24.01.2022 Happy Sunday One of my clients, a 7 day per week practice in rural Victoria had a catastrophic system failure sometime overnight. Calls me at 9:45 am Victorian ...time. Together we diagnose the problem (a fried Network hub) and rig a temporary solution to get phones and some computers working all via FaceTime. All sorted and tested by 11:00 am Victorian time. Replacement hub if not available at the local Officeworks store today, will be available tomorrow. That's their first outage in the 5 years since I installed their server..

21.01.2022 ACCC releases report detailing that scams cost Australians half a billion dollars in 2018. Business losses are reported at $60 Million, a 170% increase over 2017. https://www.accc.gov.au//targeting-scams-report-of-the-acc ACCC resource for picking scams here >> https://www.accc.gov.au//Little%20Black%20Book%20of%20Scam
15.01.2022 HealthNet / Practice Managers Network Australian Made Hand Sanitiser project We have now opened up our hand sanitiser orders to everyone: any essential worker, ...any vulnerable person, any organisation, and YOU. Please share this so that access to Australian made, TGA formulation (suitable for clinical use) Hand Sanitiser is available to all who need it. Our hand sanitiser has been supplied to over 5,000 health and front line services Australia Wide, in the last month. Our hand sanitiser is designed to kill this damn virus. Most hand sanitiser currently being flown into Australia doesn't meet the requirements set by the TGA, may not kill this virus, and therefore isn't suitable for use in clinical environments. Anyone can now order our TGA formulation hand sanitiser direct from WaterTest Systems. Our price includes shipping to anywhere in Australia. We have 5L and 20L packs available (And 1000 L IBCs for industry) We can't currently source smaller bottles and pumps, because (you guessed it) these smaller pump bottles aren't made in Australia. https://www.watertestsystems.com.au/hand-sanitiser/ Stay safe. Lets win this COVID-19 war.

09.01.2022 I'm doing some bookkeeping work, and I'm wondering why large international corporations don't follow GST rules. If a client buys from Amazon, the invoices are in USD$, and their is GST raised, but on a different day than the conversion to AUD$, so it is always out a few cents. At least Amazon charges GST.... Facebook, Google and UBER seem not care to their invoices are in USD$ and there is no GST. Presumably they don't submit BAS statements, or collate any detail to pay tax for transactions in Australia. I'm hard pressed to see how a Facebook or Google ads campaign that targets a geographical area in Australia can be an overseas transaction. Also, how is an Uber transport or Uber Eats delivery anywhere but wholly within Australia. I have an ALDI receipt today for some lunch room bickies, and the total of the items doesn't match the amount charged to credit card, presumably there is credit card fee - but why isn't that listed on the receipt. There is no mention of the word 'Tax Invoice', just 'Invoice' which doesn't meet the requirements set by the ATO. Also there is no amount of GST shown on the invoice, and at least some items purchased are GST Free (milk!). Not only do these companies seemingly not care about Australian Tax law, they have no contact details on invoices (when you get invoices - really hard to get Facebook or Google adwords invoices), so you can't contact them and ask for complying Tax Invoices. I contact and obtain valid Tax Invoices form dry cleaners, parking garages, restaurants etc - but I can't do this with these multi-nationals, because I can't contact them except via email at best, and they are just ignored. https://www.ato.gov.au/Business/GST/Issuing-tax-invoices/

03.01.2022 Some worldwide COVID-19 facts - as at today 19 June 2020 Number of confirmed cases nearly 8.5 million people Number of deaths over 450 000 Largest single day for new case was YESTERDAY with some 175000 new confirmed cases... Australia may be sitting pretty at the moment, but the rest of the world is still in trouble Data from John Hopkins University https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com//opsdashboa/index.html
