lower concentrations of cortisol, lower pulse rate, lower blood pressure, greater parasympathetic nerve activity, and lower sympathetic nerve activity than do city environments. In other words, being in nature made subjects physiologically less amped. The parasympathetic nerve system controls the bodys rest-and-digest system while the sympathetic nerve system governs fight-or-flight responses. Subjects were more rested and less inclined to stress after a forest bath. As a nation of city dwellers, we often make fun of our country/forest counterparts as being far too chilled and less reactive to the stresses of life. Turns out they may be a living multi-generational example of the biometric effects experienced through Forest Bathing.
02.01.2022 Anti-Aging Stem Cell Therapy Shows Remarkable Results in Human Trials.
