23.01.2022 Do you have a favourite quote, intention, or affirmation? If not, here is an example of a great affirmation to read out loud to yourself daily... I will master THIS DAY to the best of my abilities. If things dont go as planned my day is not ruined. I can ALWAYS turn things around with a grateful attitude.... As you can see an affirmation is a positive statement that can help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. When you repeat them often, and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes to your life. You might consider affirmations to be unrealistic "wishful thinking." But try looking at positive affirmations this way: many of us do repetitive exercises to improve our physical health, and affirmations are like exercises for our mind and outlook. These positive mental repetitions can reprogram our thinking patterns so that, over time, we begin to think and act differently. For example, evidence suggests that affirmations can help you to perform better at work. According to researchers, spending just a few minutes thinking about your best qualities before a high-pressure meeting a performance review, for example can calm your nerves, increase your confidence, and improve your chances of a successful outcome. Self-affirmation may also help to mitigate the effects of stress. In one study, a short affirmation exercise boosted the problem-solving abilities of "chronically stressed" subjects to the same level as those with low stress. Whats more, affirmations have been used to successfully treat people with low self-esteem, depression, and other mental health conditions. And they have been shown to stimulate the areas in our brains that make us more likely to effect positive changes in regard to our health. Self-worth and body confidence affects almost everyone at some point in their lives including me! Heres the thing about it just as keeping your body strong and healthy requires your energy and attention, so does confidence and mindset! You have to feed your mind positive thoughts, and setting intentions / using affirmations are a fast and easy way to do that. I love this one because although I tell myself I will do my best, I also give myself grace when it doesnt turn out the way I want to. It has definitely been an interesting year (to say the least!), and I lean back on simple strategies like this to keep my mind in the right place and to stay MOTIVATED / BRAVE / POSITIVE / FOCUSED / INSPIRED. 21.01.2022 I am always reading that we should stop comparing ourselves to others (this is particularly true for you ladies out there - youre beautiful and dont let anyone tell you otherwise!) I recommend that you stop thinking that the bodies you see in magazines are what you should be trying to achieve. This is another part of changing your attitude, and the click going off in your head.... Concentrate on YOU, and no one else. Learn to appreciate your best bits and forget your small stature/lack of long legs/round face shape. Aim instead to get fit and healthy so you improve your posture and stand tall; get strong, shapely legs no matter what their length; optimise your circulation to improve your skin and make it glow. Optimise the things you like, improve the things you dont. Youre beautiful and dont let any tell you otherwise!

17.01.2022 There is beauty in struggle. Theres something about being knocked down and not being able to figure it out immediately. Its almost as if youre proving youre worthy of its possession. Whatever it is for you.... Well never progress or make it far until we get familiar and comfortable with our bums being on the ground. That doesnt mean accepting defeat but it means getting to a point where disappointment rolls off our shoulder. Even if you dont believe that everything happens for a reason, Im positive we can all agree that there is a lesson in every loss. In every setback, theres something to be gathered in order to get back on the horse to try again. We, too, can be like the one percent. All it takes is not letting our shortcomings determine our future, and thats up to nobody but us. Instead of being shocked, dismayed and depressed from the losses we take in life, what if we took it as a sign to take action instead? There will never be a time where you get it right at all times. Even your heroes still find themselves struggling, occasionally finding themselves on the ground. Because we will always fail for the rest of our lives until we leave this earth, why not become immune to your imperfections? In fact, the first step to a comeback is not letting the initial blow rock your world. The beauty at the bottom is the opportunity that lies there as well. Not only is it a reminder that were human and that were not impervious to mistakes, but it allows us to strip ourselves down and get back to the basics to remind ourselves that it wasnt solely us that got us to where we are in the first place. This seemingly simple experiment, originally conducted by researchers in the 60s, involves placing a marshmallow in front of a child and giving them the option to eat that single marshmallow immediately or to wait to eat it and, in return, receive a second marshmallow. The results are comical but they also reveal an interesting aspect of human nature. ... We dont like to wait for things. Sometimes, it feels torturous having our patience tested. Whether its a marshmallow sitting in front of us begging to be eaten or a video that just wont buffer, we lose our patience when we arent granted the instant gratification we desire. Our world is now filled with technology that caters to and sustains that desire. From high speed internet on our computers to unlimited data plans on our cell phones, technological advances have lessened our need for patience, and therefore, decreased our ability to withstand waiting. We expect immediacy, because we are used to it. And its the same when it comes to our health. ANSWER: It depends Cardio burns more calories per session - If you weigh 73 kg, you will burn about 250 calories per 30 minutes of jogging at a moderate pace Whereas if you performed a resistance-based workout for the same amount of time, you might only burn around 130220 calories. However, resistance training helps you burn more calories every day! Resistance training is more effective than cardio at building muscle, and muscle burns more calories at rest than some other tissues, including fat. Because of this, it is commonly said that building muscle is the key to increasing your resting metabolism that is, how many calories you burn at rest.

