24.01.2022 GIS mapping tool providing 'whole of catchment' view to catchment groups in Brisbane In partnership with Brisbane City Council, Healthy Land and Water has been busy running training workshops, teaching members of the Brisbane Catchments Network and habitat Brisbane groups how to use our new GIS based mapping tool. The mapping tool has been designed to assist catchment groups with project design, allowing for a holistic whole of catchment view. The tool also identifies po...tential threats across the landscape that could be managed through on-ground projects. Additionally, the tool will also provide transparency between groups and local government on project proposals. With assistance from their Brisbane City Council Creek Catchment Officers, catchment groups are utilising this tool to help develop their Habitat Restoration Action Plans which will provide a strategic plan for each of group moving forward.

16.01.2022 I would like my daughters to grow up in an Australia where they don’t feel shame to express who they are and their heritage. 15.01.2022 Have you explored the results for South East Queensland in the Report Card 2020? If you haven’t already, check out the Report Card 2020 which was released recently. Now is a great time to have a look at this important resource for our growing area: https://reportcard.hlw.org.au/results Pictured are some of the Healthy Land and Water team behind the development of the new look Report Card. This includes Isobel Gordon who led the redesign work and Iris Tsoi, Naomi Soustal, Shan...non Mooney and Maddie George from our science and information team behind the data and reporting you see on the Report Card portal. The new-look format makes it easier to learn more about the health of your catchment, trends over time, the on-ground work happening in your area, and how you can be involved. The independent monitoring and reporting initiative is led by #NRM group for #SouthEastQueensland Healthy Land and Water. Monitoring and reporting is an expensive undertaking and the Healthy Land and Water Report Card initiative is made possible by funding contributions from a broad range of active bodies including state and local governments, utilities, who are interested in understanding the changing environment as it is impacted by a fast-growing population and booming tourist destination. The information collected is a great tool to manage impacts on the region’s development now, and into the future. 14.01.2022 If there has been heavy rain, remember to wait at least one day before swimming in open waterways and beaches, and for at least three days in confined bays, estuaries, lakes, and rivers. Heavy rainfall can wash disease-causing microorganisms (germs) and pollutants into waterways, which can cause illness. Young people, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems are most at risk. For more information about when it's safe to go swimming, visit https://buff.ly/34MlK...qH #healthywaterplay #pollution #rainfall #southeastqueensland Healthy Land and Water

13.01.2022 One of the biggest names in shorebirds says continued action and a long-term commitment to protect the species is needed. Jill Chamberlain has been monitoring the numbers of migratory and other waterbirds along the Pumicestone Passage for the Queensland Wader Study Group for nearly 20 years. In this time, she has witnessed a steady decline in the number of migratory birds arriving from the northern hemisphere. Research undertaken by a team from the The University of Queenslan...d as part of Healthy Land and Water’s Ramsar project reflects Jill’s reports.
