25.01.2022 Excited to be part of the Cross Pollinate 2020 fun!
23.01.2022 As part of our upcoming Hansei@Curringa we will be spending some time learning about and participating in fermentation @fermentasmania . Why fermentation? Well, aside from the physical and mental benefits which have been proven to be associated with a variety of fermented food and drink (don't forget alcohol is a form of fermentation , as is cheese, and so many of our favourite foods) there is also a beautiful metaphor between ferment and habit change. Say whaaat?!! Ye...s....both require patience and time; they require the right cue or trigger to occur; they are often invisible and automatic, and so it goes on. In the words of Sandor Katz, the guru of fermentation, "metaphorical fermentation is an infinite source of mutation, transformation, and regeneration" much like the neuroscience of habit change. Come join us from 12th to 14th March for a great weekend of fun and exploration Ref: Sandor Katz, "Fermentation as metaphor", 2020
23.01.2022 Why do I get up at 5:15am to jump on a bike and ride up a mountain, or don the shoes to traipse up the trails? This is why. Alongside these beautiful scenes come incredible feelings of peace, calm, and a sense of accomplishment. The results are reinforced by the hit of dopamine I get from celebrating this. In turn, the dopamine is the urge which will get me out of bed again and again. This is why it is so important to celebrate these achievements in whatever way speaks to ...you and do it very soon afterward or during. Dopamine release will occur with just the thought or visualisation of the action next time as your mind and body says "yeah, I know that feeling and I want more of it" Your celebration or reward may be something as simple as a pat on the back and a "yay you". It may be in the form of a photo. It may be one word in a journal, it may be a satisfied grin. Whatever it is ensure the dopamine hits the spot and your habit loop will be complete. Share with me your dopamine hit See more
23.01.2022 Be quick! Tickets are now available. Grab a friend and join us for some fun, adventure, and lots of learning and discovery. Roll on March!!
22.01.2022 Be an opportunist! Look for opportunities to add movement to your day. Picking my son up from the airport today provided the perfect opportunity to ride a route I haven't been on for awhile. Gorgeous day for it and very happy to see my boy Have a beautiful Easter. I hope you are able to spend it with those you love.
22.01.2022 It might say 2deg "feels like -2" but it doesn't stop it being incredibly beautiful. Soul soothing sanity run this morning Seek out the things that make you feel good, give you energy, restore you, and serve your goals. That goal might be just to get through the day, or it may be to climb a mountain. It's all relative to you, your needs, and your circumstances. If you are struggling to find exactly what that is, message me for a chat. I'd love to help you
21.01.2022 Big shout out to @sophiemurfittphotography . No mean feat getting the farmer to relax in front of a camera! So many great shots for an update to my website (stay tuned) and some keepers for the photo wall as well
20.01.2022 Life is good! @ Kunanyi
19.01.2022 How did you go answering your question to yourself "when I am at my best I....." ? (see yesterday's post) Another way to look at this is "what is it that I do, or can do, that leaves me feeling energised, authentic, and functioning optimally?" Or "what are my strengths?" This exercise was designed to give you the opportunity to identify one simple focus for you to be the best version of you in 2021 and beyond. I identified that when I do my daily strength and mobility exer...cises I feel great, in body and mind, and I able to function so much better throughout the day. This is my focus, and this is the habit I will create and maintain. Join me as I show you how I will do this and what steps I need to take to ensure it sticks. Share with us your focus and what you would like to do to create the habit that serves you. My first step is to decide exactly what I will do, how long I will spend doing it and when I will do it. I will start off very small and manageable and then I will review it and perhaps increase, or perhaps change the time, depending on how it's going. The most common reason that these plans fail is because we tend to overestimate our commitment, our capability, or our motivation. Keep it small!!!! The second step is to find a cue that is consistent and reliable to trigger the action. Once I have decided on the cue, I will attach the action to this. Again this may need review. So here we go: When I have my morning cup of tea, I will do 10mins strength and mobility every day Now it's your turn. Go
18.01.2022 Week 2 of our Habit Change sharing Back to one of my favourite self care habits this weekend as I tested my trail running fitness again on our local Mountain, following a bout of injury. It's amazing how a habit can resume when the right conditions are present. Did you realise that a habitual action can be daily, weekly, monthly, or even annually. It just needs to be consistent and be triggered or cued. What this means is that you can have a habit which, for whatever r...eason, slips away but when the appropriate cues become present again we can pick up where we left off. Now of course, this applies to both favourable and not so favourable habits so this is where we can look at habit change to either avoid or reprogramme the cues. Awareness is your friend here. Really hone in on the situations which are cueing you. These could be time, location, emotion, or a preceding event. This takes practice and mindfulness to be present in the moment. How's your new or changed habit progressing? I'm loving my little strength routine with my morning cuppa. Simple, achievable, not too onerous, and the results are playing out in my ability to get back on the trails again. Cue, routine, reward right there - the crux of a habit. See more
18.01.2022 World Health Day How are you caring for your health today? Good health means different things to different people. In some areas around the world it may mean having access to clean water and nutritious food. Here in my little corner of the world, I am blessed with that and so much more, yet there are people around me who still struggle to maintain their health for function, happiness, and productivity. Take time today to do one simple thing to care for your health today. Mine was a run this morning on one of my favourite trails with my energetic dog. Happy World Health Day
18.01.2022 My heart sings when I receive texts like these! This beautiful lady has come so far in just 4 months. She has not only improved her health, but found the courage to change her employment and improve her overall well-being. Empowerment I have a limited number of places available if you are ready to take control of your health and well-being. Message me for details.
