22.01.2022 I am mindful that today is Father's Day, a day that can bring with it many meanings and emotions, some bittersweet, and so I wanted to take a moment to wish each of you a peaceful day and to recognise you what ever today might mean for you. For those who may carry your children only in your heart but not in your arms, I hope you are surrounded by gentleness and acknowledgement of you as a Dad, and of your child by those around you on this special day. For those who experienc...e the tearing of the heart today between a baby who has died, and one who now might be with you earthside this father's day, be gentle on yourselves as you experience the mix of emotions. For those who may be on the journey to become a Dad, and struggling with today, I hope that you can find compassion and love by those around you. For those who are grieving the loss of a father or may have a father unwell, my thoughts are with you at this time. To those who may be unable to have contact, due to the barriers at present due to Covid. May you be socially connected even if you can’t be physically connected today. To those Dad's that are out there battling through, on the days when it can feel like hard work and you might feel so alone whether you are a single parent, or in a relationship and juggling work and parenting and feeling overwhelmed, know you are valued and thought of today and there is support available for you. Whatever Father's Day means to you and your family, I hope you are surrounded by those who you love. I wish you a peaceful day mindful for the beauty and challenges that come from being a Dad whilst taking a moment to reflect and remember those who might find today a challenging day. If you are finding today, or any day challenging know there is support out there. You can call Lifeline on 131114 or reach out to us and I can put you in touch with services that might be able to support you through this time. With much kindness to you today, Robyn

21.01.2022 Today, Thursday 10 September is #RUOKDay. This year's message is 'There's more to say after R U OK?'. Learn what to say next at http://ruok.org.au/join-r-u-ok-day so you can have a conversation that could change, or even save, a life, not just today but every day of the year.

10.01.2022 Did you know that 1 in 5 people experience symptoms of mental illness each year? I am one of those people who have learnt to live with anxiety throughout my life, and I am now also privileged over the last 19 years to journey alongside many others who have experienced a range of mental health concerns. But sadly, every day in Australia, 8 people will die from suicide and 60% of people don’t seek out support for a range of reasons for their mental health.... and I would like ...to see if we can do something to change this. Mental illness can be debilitating and can have a devastating impact on not only those living with it, but those around them. So this October, I’m combining both my passion for helping people and using exercise for improving my mental health and I’ll be walking to make a difference in the lives of people touched by mental illness and suicide! I'm fundraising to raise money for life-changing research into treatment and prevention of mental illness, as well as vital support services. It would mean so much to me if you'd support my walk as part of the Black Dog Institute’s one foot forward campaign this October either by making a donation or perhaps even joining my team and raising awareness for this cause too! Let’s together #breakthestigma and #makeadifference for those we know and those living in silent with mental health this October. Thanks, Robyn Come join me at https://www.onefootforward.org.au/join/robynmckinnon

07.01.2022 Today kicks off Mental Health Week here in Tasmania, and as I reflected on what I could write to acknowledge this I realised I had been putting this off all day.. in fact if I am honest, probably for quite a few days now. You see, I like to put a bit of consideration in to all the posts I share with you so they have some purpose and meaning, and I didn’t just want to slap up just anything for something as important as Mental Health Week, but I also realised that this was ...a really vulnerable topic for me too this year. This year more than ever I think Mental Health and Wellbeing has been something most of us been faced with in one way or another no one has been exempt. I think perhaps 2020 has stretched us, and at times I too have felt some awfully dark and lonely moments as I faced some of the most hardest challenges in my mental health journey so far. But thankfully despite the hard times, with the right people around me I was able to find the way through, but we know sadly there are some who are amongst us silently in pain still, or who didn’t make it. So today, I want to acknowledge Mental Health Week, and recognise that one in five Australians will experience mental ill health every year. It is important that we stop and reflect about our mental health and know there is support available, where to access it, and encourage others to reach in as well as reach out, and to not be afraid to share our stories. Perhaps by sharing with others we can break the stigma and encourage and inspire others with hope and also to remember that amongst the challenges we may be facing that we do bring great strengths and gifts to those around us even though we might not see or feel it in our greatest battles. This year’s Mental Health Week theme is ‘We all have a role to play’, as individuals looking after our own mental health, but also in checking in and caring for one another in our communities, our families, and our workplaces. So if you are finding things a bit of a challenge, or know someone that is, consider a mental health checkin and know there are supports available on both the beautiful Flinders and King Islands that you can call on for some extra support. We are here to support you!

01.01.2022 Life is far from perfect, but there are lots of reasons for optimism. Setting positive goals for the future gives our lives a sense of direction and purpose. Although we face many challenges there are also lots of reasons to stay hopeful. By consciously choosing our priorities we can overcome issues, make progress and focus on what really matters. Who would like to join me as we kick off October for this month’s Action for Happiness Optimistic October Calendar?
