08.01.2022 I want to share a helpful tip one of our very smart clients shared with me! Ayla has been mopey since Bert passed on Saturday - not bad... still eating and wa...gging her tail, but less spunky than normal for our crazy girl! And she's sleeping in the spots that were typically "Bert's spots." So, a previous client and now friend recommended what she had done... when their male dog passed away, his female buddy wanted to stay in his crate all day. They put his collar on her, and she was out and around the house like normal again. So, I decided to try it with Ayla. When I got Bert's collar out she sniffed it and just wagged her tail like crazy! I put it on her, and she's had a bit more bounce in her step. Still not 100% Ayla, but better :) I imagine its the smell that is comforting. So, I thought I'd share... in case anyone else has the need to give this a try :) ETA: It warms our hearts to know that this photo is now reaching so many people! To answer a few questions: Dr. Dawnetta's family said goodbye to Bert in 2016, when this was originally posted. Ayla was there, by Bert's side as the whole family said goodbye in the living room. She sniffed him and said goodbye in her own way before he left the home. Wearing Bert's collar certainly helped Ayla adjust! She seemed quite comforted by it, and wore it until another rescue dog, Ellie, joined the family <3 Ayla had always acted like the "young puppy" when she played with Bert...who was a wonderful older brother. As soon as Ellie joined the family, Ayla took on the role of "Big Sister" and taught Ellie so much! Now they are best buddies <3 Ayla is now 6, and Ellie is 3 <3