18.01.2022 This week has been a challenging one for our family. My husband had a car accident that landed him in hospital requiring intensive surgery. He's fine. He's alive. No one else was injured. We are very lucky. What it has highlighted to me, yet again, is how important my healthy habits are to me to maintain my equilibrium and increase my resilience. I have been undertaking a course in the Neuroscience of Habit Change through the @habitchangeinstitute over the past 8 weeks.... When you have an understanding of why you act in certain ways and what drives you, it becomes so much easier to control your responses to situations. I will be a Senior Certified Habit Change Practitioner who can help you to take control of what life throws at you....and I am very excited! These photos are my reward for my early morning run habit which sets me up to feel positive about the day and weeks ahead. Enjoy @ HealthSeek See more

16.01.2022 Feeling very blessed to have the opportunity to spend time with my farmer on the beautiful Maria Island. She turned it on for us today and treated us to perfect weather, whales, fascinating history, and great bike tracks. It's been 10 weeks since the farmer left hospital after a 6 week stint recovering from a car accident. His commitment to keep fit and healthy has served us well in his ability to bounce back and enable us to enjoy this time together. Never underestimate the benefits of keeping fit!
15.01.2022 I finished up some work with a client today and she said thank you for being the voice of reason to help her find a way forward to create habits to improve her health and wellbeing. My response was "if I did my work properly, I will have given you the voice" What does this mean? As a coach it's my job to give you a voice to express your knowledge and expertise on yourself. I'm here to assist you to strengthen the neural pathways on the beneficial aspects of your life so that you can grow stronger. Simple as that. Love my work
15.01.2022 Habits. How do they happen? Repetition and consistency. Cue, habit, reward. Wednesday mornings are all about running my favourite close to home trail. That is my habit, and these photos give you an idea of the reward I receive. What does your Wednesday morning habit look like and what is your reward? Very excited to be commencing a course on the most current research into the Neuroscience of Habits very soon. Look out everyone!!! Am I going to have some great stuff to share with you!
13.01.2022 Slowly chipping away at the goal aiming to ride 200km by September. It was a stunning day in Tassie today and my ride took me out in to the countryside. Such a great feeling to get out into the country and out of Hobart. Lots of time for thinking and reflection. This past week I have heard of four people affected by Pancreatic Cancer. People whose lives have been turned upside down. My goal to ride 200km is multipronged. Not only do I love a challenge and the chance to push m...yself, September marks two years since my Mother passed away from Pancreatic Cancer. I do this also to honour her and all she fought for to give us more time with her. This disease is insidious and is not going away. Please be aware. Get yourself checked and if you are able, donate to the Pancare Foundation.Every little bit counts. @ Bushy Park, Tasmania, Australia See more
12.01.2022 Cue Action Reward Some days you may find it hard to get up and get moving. Visualisation can play a big part in motivating ourselves towards an action. A bank of beautiful photos helps keep these images front of mind. Visualise yourself in an action, see the environment around you, smell the air, feel the movement, relish the reward. Enjoy! @ Hobart, Tasmania
12.01.2022 So much learning right now! Absolutely loving engaging in the Habit Change Practitioner Course with DrGina Cleo. Her beautiful eloquence when it comes to explaining the concepts behind the Neuroscience of Habit Change has us hanging on her every word. I can feel those neurons firing!! We were also introduced to the work of Dr Sarah McKay who has some wonderful, simple, and effective frameworks to help us understand that we can rewire our brains to become the best version of ourselves. I feel very privileged to be learning this material. Thank you to all you incredible Neuroscientists and Researchers who bring this knowledge to us!
11.01.2022 A great session with the team @flexhealththerapy discussing all things Habit Change. Really enjoyed sharing ways to improve client outcomes by focusing on the small steps and understanding the challenges they face. Always a pleasure to work with other health professionals with the same goal of helping others.
