10.01.2022 Today is World Patient Safety Day and the WHO is is calling for greater recognition of the enormous risks health professionals take on behalf of the community every day - especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. 05.01.2022 What happens in the event of serious injury or death to patients? The Health Issues Centre convened a Consumer Working Group to assess the implications of the Government's proposed Duty of Candour. This is legislation to ensure that, should a serious adverse event occur of a level 1 or 2 Incident Severity Rating, a health service is required to: provide an apology to the person harmed.... provide an explanation to the injured consumer and identify the facts of the matter. outline a course of remedial action to prevent a re-occurrence of the incident. An Issues Paper to consider the potential avoidable and unintended consequences that may result from Duty of Candour being developed. This should then inform the drafting of legislation. This Issues Paper will be provided to consumers prior to the forum. All interested consumers are invited to attend. And it's important that you do, for it may be your only opportunity to become more informed and express your opinion. The Duty of Candour Public Forum will be held via Zoom 10-11.30am AEDT, 25 February 2021. Register Here: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/duty-of-candour-forum-for-c
