19.01.2022 It's National Road Safety Week The week highlights the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it. Every year, approximately 1200 people are killed and another 44,000* are seriously injured on Australian roads. Traffic injury is the biggest killer of Australian children under 15 and the second-biggest killer of all Australians aged between 15 and 24. These numbers are growing every year but are preventable if we choose to Drive So Others Survive!... Healthy Cities Illawarra continues to advocate for safer roads and active transport across our region.

Di's leadership on a project which created 16 videos in different languages about Drug and Alcohol support services, designed to be used all over the state, has cleaned up with well deserved awards recently! 1. 13.01.2022 Join us in Lang Park on Sunday 29 November from 10am 12noon to learn some new tips and tricks for bike riding around the City of Wollongong. The pop-up cycling event is free, simply BYO bike and helmet! Families are welcome, and children are asked to be accompanied by an adult. There will be a display of retro, vintage, all-abilities, odd and high-tech bicycles. Attendees will also be able to meet local cycling champions, ride a mini obstacle course, get coaching and... safety tips, power a light globe by cycling and more. City of Wollongong is hosting this event in partnership with Ride Nation, Transport NSW, Cycling Tours NSW, and Illawarra Academy of Sport.

13.01.2022 Mobile Knitting Classroom Project A popular intergenerational collaboration, the Mobile Knitting Classroom project engaged senior participants to facilitate knitting ‘life skills’ to a younger generation. By 2011, senior volunteers conducted workshops with over 100 children aged 9-11 in a school setting. The project was thoroughly enjoyed by all and helped build a positive image of ageing. An average of 10% of children had knitted prior to the workshops and ...by conclusion of the program, 100% of children could completely knit!
