12.01.2022 Great TED talk by Johann Hari about addictions. His view (simplified) is that it is the lack of bonds and connections to friends, family causes the addict to be unable to deal with daily life. And if many of us examine ourselves fearlessly we might find that we excessively use drugs, or distractions like Youtube, binge TV, or political news or social media in spite of our own assessment that we do it too much and that it has a negative impact. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY9DcIMGxMs

12.01.2022 AMAZING!! TED talk by Dr Gabor Mate. His definition of addiction is: "Any behaviour that gives you temporary relief (temporary pleasure), but in the long term causes harm (has some negative consequences) and you can't give it up despite those negative consequences". My view is most of our society is addicted to something - the resolution is to go within to find answers to why we do it, and through our healing of the past and support in the present, we can learn to handle the present moment the way it is, and whatever is arising which is challenging us.
