25.01.2022 Whilst yes, it is Summer, and Australia is known for its extreme temperatures at this time of year, parts of the country are dealing with a scorching heatwave, bringing with it temperatures of up to 46 degrees Whilst I cant complain sitting here in an air conditioned office, many of the countries tradies and other workers are out in the elements dealing with this uncomfortable heat. According to a recent article in the Daily Mail, 35C to 40C is considered to be the limi...t of high temperature tolerance for most people. Employers have a duty of care to provide a healthy and safe workplace. If you are working in areas affected by these extreme temperatures ensure you keep well hydrated, look to reduce physical activity if possible, look for shade/shelter to help reduce exposure to the sun, take regular breaks when needed, SLIP, SLOP, SLOP, and where possible try to avoid working outside during the hottest part of the day which is usually around noon to 3pm.

22.01.2022 Text Neck is the new Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Have a look at any bus terminal, train station or airport and all youll see are faces buried into smart phones and tablets. Whilst modern technology is an amazing thing and it does allow us to remain connected to friends and loved ones, or allows us to stay connected to work outside of business hours, it is creating a global epidemic and an increase in repetitive strain injuries.... The constant repetitive action is not healthy for the body, and can cause chronic headaches, shoulder/neck pain, and in some cases a curvature of the spine. How can you minimise the risk of text neck? Be aware of your posture. Take regular breaks from smart device use. Try looking down, rather than bending neck.
22.01.2022 ~ Fun Fact Friday ~ There are only 200 days left in the year. That also means theres only 27 Fridays left before Christmas ... Happy Friday all

16.01.2022 Thank you Blue Tree Project for bringing this to the publics attention. Suicide is the leading cause of death in Australians aged 15 - 44 years. This is just frightening! Its up to all of us to help get the message across that there are support groups and networks you can turn to in your time of need.... Check on your mates, your neighbours and your family members. Ask them how theyre doing, but dont just leave it at that. Go with your gut feeling. If you have concerns make sure you speak with them in depth and genuinely listen. Routinely check up on them and encourage them to seek help and re-engage with social activities and in their communities, as this is so important for your mental health. Suicide is never the answer https://www.facebook.com/41361108918/posts/416412245567478/

10.01.2022 https://thewest.com.au//investigation-launched-after-offic A Police Officer from Cockburn Police Station, Western Australia, has sadly taken his own life this afternoon, dying of a self inflicted gun wound. This comes just two months after a senior detective told an inquest into the suicide of a policeman that some officers are reluctant to speak to police-employed psychologists because they fear it could destroy their career.... Its so important for us all to help raise mental health awareness and to help break the stigma associated with mental health conditions. No one should ever feel that there is no one to talk to or no way out, other than to take their own life. Ask your family, ask your friends, ask a neighbour, ask your work mates... are you OK? A conversation can literally save a life. If you are seeking support and information about suicide prevention please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.

07.01.2022 Figures released by mental health organisation, SuperFriend, show that work-related insomnia affects 1 in 5 workers! Those struggling with work-related insomnia, one of the initial signs of mental illness, have indicated that work affected the hours they have slept, their quality of sleep, and their difficulty in switching off phones and waking in the night to go over to-do lists. There has been an increase in the proportion of workers with mental health issues, up from 1 in ...6 in last years survey, with more people experiencing work-related stress, especially regarding job security. According to the Black Dog Institue, poor mental health is estimated to cost the Australian economy more than $12 billion each year, including over $200 worth of workers compensation claims. Workplaces which heavily promote existing initiatives, such as EAPs (employee assistance program), and consult directly with their employees, can help to improve workplace culture without costly expenses being incurred.
