23.01.2022 Fabulous seeing our board member Nicole Williams discussing hip dysplasia with 9 News Adelaide :)

23.01.2022 The often forgotten group living with hip dysplasia are the teenagers. Hayley simply stood up in class one day and her hip dislocated ...this is her story... 2 years dislocation free! Learning about hip dysplasia at the age of 14 (after dislocating my hip) was a challenge. As a result I had to rethink everything I did day to day and ultimately question what the future looked like. I was told to either have surgery now or (a) never run, play sport or dance again and (b) be ...completely bed ridden when I fall pregnant (WAY WAAAAYYYY in the future) which depending on my hip strength is still a possibility. Post surgery, positive attitude, hard work and resilience means today I still have an active lifestyle and a complete love of life. I may need a hip replacement at an early age but until then I’ll enjoy every day to the fullest. Thank you to all the members of this group for helping me stay strong through all the hard times! You are all fighters. Praying for another year with no injuries (First shared October 2019)

21.01.2022 Knowing what to say when someone has the courage to say, "No I'm not ok" is so important. Listen with an open mind, encourage them to take action and don't forget to check in to see how they are going.

20.01.2022 We face the same issue here in Australia, compounding the late diagnosis trend we already faced prior to covid due to lack of awareness and inconsistent surveillance of hips. Early diagnosis is key! Thanks BBC Breakfast & DDH UK for shining the spotlight on hip dysplasia

Fingers crossed we can get back to face-to-face awareness raising some time next year!

15.01.2022 Do you have a way with words, numbers or both? We’d love help pitching for a couple of exciting grants that are currently open. If you or someone you know has a head for writing grant applications, developing the budget, or outcome measures for our big ideas we’d love to hear from you

14.01.2022 Missed hip checks because of Covid is a worry. Hip dysplasia causes premature ageing of the hips and if left untreated can account for almost 50% of total hip replacements in patients under 50. Help us highlight the importance of hip checks at all health appointments a child attends in the first 3 years of life!

08.01.2022 Bath time tips during treatment Bathing isn’t always possible, so here are some tips for giving your baby a sponge bath: keep the room warm... have everything you need ready & at arms reach just use water except for the hands and bottom where mild baby soap can be used focus on the face first- using a cotton ball or edge of a facecloth, dip in warm water and clean from the inner corner of one eye to the outer edge; use a fresh ball or edge of the cloth for each eye wet the whole cloth with warm water and clean the face focusing on the mouth, chin, neck & in/behind the ears where spilt milk and drool can hide for the bottom work from front to back, cleaning in all the creases a warm flannel on the tummy can be very relaxing Until you baby is down crawling and getting grubby on the ground they don’t need a bath everyday. 2-3 times a week is perfectly ok See more

07.01.2022 Swaddling is not something we simply know how to do. Please help us get this resource to parents-to-be, as well as all the parents and caregivers of babies 0-3 months old, as research has linked inappropriate swaddling to hip dysplasia.

06.01.2022 What you need to look out for changes as your baby gets older. 02.01.2022 I just this reminder from Movement Matters. When you’re faced with health issues, be it your own or your child’s, it is okay to just focus on getting through the tough parts and pick up life’s other balls later x Sarah
