Give the kids a sheet of cardboard/wood each, some glue and some magazines. Let them rip up and tear the magazines to their hearts content and create mosaic pictures or collages. Once they have their pictures picked out have them either glue them mosaic-style onto the cardboard to fill it all up or put them on a piece of wood for a forever keepsake! 21.01.2022 Why #socialdistancing matters...
20.01.2022 HAPPY EASTER! Through this social distancing and isolation, there's a shred of silver lining: the fact that technology can make it possible for us to enjoy these special occasions together, even if its not physically together. Schedule a video chat with family & friends this Easter to share the love, have a chat, catch up and keep each other company, anyway that's possible

20.01.2022 TODAY'S KIDS ACTIVITY...Ribbon Sticks For this you need nothing more than some strips of wide ribbon and some bamboo sticks. A few 50cm sticks will do. Tie a length of ribbon to one end. Make the ribbon length no longer than what the kids can handle. Make sure they each have a different color ribbon so there is no arguing about who's stick belongs to who otherwise what is the sense. Let the kids loose with the sticks and tell them to make shapes, circles, and snakes etc just like the gymnasts do on T.V. Share your pics of the kids doing this activity, we'd love to see them

16.01.2022 Currently Vanessa is unable to practice her Remedial Massage and Dry Needling treatments as advised by the AMT. We will keep you updated with regards to Vanessa's return to Health Hub (hopefully soon) "The Association of Massage Therapists has advised its practitioner members to shut down to help contain the spread of COVID19. Massage therapists are in close non-casual contact with their clients between 5 to 40 hours a week. They are at high risk of becoming vectors for transmission of the virus. This is not a decision that the AMT Board has taken lightly or easily. However, due to the nature of the work, massage therapists are unable to socially distance themselves from their clients and we believe the risks of transmission are unacceptably high."

14.01.2022 TODAY'S KIDS ACTIVITY...Crazy Golf Get the kids to sit down together and design a crazy golf course to run throughout the house (or just one room if you might have problems getting them to clean up afterwards). Use toys, bathroom stuff, kitchen utensils or anything else at hand to create the "holes" and routes. Small plastic golf sets are easy to come by in most toy shops, and they're usually extremely cheap. Have treats ready for whenever a child reaches the end of the golf course. Make rules very clear, no swinging at each other, no hitting the ball in the air, and keeping the clubs on the ground so nobody gets hurt. Share your pics of the kids doing this activity, we'd love to see them

13.01.2022 TODAY'S KIDS ACTIVITY...Tell Ghost stories If you're ready for a sleepless night, try an evening of ghost stories. First, find a couple of flashlights, then cover a table with a heavy blanket. The goal here is for the kids (and you) to make up ghost stories as ghoulish as they dare. Everybody crouches under the table, with just the lights from the torches and takes turn telling stories. Depending on the age of the kids participating, be prepared to be freaked out! If you don't feel like spending the night under a table you can just shut off all the lights in a bedroom or livingroom and have everyone gather around the flashlight (like a fire) and you each take turns telling a story. The one who tells the scariest story wins a special surprise! Share your pics of the kids doing this activity, we'd love to see them

11.01.2022 TODAY'S KIDS ACTIVITY...Board Games Board games are always a huge hit, so make sure you have plenty of them handy, everything from the simplest to the most advanced. There are so many to choose from just make sure you pick the ones that are age-appropriate. It's no fun to buy a game only to realize that your kids won't understand the rules or how to play. Many games now teach the kids something and really make them think so you are helping them learn while they are having fun...! Come up with new ways of playing the games; under a blanket with a flashlight, under the table, out in the shed, or even with new "home-made" rules etc. It will add that little bit of excitement to games the kids may be tired of. You can even find books that have 100's of card games or dice games, so those are two things that would be good to have on hand when all else fails! Share your pics of the kids doing this activity, we'd love to see them

