19.01.2022 Ive returned to both my jobs, one at Orion family Physiotherapy and home clinic since being allowed to practice, and have been confident in my decision. I send an online intake and Covid-19 screening form for all clients to fill out and send it back to me before each appointment, wipe down everything and give myself plenty of time between treatments to make sure everything has been sanitised, including door knobs, face holes etc. ... Clients have needed treatment now, more than ever. So many injuries from lack of movement, to change in exercise and not so good home office set ups has left people in really bad condition. Mental health is also an issue as many people are overwhelmed and depressed. I have not felt that being a myotherapy and remedial massage therapist is as important as it is right now. Yes its a risk but so is shopping at the supermarket. Actually Im more worried about the supermarket as I have more control with who I come into contact with at work and know that we are way more hygienic. If you didnt receive anything from Healthland Remedial Therapy please let us know and we will resend to you again. Take care Penny Your therapist

While a neck strain typically heals on its own within a few days or weeks, the pain may range from mild and achy to sharp and debilitating.... Do these exercises only if you do not have pain or numbness running down your arm or into your hand. Do not do any exercises that make your neck pain worse. CHIN TUCK Place your fingertips on your chin and gently push your head straight back as if you are trying to make a double chin. Keep looking forward as your head moves back. Hold 5 seconds and repeat 5 times. ISOMETRIC NECK FLEXION Sit tall, eyes straight ahead, and chin level. Place your palm against your forehead and gently push your forehead into your palm. 17.01.2022 Are core stability exercises a good idea? Everybody knows the "plank" exercise, or the "superman".. But are we helping our patients with low back pain with these core stability exercises? No, according to Prof. Peter O'Sullivan and prof. Paul Hodges. For some patients it can help, but most of the time, people with chronic low back pain already have too much tension in their muscles.... Quotes from the article: "Our spines were designed to move, not be stiff, and the problem is too many core building exercises require no movement at all. In fact, years of core strength exercises could be making a person's chronic back pain worse" "He says people with back pain are already too rigid. Their muscles have tensed up as a protective response to the pain and core strength exercises can be counterproductive. "The common belief around tensing up a structure that's already tense doesn't really make sense," Prof O'Sullivan said. Relaxing your muscles around your trunk when you have back pain is actually more helpful, he said." Core stability exercises are perfectly fine in a comprehensive exercise program ofcourse, especially for athletes. Only the idea that the low back is unstable and needs to be protected and stiffened by these exercises is not correct. The spine is designed to move Credit Trust me, I'm a Physiotherapist

16.01.2022 Dear clients, I am a massage therapist who works in close, non-casual contact. In an effort to keep my clients safe, I have been closely monitoring developments regarding COVID19, both locally and overseas. I have made changes to the way I practice, implementing enhanced infection control and screening procedures. ... I am also working hard to support and disseminate the public health messages released by the Department of Health and WHO. However, as a conscientious and caring health practitioner, I recognise that these efforts are not enough to fully protect my clients or myself from the risk of contracting COVID-19 or do they provide adequate containment of the virus. The nature of my practice makes it impossible for me to observe the mandated requirement to practise social distancing I have direct contact with every one of my clients for anywhere between half an hour to 2 hours, which is clearly a high-risk situation for all parties. As a potential vector for the spread of the virus, I want to be able to act now and play my part in containing the spread in my community. I HAVE DECIDED TO ClOSED MY Massage & Beauty business for COVID-19 until thing get better. STAY SAFE EVERY ONE. TAKE CARE & ALL THE BEST EVERY ONE Yours sincerely, Penny Healthland Remedial Therapy

15.01.2022 Dear client, I am a massage therapist who works in close, non-casual contact with 20-30 per week. However, as a conscientious and caring health practitioner, I recognise that these efforts are not enough to fully protect my clients or myself from the risk of contracting COVID19 nor do they provide adequate containment of the virus. The Government stimulus package announced on Thursday does not provide a single measure that will support me financially to stop working and adequately mitigate the high risk of virus transmission in my clinical practice. And, as a self-employed massage therapist, I do not have the safety net of paid leave to fall back on. Please pressure the Treasurer and Cabinet to widen the stimulus to encompass self employed practitioners like me so that we can act now to appropriately assist in the massive public health efforts to prevent the spread of the virus. Yours sincerely, Penny Healthland Remedial Therapy

07.01.2022 Credit Healthy Street SCIATICA WHAT IS SCIATICA?... Sciatica is the result of a neurological problem in the back or an entrapped nerve in the pelvis or buttock. There are a set of neurological symptoms such as: Pain (intense pain in the buttock) Lumbosacral radicular leg pain Numbness Muscular weakness Gait dysfunction Sensory impairment Sensory disturbance Hot and cold or tinglings or burning sensations in the legs Reflex impairment Paresthesias or dysesthesias and oedema in the lower extremity that can be caused by the irritation of the sciatic nerves (the lumbar nerve L4 and L5 and the sacral nerves S1,S2 and S3) CAUSES OF PAIN Pain is a result of irritation of the sciatic nerve. it can be constant or intermittend. The pain may be worsened by certain movements like coughing or sneezing (these movements increase the intra abdominal pressure). Sitting, bending, prolonged standing or rising from a sitting position can aggravate or increase the pain. PAIN PATTERNS In regards to relief the pain, the supine position decreases the pressure on the herniated disc and will subsequently decrease pain. Pain is located along the distribution of the nerve and can be felt in the back, buttocks, knee and leg. It only radiates to one side of the leg and can result in reduced power, reflexes and sensation in the nerve root. Also gait dysfunction (toe walking, foot drop and knee buckling), paresthesias or dysesthesias are frequent neurological symptoms. SYMPTOMS BASED ON NERVE COMPRESSION Sciatica can be caused by the compression or irritation of nerve L4, L5, S1, S2 and S3. The sciatica symptoms depend on which nerve is compressed or irritated. L4: When the L4 nerve is compressed or irritated the patient feels pain, tingling and numbnessiIn the thigh. The patient also feels weak when straightening the leg and may have a diminished knee jerk reflex. L5: When the L5 nerve is compressed or irritated the pain, tingling and numbness may extend to the foot and big toes. S1: When the S1 nerve is compressed or irritated the patient feels pain, tingling and numbness on the outer part of the foot. The patient also experiences weakness when elevating the heel off the ground and standing on tiptoes. The ankle jerk reflex may be diminished. source: B.W Koes, M.W Van Tulder, W.C Peul. 04.01.2022 LATEST UPDATE We continue to advocate on your behalf our members, our community. Together as industry associations, ANTA, ATMS, Massage and Myotherapy and MA have been working on behalf of our members, asking all State and Territory governments to clarify whether remedial massage and myotherapists can continue to practice during Coronavirus restrictions.... One by one, governments have come back to us with sensible responses that allow essential healthcare services, such as remedial massage, myotherapy and soft tissue therapy to continue caring for patients. In a victory for common-sense, yesterday, the Queensland government responded to our member advocacy permitting these services to operate. Their updates to the Directive can be read at: https://bit.ly/2RWTP1H We are still working together for clarification from SA. You can help us to help you by contacting the South Australian government see https://bit.ly/2VpKgdF for contact details and a suggested letter format.