14.01.2022 Super cool NEW research shows just how important the bacteria in your gut is for your health ... and also for preventing and treating disease in the future! Its not just the bacteria that matters, but also the genes they contain. Interesting fact: your gut microbiome has 200 times more genes than your entire body!... We all know broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower are good for you, right? They contain vitamins, minerals, and fiber. But they also contain chemicals called glucosinolates. Theres actually a bacteria in your gut called Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron that can transform those chemicals into compounds called isothiocyanates, which have protective effects against certain cancers. 14.01.2022 I love this quote... Difficult Roads Often Lead to Beautiful Destinations. Now, I know that this is probably the last thing on your mind as we still battle the lingering Covid-19 Pandemic.... 2020 has been a strange year so far. But I draw strength from the fact that Im not alone. Personally this has been a tough time but like any challenging time in life, if you take time to reflect and are truthful with yourself, youd have to admit that, more often than not, when you do come through the storm and land on the other side, its usually never as bad as you thought or expected it to be. And if in those times when it is truly a miserable experience, you can count yourself lucky to have survived. The truth is that many times in life, the difficult road you find yourself traveling today, with all its frustration and pain and agony, will, in time, lead to a beautiful destination. We all go through hard times, and when my friends and clients tell me their woes in life, I am reminded of the quote I read years ago "Falling down is an accident; staying down is a choice." I love that thought because we all know that, sometimes, staying down is a whole lot easier than getting back up to fight another day. But we also know that staring at the floor isnt going to get you very far in this lifeso your responsibility is to get up and get going. No matter what is going on in your life, trust me when I ask that you let the issue, whatever it is, run its course and then make a decision based on what youve learned. And be aware that, no matter what happens in the end, it will be alright, because no matter what road you choose, all difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. Let me leave you with this thought: "Friend, be strong, because things will get better. 12.01.2022 Why You Need to Stop Looking for a Quick Fix. These days we are short on time and look for quick fixes - all designed to make life easier. When it comes to our health, those quick fixes might be things like a juice cleanse, supplements, diet pills or the latest celebrity diet that is completely unsustainable. ... But quick fixes are just that - quick and temporary. Sure you might drop a few kilos and feel great but are you going to be able to sustain these habits in the long run? Probably not. So here is the cold hard truth: There is no such thing as a quick fix. There is no special pill, no special diet, and no special workout DVD that is going to do it for you. If you dont have healthy habits, nothing else matters. In order to look and feel your best, you need to make healthy choices day in and day out, time and time again. Does this mean you can never have pizza and fries ever again? Nope. It means you find a way to balance the good with the not-so-good so that you can live your best life. And whats the alternative to not developing healthy habits? Go through life thinking about making changes but not following through, all the while feeling mediocre? 10.01.2022 toilet rolls HAHAHA! Anyway, now the dust has settled on that one, let me use a roll of toilet paper in an analogy for your weight loss ... I just read it and I think it really helps to put things into perspective. Imagine you've got a roll of toilet paper. You tear off a few sheets everyday. At first, the roll doesn't look any smaller even though you KNOW you're chipping away at it, sheet after sheet after sheet. But eventually, when you've torn off enough sheets, you can tell that the roll looks visually much smaller than what you started with. Fat loss works in much the same way. Maybe the body fat IS coming off, but you're feeling discouraged because you think you still look the same. It can be difficult for your visual progress to manifest itself at first, but it doesn't mean that nothing is happening. Rather than getting frustrated, focus on staying on your diet and staying diligent with your training sessions. Rely on the "eye test," the change in your body circumference measurements and the fit of your clothes, and try to be as objective as possible. If you stick to your diet and your workout schedule then trust that good things are happening on the body composition front. The visual progress will show in time. But the sad thing is, many of us only do a fraction of what is possible because of our thinking, our planning, and the obstacles that throw us off course. Lets look to change that so that you can accomplish any goal you wish to strive for.... Here are the exact steps to take. Use them for any goal you want to achieve this month: 1 Pick your goal Make it something that will require you to do and is achievable in a defined time frame e.g. the next 30 days. Push yourself. Be sure its concrete and measurable. 2 Write out every single thing you need to do to get to your goal. Make a list of everything that you must do in order to get to your goal. Youre planning what needs to be done, in detail, ahead of time. This then becomes your road map to follow. 3 Write out all of the obstacles that could block you from your goal When you are chasing anything worthwhile, there are always going to be obstacles to overcome. Consider every possible obstacle that could keep you from reaching your goal this month. 4 Come up with a strategy for each obstacle Decide on an actionable strategy you will take to combat each obstacle. When the obstacle arises, youll be ready, knowing exactly the action you need to take to overcome it. 5 Plug your To-Do list into your calendar and commit to it no matter what. Dont skip this step! Plug all of your action items into your calendar for the entire month. By plugging each action you need to take into your calendar, you relieve so much pressure from yourself. You now have a clear, actionable road map to follow, with the precise tasks you need to complete each day. Youve considered the obstacles that will arise on your way to achieving your goal, and have calculated strategies to overcome each of them. Its all plugged into your calendar, and just needs to be followed. Its as good as done

Now, this may seem like common sense, but you would be surprised by how many people only eat once a day. This may balance your blood sugar levels, and keep your metabolism elevated throughout the day. Try Not to Skip Meals Skipping meals is not in your best interest. Not only does it slow your metabolism, but it may also make you hungrier later on. And this may lead to binge eating, which leads to too many calories consumed. If you want to have the best results, try not to skip meals during the day. Drink More Water Did you know those hunger feelings you may be experiencing are actually dehydration in disguise? Its true. Before you eat something, try drinking a tall glass of water. Water not only hydrates your body, and makes things work more efficiently, its also an easy way to control your appetite, and fill up your stomach to prevent overeating. Avoiding foods that are heavily processed and refined will help you get closer to any goal you have. When you can, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean (wild-caught or free-range) protein sources, easily digestible carbs, and plenty of fibre-rich foods. Dieting is a crucial aspect of a well-rounded plan. Without the proper diet, you may not see the results youre after, or it may take a lot longer to accomplish those goals.