08.01.2022 TODAY'S KIDS ACTIVITY...Beach at home Buy a cheap plastic double sided sandbox for the back yard. Fill one half with sand and the other half with water. Add a whole lot of kitchen utensils and containers, and the kids will occupy themselves for ages. You can buy plastic sand castle kits, buckets and little shovels pretty cheap or check garage sales and thrift stores for different shapes your kids can use to build sand castles. To make things easier on you, so that you ar...en't going around picking up all of the toys when they are done with them, get a plastic bin with a cover and tell them to put their sand toys in there when they are through, this will keep the animals from messing on them and keep them from getting lost. Also make sure you always cover the sandbox when the kids are done, or you might find that your neighbour's cats may think it's their litter box. Share your pics of the kids doing this activity, we'd love to see them
07.01.2022 Our Psychologist Margaret Vanags explains about hypnosis: There is nothing mysterious about hypnosis, in fact everyone goes into a hypnotic state several times a day. Just before sleep we enter what is called the hypnogogic state where the brain waves slow down in order for us to sleep effectively. This hypnogogic state also happens just as we are waking up in the morning just before our brain waves quicken to induce the waking state. When we are engrossed in a book or a mov...ie we also enter the hypnosis brainwave state. So in effect it is a natural state in which we pass through in our normal day to day life. A hypnotherapist is able to induce this trance-like mental state and this enables people to experience increased attention, concentration and suggestibility. IT IS NOT SLEEP. People under hypnosis are in complete control and can accept or reject any suggestion given. Can anyone be hypnotised? Contrary to stereotypes, hypnosis works best when a person is a willing participant (you cannot hypnotise someone against their will). Some people are more open to hypnotic suggestion than others but the majority of people can be successfully hypnotised. What happens during a hypnotic induction: To induce the trance-like state a person is progressively relaxed with sounds, words and particular phrases until a very deeply relaxed state is reached. This allows the sub-conscious mind to receive suggestions that normally the conscious mind would block.. What is it effective for? - Anxiety, it allows a person to take back control over anxiety. - Sleep issues - Depression, it allows the person to regress back to where depression first started and enables the therapist to provide intervention. - Social Anxiety - Weight Loss, this enables people to investigate issues surrounding their eating habits and to provide new more healthy options. This is by no means an exhaustive list, hypnosis can also be used to enhance self-confidence and to provide spiritual guidance and to explore the concept of past life experiences. If you need any further information or would like to discuss your options please ring Margaret at the Health Hub on 44541863

06.01.2022 Our couple’s therapist Melissa Neve, works online via Zoom web conference as well as seeing couples face to face. During this time of distance, isolation and uncertainty, if you are noticing an increase in tensions with your partner, please don’t hesitate to call us, if you would like to make an appointment with Melissa. Melissa has been using this platform for quite a while with remote clients as far as Alice Springs and finds it works very well. We are imagining she will ...be giving this platform even more of a work out over these next few months. ‘Anything you can do to reduce stress and enhance coping, will be of great benefit for you individually, as a couple, a family and also your community’- Melissa Neve See: www.imagotherapy.com.au for more information. From ‘The Key to Managing the Stress of COVID-19 in Your Relationship’ ‘Feeling anxiety is a normal part of life. It's normal to feel anxious about how to resolve a conflict that's tricky, or when you're taking on a new and challenging project, or even when there's a lot of uncertainty in the air about something important. Anxiety is a very uncomfortable feeling. When you don't have much capacity for feeling anxious or anxiety becomes overwhelming, then it can be debilitating. Having a tolerance for feeling anxious is what allows you to go forward and grapple with the issue at hand. The key is to build your tolerance for feeling anxious and turn towards each other for connection and support. If you can build your tolerance, you won't create so much distance by arguing or withdrawing. Building your tolerance also means you'll feel more vulnerable, because you won't be pushing the feelings away by your reactions’

01.01.2022 Hello everyone, I thought that I would post a few thoughts about taking care of our mental health in the weeks of social distancing and isolation that many of you are experiencing right now. Understandably the challenges involved in this period of separation from family and loved ones can bring about feelings of anxiety, stress, frustration and fear. Some of the strategies that might be useful not only to my clients but to everyone regardless of their circumstances are bri...efly outlined below. 1. STAY CONNECTED: It is essential to our mental health to maintain relationships during this time, It can be as simple as phoning a friend to share your experiences, using video/skype to check in with a family member or spending quality time with the people you live with. 2.STRUCTURE YOUR DAY: It is beneficial to plan your day to restore a sense of normality to your daily life. Schedule tasks to plan out your day and include activities that you might enjoy such as reading, studying, taking the opportunity to learn something new to keep your brain active (this also helps improve memory). Board games, jigsaws and get out in the garden to get some fresh air. 3.REACH OUT: For people who are experiencing an increase in their mental health connect with your GP to be referred to a psychologist or other mental health professional for help, DON'T GO IT ALONE OR TRY AND RIDE IT OUT. All referrals from GP's to psychology services at Health Hub are bulk billed. I, like everyone else hopes that the current crisis is over soon. I will be doing mental health consults by phone or Telehealth during this crisis. Please don't hesitate to call Health Hub for advice during this time. Margaret Vanags Psychologist at Health Hub.
