25.01.2022 This is a fabulous short documentary following Shreen, a body positive and non-diet personal trainer. I dont know Shreen personally but have been following her on social media for a while and absolutely love her philosophy! Please check it out
24.01.2022 do you have thoughts like the ones on the left hand side? do they pop up often? try challenging thoughts like these by reframing them into new thoughts, like the ones on the right hand side. do it whenever you notice one of these thoughts popping up, and see if it makes a difference to how you think and feel about yourself and food.
24.01.2022 can you believe next week is summer and christmas is only 4 weeks away? it can be a scary time for many of us with messages popping up everywhere about ‘bikini bodies’, ‘summer bodies’, detoxes and cleanses. there’s also endless chatter about overindulging during the holidays, how ‘sinful’ food is and new years diets. not to mention the increased stress and loneliness that many people experience at this time of year, anxiety about family dinners, work deadlines, over commit...ting and more. that’s why it’s such an important time of year to reach out for extra support in regards to food, your relationship with food and your body. i want you to be able to enjoy yourself and your life, especially at this time of year! here are just some of the things i can help you with during our sessions together navigating diet talk and mixed messaging (that’s especially so strong during the holidays!) addressing chronic dieting, emotional eating, binge eating and restrictive eating addressing anxiety and stress, which often go hand in hand with these things supporting other health issues - including digestive issues, hormonal concerns and fatigue finding a way of eating that actually works for YOU ultimately cultivating a joyful and easeful relationship with food and your body to book a free 15 minute session or full appointment, head here https://www.halaxy.com//nina-ki/nutritionist/492441/458211
23.01.2022 we can get so caught up in trying to be ‘healthy’, and the pressure often intensifies during the festive season with increased food and drinking events, talk about how ‘sinful’ food is, and new years diets. here's a radical idea! instead of thinking about how to be healthy in terms of only eating ‘good food’ or following a diet, why not think about it more holistically and explore what would actually make you feel happy and nourished? here are a few ideas to get you started
23.01.2022 new recipe - cacao coconut crunch two ingredients. one step. endless deliciousness. whip up this recipe in a heartbeat, then enjoy it with numerous things on your morning smoothie, atop toast with nut butter, sprinkled on a hot cacao, mixed with yoghurt and muesli, added to baked goods, on chia puddingthe list goes on! recipe link in bio, enjoy!
23.01.2022 this picture captures a few of my most favourite things - my little doggo Leroy, nature and walks what are some of your favourite things that make you feel happy and grounded? write them out on a list and pick one (or a few) to enjoy today ps get creative with your list and think of aaall sorts of things. we’re all different so our lists will look different but here are just a few ideas - your favourite hot drink from a local cafe, sitting down with a blanket and book, animal accounts on instagram, watching clips of your favourite comedians, bopping about to your favourite music, a warm meal, clean sheets, drawing, knitting, talking to a friend on the phone, burning essential oils, having a foot bath, using a lovely body oil or moisturiser, picking a fresh bunch of flowers, doing a puzzle...the list goes on!
22.01.2022 as you might've seen last week, this month i'm talking about all things mental health. when it comes to mental health and food, we can get so caught up in focusing on what we’re eating, buuut there are so many other aspects to consider. i’m a BIG believer that your relationship with food is just as important (if not more important) than what you actually eat. having a solid relationship with food is absolutely foundational. this includes your thoughts, feelings and behaviour...s around food. if you’re surrounded by fear / anxiety / stress / etc every time you eat, it won’t matter what you’re eating, your mental health will suffer. another important aspect to consider is physiological factors, like your digestive health. here, your body’s ability to digest, absorb, process and metabolise nutrients are really important to think about
21.01.2022 healing is not linear. you can take one step forward and two steps back, you can take leaps and bounds and fall down again...and you know what? its okay. we tend to focus on the end goal - of getting from A to Z without thinking about the in between. but if we made a bee line from A straight to Z, then what? if you skipped all the other letters of the alphabet, youd miss out on their beauty and all that they have to teach you. its in this in between where youre gifted t...he unique experiences and the opportunities to really grow, to learn how to listen to your body, to learn what does and what doesnt work so well for you, to be gentle with yourself when things dont always unfold how you expected. its this in between - the steps backward as well as forward, the highs as well as the lows - that allow healing to truly occur
21.01.2022 I recently sat down with Anthony from me&my wellness to talk about body image and 5 key things you can do to help foster a happier body image. Check it out below!

