25.01.2022 Growing outdoors has its own set of challenges! While it's how nature is "meant to be" it doesn't allow for hiccups that affect a business. Last week the crop was amazing and weather conditions perfect. This week there was a half day of sun and rain every single day and our melaluecas (paper bark trees) continuously snowed blossom onto the crop. As a result my microgreens are not big enough for my market customers which meant i had to cut before they were big enough to give a good yield! In addition the rain brought a little friend in the form of a green frog which, while very beautiful, ruined a few trays with his/her random hopping through my lush crop. Fingers crossed for an uneventful crop next week!!

25.01.2022 Yesterday I had a portion of one tray of sunflower shoots left over. I know how full of nutrition these babies are, and thinking about how so many of my friends have a Super Smoothie every morning, I decided to experiment by dehydrating them and making some powder. Into the dehydrator they went at a very mild, raw food temperature of 54 deg. A couple of hours later they were positively skeletal and crispy!!!. O. M. G. 178 grams turned into 10 grams . The end result wasn't even enough to put in the thermomix to powderise!!!! So, while I have a pitiful amount to show for my effort, I am still keen to do some more - just need to grow more shoots.....

24.01.2022 Thank you everyone who bought a Super Salad yesterday - hope you're enjoying the flavours and nutrition!! This week had more radish and sunflower shoots because the snow peas were planted later than the schedule!! Oops. What seems so simple can make a huge difference to the end result - I tried talk therapy and extra water but they just wouldn't grow faster!!! Last night had me taking off the covers and putting some little babies under light for them to grow and green up for next week - truly is a cycle of life

24.01.2022 Well, last week's experimental crop was a mixed bag. Salvaged a few sunflower shoots but had a terrific snowpea crop. I bought some fresh sunflower seeds and they are currently going gang busters for harvest at the end of the week. Lana at Olive Tree at Rustys Markets will be selling small boxes of Super Salads in the coming weeks. Also Chris at the Real Food Network organic stall has a couple of trays of the snowpea shoots to cut to order, very EXCITING !! I have tried some ...confetti herbs too (rocket, mizuna, kale and red cabbage) as an assortment planting and they are looking fabulous. Beetroot is growing well too. Still not in full production but just testing all my seed supply after the long (eternal) hot summer. This year will see the introduction of the windowsill farm. Just for you. In your kitchen!!! Just a snip and your dishes will look Masterchef worthy . (Lana is also stocking some tasty biscuit treats for me - gluten free available as well!!)

23.01.2022 Salad dayz are here order for Saturday morning delivery

22.01.2022 All these micros about to sacrifice their lives to add to your health!!

19.01.2022 So this is my latest recruit into the Super Salad family.....sweet popping corn shoots!! They have to be grown in the dark otherwise they turn green and the chlorophyll tastes bitter beyond belief (learnt that one last week). They are bright yellow and the taste is very sweet, a bit corn like with a slightly tang at the end. Odd really....in a good way. Just got to get my timing right so they are ready to add to the mix....

18.01.2022 A challenge has presented itself!! Hot humid weather!! All my experiments and subsequent successful crops have been grown in a cooler weather situation. The last couple of weeks have seen some varieties of microgreens struggling with the increase in heat as we head towards our tropical summer. Some grow faster (too fast) and some grow slower , so flexibility and more experimentation has been key. This week's crop may be small so if you would like a bag of Super Salad please text me asap. And it may be a Sunday delivery depending on growth. Also next weekend (17th) there won't be a crop as I have my daughter's birthday sleepover. I have also been trying out growing on a non-soil medium with a liquid nutrient but as you can see with the photos attached, soil is king!!!

16.01.2022 The sun came out this week and as a result I haved a good crop of Super Salad!!! Text me your order soon and I'll deliver tomorrow. I built a new growing table so the sunflowers loved the dappled sunlight and grew huge!! Who knew? Sunflowers liking the sun.... Large bag 300g $13 Small bag 150g $8 Includes a super sprinkle of nuts and seeds

16.01.2022 A long hiatus has been necessary because of the hot and humid weather. Unfortunately this affects not only the growing cycle but also the fertility of the seed. The sunflower seeds were stored in my house but not refrigerated and as you can see from the photos germination has been less than 10%. I think this is because of the high oil content. Compared to the Snow peas, which it seems were unaffected by the heat....back to my seed supplier...sigh. Happy chooks though - they LOVE sunflower seeds.

16.01.2022 This is the lunch box of one sophisticated teenager!!! Check out the Super Salad thanks @janecanavan for sharing

14.01.2022 Lots of people ask me how long the Super Salads last in the fridge. I say about 5-6 days. This photo is of a salad I picked and packed last Saturday morning and it looks and smells fresh still!! It would probably be happier if I soaked it in ice cold water for 10 minutes to replenish the crispness but I am stoked that there is no deterioration of the leaves (even the tiny ones). The Super Salad mix tomorrow will include a NEW microgreen called Miztique which is an oriental m...ustard variety so a bit spicy. When grown for longer the leaves are the brightest purple but as micros they are an iridescent pinkish colour. Sunflower shoots are powering this week so I have an extra special offer.....buy a large Super Salad and get 200g of sunflower shoots for $4. These are very mild in taste but loaded with nutrition so will perfectly add that Super boost for your morning smoothie!! DELIVERY SATURDAY MORNING Text me your order on 0409 019 055 before 9pm tonight!!! Also please share this page with your friends

14.01.2022 Super Salad delivery this weekend will be Sunday rather than Saturday (the Micros need to grow an extra day - i messed up my schedule ). If you would like a salad please text me on 0409 019 055.

03.01.2022 Most of the time I get it right. Some I chalk up to experience (or lack of) but every now and then I have to laugh!!