11.01.2022 Shinrin-yoku (literally "take the atmosphere of the forest") is a Japanese phrase developed as a National public health program in 1982 to encourage being in nature. Numerous studies have found that "nature is not only nice to have, but it's a have-to-have for physical and cognitive function" (Richard Louv). Benefits include : lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels; reduced nervous system arousal, enhanced immune system function; increased self esteem: reduced anxiet...y, and improved mood. In a study through the University of Exeter involving 20,000 people, found that a minimum of 2 hours a week increased likelihood of good health and psychological well-being, and cut across occupations, ethnic groups, socio economic status, chronic illness, and disability. I am again so very grateful to have these experiences accessible so close to my home. How can you aim to get your 2hrs+ of Shinrin-yoku this week? See more
11.01.2022 Meditation comes in many forms. Whatever allows you to be in the present moment and gives you a sense of calm and gratitude is your meditation. A run with my beautiful dog was mine this morning. How about you? @ HealthSeek
09.01.2022 Very excited about the upcoming @sprouttas conference #crosspollinate2020 and sharing my ideas on habit change for productivity and sustainability with special focus on our agricultural community. A topic dear to my heart. @springbaymill
08.01.2022 Next step in our habit change or formation sequence is to record it. Hold yourself accountable. This can be in any way you like just as long as you can look back and see what you have achieved, or where there may be some gaps. Often when we begin a new behaviour (yes, there's a difference between a behaviour and a habit and we'll explain that later), we start off all gung-ho and then fall in a heap (yes, there are genuine reasons for this as well). It is useful to look at your accountability recorder to see what may have gone wrong. On the other side of the story we tend to remember our failures and overlook the 80% of the time we achieved. This can serve as a reminder that, you know what, you're doing alright! I'd love to hear about what you are doing
07.01.2022 Habit change skills can be applied to all areas of life...health, wellness, business, productivity, sustainability, relationships, and more. My involvement in this course has provided so much practical information and incredible resources and is supported by high quality evidence based research, under the guidance of Dr. Gina Cleo, Habit Change expert and Director of the Habit Change Institute. I am very excited to be in a position to empower you to harness your habits. Now more than ever, when the challenges keep coming in this uncertain world, is when we need our habits to serve us, not sabotage us. Message me for more details.
06.01.2022 Welcome to Active April. Can you commit to a month of being more active, starting today? My 6am morning beach walk in 21deg heat was how I started Active April. The benefits of moving daily and especially in Nature is something I bang on about constantly I know but seriously folks the energy and focus for the rest of your day is too good to miss! If you're not already doing something active each day, start slowly. It only needs to be 5-10 minutes, a stretch, a strengthen, a little walk. Whatever it is, get the ball rolling and watch the momentum grow......
05.01.2022 What a beautiful world I am privileged to live in. Time spent on farm and time spent on the Coast gives me food for the soul. This year has presented many challenges which have at times depleted my energy and my will. I'm always guaranteed rejuvenation by surrounding myself with beautiful people and beautiful places. A recent reflection made me again appreciate the time I had spent keeping my body and mind fit. This also applies to my husband who suffered a nasty injury fo...llowing a car accident. The medics remarked regularly on his strength and fitness and, despite challenges, how this enabled a still slow but positive recovery. He is a farmer and used to being thrown curve balls. He knows that they will keep coming. That's life. It's how you respond. Whilst you hear a lot about staying fit and healthy to avoid illness, there's as great a reason to stay fit and healthy to have the strength to whack those curve balls out of the park!! See more
05.01.2022 When I work with my clients I am continually inspired by all they achieve and its transference to so many aspects of their life. If you are curious about these changes and how I can work with you to develop productive and empowering habits for long-term well-being, get in touch now for a chat. I have available a limited number of places at a reduced cost. Be the change you want to be. "If you always do what you have always done, you'll always get what you have always got" Henry Ford
04.01.2022 Curious to know what's beyond? Some exciting plans ahead to share this and many more wonderful experiences with you!
02.01.2022 Time to reflect on all that has been and all that is ahead, and what a spot to do it! We have some exciting plans to share all things habits, health, breathing, nutrition, fermentation, and lots of fun physical activities....and that's just a little bit of it! Stay tuned
01.01.2022 A day for reflections End of another week and an incredibly still and peaceful morning here in Hobart, Tasmania. An opportunity to stop and reflect on all the beauty around us and how lucky we are to have this to bring us back to what is important. Keep it simple, don't overthink things, focus on what you can control, and be kind to yourself and those around you. My heart goes out to all our mates in Victoria and send lots of love and hugs. @ Hobart, Tasmania
01.01.2022 Another weekend finishing well with a beautiful long run with mates followed by some brilliant reads on Habit change. Can't get enough of this stuff and so looking forward to sharing it with you all. You know, it really doesn't need to be that hard. Today's read takes me into the area of sustaining sustainability in relation to environmental policy. A big thanks to the generous and supportive @drginacleo for sharing her finds. @ Taroona, Tasmania, Australia