19.01.2022 do you find that you bargain with yourself around food or create ultimatums? if i eat this pizza then i cant eat the gelato if i have this brownie i can only have salads for the week if i have toast for breakfast then i cant eat bread again for the rest of the day... if i go back for seconds then i have to do an intense cardio session tomorrow i didnt work out today so i should eat less for dinner i ate lots today so ill eat less tomorrow these are common remarks i hear people make, but when we really think about them they dont make much sense at all. who ever said that you arent entitled to both the pizza and the gelato, that you can only have one serve of bread a day, or that you arent worthy of eating more? by becoming aware of these sorts of ultimatums that you give yourself, you can begin to dismantle them. next time you notice that youre bargaining with yourself around food, pause and get curious about whats behind that thought process. perhaps youd like to journal about it, reach out to a loved one or get in contact with a health professional. becoming self aware is an important first step
19.01.2022 Its Body Image and Eating Disorder Awareness Week - a time for us all to spread awareness and open up dialogue about two things that massively impact many peoples lives. Did you know that about 80% of Australian women struggle with body image? And in one survey by the Mental Health Foundation, 13% of UK adults reported suicidal thoughts / feelings in the past year because of body image concerns.... Eating disorders and disordered eating are often largely related to body image concerns (though not always), and are another area hugely impacting many peoples lives. Whether its binge eating disorder, anorexia, orthorexia, bulimia, another eating disorder or disordered eating...many of us are / have been impacted or know someone who has. And these issues dont just impact young females (I.e. who we often think of when we think of these issues). They impact ALL people in all kinds of bodies, of all shapes and sizes, ages, genders, sexual preferences, ethnicities, cultures, etc. Its time that we bring more awareness to these issues and get talking, so please head to the Butterfly Foundation to explore more. https://www.facebook.com/thebutterflyfoundation/posts/3389702844406883

18.01.2022 eating disorders have so many misconceptions surrounding them, like the common (and untrue) stereotype that they mainly only impact young white females. this is an excellent video series by the Butterfly Foundation that explores the notion that anyone of any age, gender, size, shape, ethnicity or background can experience eating and / or body image concerns. AND that every persons experience is different and unique to them. https://butterfly.org.au/get-invol/campaigns/talking-helps/
17.01.2022 recent batch of my super seed biscuits so simple and delicious! recipe for these guys is up on my website, link in bio!
17.01.2022 when you judge your performance around food when you draw an imaginary line in the sand, where okay ends and not okay begings you will inevitably cross that line. and probably lose your shit are you familiar with Isabel Foxen Duke? Shes the wonderful woman who said this and her work around binge eating, emotional eating and the diet world in general is fantastic. her video series below is an awesome introduction to a few key concepts that I bet will give you at lea...st a few aha moments and give you a new way of thinking about food / your struggles with food. would love you to watch them and let me know your thoughts! https://series.stopfightingfood.com
17.01.2022 mung bean sprouts i am loooving adding these little babes on my toast at the moment. theyre like little crunchy earthy pops of deliciousness and are one of those little things in life that are bringing me joy have you tried sprouts before? other types of sprouts include alfalfa, broccoli and lentil. one of my favourite things about them is how easy they are to grow yourself! it might just be me but i get so excited watching them grow over the course of a week or so (iv...e just run out and cant wait for the next lot to be ready ) what food things are you enjoying at the moment?

15.01.2022 a timely reminder for us all before the weekend
14.01.2022 self care...everyones talking about it. the notion seems pretty self explanatory - take care of yourself, right? of course self care is about taking care of yourself (physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually). when trying to translate that notion into real life, however, it can get confusing about how to actually put it into practice. i love the notion of building a self care toolkit. think of it as a metaphorical toolkit full of all sorts of wonderful things that... make you feel happy, calm and nourished. feeling a little unsure of what to put in your toolkit? if you open Instagram or read the latest article, self care seems to be all about running a hot bath and putting on a face mask. for some of us, these sorts of things are indeed forms of self care and thats wonderful! but what if those traditional notions of self care really just dont float your boat? what if these sorts of activities end up just being another thing on your to do list? they end up defeating their purpose. read more about how to reframe self care, build your own self care toolkit, and some less conventional self care ideas in my latest blog post below www.ninakingsfordsmith.com.au/healthyhappen/selfcaretoolkit
14.01.2022 new recipe - cacao coconut crunch! two ingredients, one step, endless deliciousness. whip up this recipe in a heartbeat, then enjoy it with numerous things on your morning smoothie, atop toast with nut butter, sprinkled on a hot cacao, with yoghurt and muesli, mixed into baked goods, on chia puddingthe list goes on! get the recipe here www.ninakingsfordsmith.com.au//sidessna/cacaococonutcrunch

13.01.2022 do you practice self compassion? having compassion for yourself is essentially like having compassion for others. think of how you’d speak and act towards a loved one when they’re having a hard timeand use that as a guide for how to speak and act towards yourself when you’re struggling with something. instead of negative self talk, criticising yourself or beating yourself upself compassion encourages you to be gentle and understanding towards yourself.... here are some practical ways you can practice self compassion speak to yourself how you’d speak to a loved one that you care about remember that imperfection is part of the human experience practice mindfulness by acknowledging whatever you’re going through is difficult try a self compassion meditation Kristin Neff, who’s done extensive work in the field, has some amazing activities for self compassion which you can find here https://self-compassion.org/category/exercises/

