22.01.2022 Is your home or workplace exposing you to formaldehyde? Dr Dingle was once asked to investigate why people on the fourth floor of an office building were feeling sick. All the occupants on that floor had symptoms ranging from mild irritation to headache and nausea. The cause was the new office furniture, which was emitting formaldehyde from both the wood and the fresh polish and lacquer. Many indoor furnishings contain formaldehyde, particularly items containing pressed wood.... The US and Europe have national standards for formaldehyde release from pressed wood products, Australia and New Zealand have only voluntary industry guidelines. Always leave new furniture in the sun to off-gas before installing and when in doubt, open a window!

19.01.2022 Chemicals and Kids Many chemicals (on supermarket shelves) are known to be toxic and few of them are extensively studied before they are put on the shelf. Certain assumptions are made in the process of allowing these products to be generally available. One of these assumptions is that kids are simply smaller versions of adults. Scientific and medical studies show that this is not the case and that children are much more vulnerable than adults to chemical toxins and environmen...tal pollutants. The US EPA reported that children two years and younger might be 10 times more vulnerable than adults to certain chemicals. This means that in some cases, chemicals to which kids are exposed in the home are up to 10 times too high in concentration. 16.01.2022 Did you know there are a variety of chemicals likely to be present in your clothing and bedding? The vast majority of conventional laundry products contain artificial fragrances, enzymes and dyes which may cause skin reactions. Apart from using brands that do not contain these irritants you should also put clothes and bedding through an additional rinse cycle when you wash them. 12.01.2022 Have you sprayed an air freshener recently? Perhaps you've seen that ad with the people and other 'smells' emerging from the sofa when the product is sprayed onto it? It seems very reassuring to think that "99% of germs" are being targeted and their air will smell 'fresher'. However the scientific truth is "99% of germs" usually only accounts for one or two simple bacteria, when there are countless species. More importantly though, Dr Dingle tells us what air fresheners are ...really doing - to your body every time you spray them. Air fresheners are perhaps the most insidious of the indoor air pollutants. This is because the chemicals are purposefully released into a confined indoor environment. Their release under pressure creates microscopic particles that can fill a room in seconds. These small aerolised particles are readily inhaled deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream. Air fresheners may include formaldehyde, ethanol, phenol, naphthalene, cresol and xylene. Toxic effects include nerve deadening, which affects ability to smell by coating the nasal passages with an undetectable oil film. Aerosols themselves can result in heart problems as well as in problems in virtually all of the body’s other organs. http://www.bestcarpetcleaning.net.au/dr-peter-dingle

03.01.2022 Dr Peter Dingle tells us there are four basic measures you can take to reduce indoor particulates in your home. (air borne particles) 1 Reduce the intake of particulates in your home 2 Reducing the emission of particulates from sources within the home... 3 Diluting airborne particulates with adequate ventilation 4 Removing particulates from indoor air Did you know that the particulate presence in a carpeted room is typically half that of a non-carpeted room? If you suffer from asthma, removing the carpet from your home is one of the worst things you can do, yet it is often advised by many conventional health channels. Ask your Healthy Breathing Centre contact for a copy of the German Allergy and Asthma Society study which debunked this myth
