24.01.2022 As Health Ninja Kids we are constantly growing and we need to feed our bodies so sometimes in between Breakfast and Lunch we need some yummy foods as our tummies start to grumble. So instead of grabbing a chocolate bar, packet of chips or lollies. Try one of these super easy to make treats: - Fresh or canned fruit - Vegetable sticks carrot, cucumber or capsicum with... - Low fat dips or low fat cheese cubes - Corn on the cob - Plain popcorn Eat to fuel your body every day :-)

23.01.2022 Modern society is often structured for a one size fits all approach and the school system is not suited to all. Give your kids an opportunity to: Talk about what they love to do, Do what they want more of in their life, Share their dreams about the future, ... Talk about how they want to contribute Try new things/activities Allowing your kids to find their passion and pursue it with vigour and support is a gift to them and I believe a greater gift to our society. See how we can work together to further explore your child's capabilities at www.healthninjas.com.au

21.01.2022 Perfect Posture With many of our kids currently working on posture in health Ninjas in Schools. I thought it would be a great time to share a video. Tristan Nottle is a pilates teacher that has a background in ballet, and has worked with many hundreds of kids (and adults including Dr Glenn). This short video shows a few simple exercises that can help with posture. https://vimeo.com/276142135/e027b67fe7

21.01.2022 Studies show that kids do not eat enough of the 5 food groups-vegetables, fruit, grains, meat and alternatives. And that they also: -eat too much food that is high in energy and low in nutrients (discretionary food) - eat too much sugar, saturated fat, and sodium (salt). Here at Health Ninjas, we work one on one with parents to solve this issue and have developed a module within our program that can help you and your kids make the shift to a healthier lifestyle. For a limited time only we are offering 30 days on Health Ninjas for free. No hidden costs. No hidden contracts. Try now: https://healthninjas.kartra.com/page/fussy_eaters

21.01.2022 The best way to stay active and accountable is to keep track of what you do each day so why not create a "Healthy Kids Activity Diary" Keep track of what you do and use the table to record your physical activities and times. See if it adds up to at least 60 minutes each day. Go get them Health Ninjas!

21.01.2022 There are some strong links between screen time and sugary food. A survey conducted in 2010 found that the number of overweight and obese kids in NSW had risen from around 1 in 10 children in 1985 to almost 1 in 4 children in 2010. Kids who watch TV for more than 2 hours each day are more likely to have an unhealthy diet, are less likely to eat fruit and are less likely to participate in physical activity. So lets lead by example Health Ninja kids and reduce our screen time and increase our sunshine!

20.01.2022 Do you know how much water you should be drinking? There are some alarming statistics about our Aussie Kids that show "kids aged between 4 and 12 years who drank 500ml or more of fruit juice or cordial per day were twice as likely to be overweight or obese as children who consumed none" So what does that mean for us? The recommended daily amount of fluids is:... - 7 glasses (1.5 litres) for 9 to12 year olds - 8 to 10 glasses (2 litres) for 13+ years But thats not all here are some helpful hints you can implement right now: - Pack a water bottle whenever you go out. - In summer, put a frozen water bottle in your lunch box. - Keep a bottle of cold water in the fridge in summer and drink warm water in winter. It's as easy as that

20.01.2022 Throughout our entire lives the food we eat plays an important role in our health and wellbeing. Good nutrition starts at a young age and the habits that we develop when we are young contributes to quality of life, helps maintain healthy body weight, protects against infection, and reduces the risk of chronic conditions. An Australian Report "Nutrition Across All Stages" has national dietary guidelines to support optimal nutritional and health outcomes for the population. I...t shows that Australians of all ages generally: - do not eat enough of the 5 food groupsvegetables, fruit, grains, meat and alternatives and dairy products and alternatives - eat too much food that is high in energy and low in nutrients (discretionary food) - eat too much sugar, saturated fat, and sodium (salt). Health Ninja's is about making healthy choices at a young age.

18.01.2022 Movement is absolutely essential for an active and attentive brain. Fun, moderate exercise gets your blood flowing which delivers more oxygen to your brain which fires up the nervous system, stimulating important areas of the brain for better cognition. Recent research by Neuroscientists has found that the input the brain receives from exercise and movement (proprioceptive input) literally recharges the brain. In particular, aerobic exercise effects our hippocampus which is the area for learning and memory. So lets get up and moving to increase attention during periods of learning. 14.01.2022 As a father of 4 and chiropractor for the last 25 years, I have noticed that children are spending more and more time in front of devices and screens. If its not the TV, its a Computer, Laptop, Tablet or smart-phone. This increase in device time is having an impact on kids. Their posture, sleep patterns, weight, physical fitness and brain function are all at risk. Find out how you can manage this increased screen time at www.healthninjas.com.au

08.01.2022 Stress activates of the sympathetic part of the nervous system. It is normal to have times of stress. If we didnt have some stress we would not be able to adapt. The sympathetic nervous system helps our body to adapt to stressful situations. This is Ok for short term stressful events, but if stress is long term or repetitive our system gets effected. One way you can reduce your stress and relax is to get out into nature. There is something energising and grounding about brea...thing fresh air, connecting with the earth, hearing the sounds of our natural environment and feeling the sunshine warm our skin. Its relaxing even thinking about it. Ask your kids what they feel when they are outside compared to being inside on screens.

06.01.2022 In the UAE, government is intervening to stop unhealthy foods being given to children in schools due to the growing concerns around childhood obesity. Do we need to resort to this or is there another way?? We develop many of our beliefs, including health beliefs before the age of 8. What if our kids made healthy choices because they understood the positive impact of those choices? No need for government intervention or stressful parenting around food choices!

06.01.2022 Our thoughts good and bad have an impact beyond the reach most of us could ever imagine. A key message in this is that every cell in your body is eavesdropping on the internal (and external) dialogue. Using language that builds good internal language and self esteem in kids is a key ingredient for good physical and mental health. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAbQUO9x_8g

04.01.2022 Children are the largest consumer for electronic devices and there is a strong relationship between bed time use of such devices with three key aspects effecting the children being sleep quality & sleep quantity. The research found "Using any device at bedtime was associated with a statically significant increased use of multiple forms of technology at bedtime and use in the middle of the night, reducing sleep quantity and quality - a study conducted with Parents of 234 children, ages 8 to 17 years". So the best thing as Health Ninjas we can do is reduce our screen time throughout the day especially before bed and choose to read a book instead.

02.01.2022 Get some morning sunlight because Healthy Kids Transform the World! Understanding what can influence the circadian rhythm can help get students ready to learn. Devices such as TVs, tablets, laptops and smart-phone all emit blue/white light. This blue/white light suppresses melatonin which is a hormone essential for feeling sleepy. We want melatonin to be active a night but not during the day. Exposure to sunlight for at least 15 minutes at the same time every day, particularly in the morning hours, helps your body shut off melatonin.

01.01.2022 Nearly half of children aged between 5 and 15 years spend more than 2 hours every day on small screen entertainment - That's a scary statistic so even tho it can be super fun and you can even learn it can have serious ramifications on a young body. So what can we do my Health Ninjas we can: - Work out a TV viewing schedule with your Mum, Dad or carer that strikes the right balance between screen time and active time each day. - If your favourite TV shows are on during the... day, set the recorder and watch them later. - Think of presents for your birthday and Christmas that help get you active balls, bats, totem tennis, hoola hoop, frisbee, kite, skipping rope or a trampoline!