10.01.2022 such a great post from @dylanmurphynutrition, i had to share it "There's other people who have struggled with this too?" ... she said to me as I was validate her lifelong battle with diets and weight loss gimmicks. ... Convinced that there was something wrong with her, not enough willpower or self-control, she thought diets succeeded for everyone BUT her And how freeing it was for this client to hear that nope, in fact many (MANY) people have the exact same story Start the diet... honeymoon phase... "cheat" on the diet... "fail' the diet... and the cycle continues What if instead of getting back on the diet hamster wheel this time, you get off altogether!? What would that look like? See more
09.01.2022 it can be so tempting to restrict your eating these holidays and get into the habit of a binge-restrict cyclebut you are always worthy or food and you never ever have to ‘earn’ it. this binge-restrict cycle can be debilitating. as Isabel Foxen Duke says, it’s like a bow and arrow the farther back you pull the bow, the farther the arrow will fly in the other direction as soon as you let it go. you have to let it go eventually, you can’t hold on forever. instead of this constant back and forth, put down the bow and arrow all together and let go of dieting mentality
09.01.2022 SPICED TEMPEH AND ROASTED VEGGIE SALAD This is my favourite salad recipe. I looove it so much and I’ve made it for many friends who’ve loooved it too! It makes tempeh a superstar - an often under loved but darn delicious ingredient! Plus it’s oh so so easy to put together (I tend to roast a big batch of veggies and always have them on hand to add them to meals, like this salad, throughout the week). Enjoy! www.ninakingsfordsmith.com.au/mains/tempehveggiesalad

04.01.2022 Such a great chat with Anna from Haven! The question by the member (below) raised some really important points which I think will be so helpful for other people too, including exploring physical symptoms... emotional hunger building a self care toolkit having an all or nothing mentality "Help on how to best approach this uneasy feeling - Im noticing certain foods (particularly sweet things) dont make me feel very good after I eat them at the moment, but I am still drawn to eating sweets in a regular, normal way. This is conflicting to me, as it seems logical to just stop eating the things that make me feel crappy, yet I dont want to feel restricted if I avoid all sweet things totally. Help!" PS this is the meditation I refer to during the chat http://marcird.com//up/2017/07/What-Are-You-Hungry-For.mp3 https://www.facebook.com/havenwellnessstudio/posts/2450490575259176
04.01.2022 i absolutely love this image! do you take care of yourself regularly? i explore the idea of self care, how to reframe it, and fun new ways to embrace it in my latest blog post here www.ninakingsfordsmith.com.au/healthyhappen/selfcaretoolkit
04.01.2022 just a little reminder for you
03.01.2022 todays cards at the wonderful Haven
03.01.2022 on the blog - supporting yourself through the holidays i find that this time of year can be an overwhelming period for many of us with messages popping up about 'bikini bodies', ‘summer bodies’, detoxes and cleanses. not to mention lots of eating and drinking events paired with endless chatter about overindulging during the holidays, how ‘sinful’ food is and new years diets. instead of letting yourself get swept up in all of this, i want to share four simple tips for summe...r and the holiday season...because you deserve to be able to enjoy yourself and your life, especially at this time of year! http://www.ninakingsfordsmith.com.au//diettalksummerandthe
03.01.2022 come along tomorrow night!
03.01.2022 building your own self care toolkit the notion of self care seems pretty self explanatory - take care of yourself, right? of course self care is about taking care of yourself (physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually). when trying to translate that notion into real life, however, it can get confusing about how to actually put it into practice. i love the idea of building a self care toolkit. think of it as a metaphorical toolkit full of all sorts of wonderful ...things that make you feel happy, calm and nourished. feeling a little unsure of what to put in your toolkit? if you open Instagram or read the latest article, self care seems to be all about running a hot bath and putting on a face mask. for some of us, these sorts of things are indeed forms of self care and thats wonderful! but what if those traditional notions of self care really just dont float your boat? what if these sorts of activities end up just being another thing on your to do list? they end up defeating their purpose. read more about how to reframe self care, build your own self care toolkit, and some less conventional self care ideas in my latest blog. link in bio
03.01.2022 high protein. gluten free. paleo. intermittent fasting. low carb. vegetarian. keto. vegetarian. low fat. vegan. sugar free were so quick to put labels on everything, including the way we eat. it puts us in a box and it doesnt allow for flexibility, changing circumstances or preferences...which are all an inevitable part of life. instead of striving for the perfect diet (or even trying to stick to a certain way of eating), why not tune in to your body and what feels right... for you at that moment in time? forget about what other people are doing, remove diet labels, and listen to what your body is telling you. PS join me Tuesday 18th August at 7pm for a free talk at Haven Wellness in Summer Hill, where well explore and debunk common nutrition myths. bookings are essential and can be made directly via me on social media or 0432 892 012 (or via the Glofox app for Haven members).
