23.01.2022 A theme that is coming up alot with my clients is not sleeping enough, broken sleep, not getting to sleep easily, or waking up feeling tired and fatigued. When we lose the ability to achieve quality sleep, our health declines. We can see correlations of this in our fasting blood glucose, cytokines, salivary cortisol panels and hormone profiles but also with blood pressure, body temperature, and heart rate. ... One aspect that has changed dramatically overtime is our light environment. This has altered our circadian rhythm and influenced one of our key hormones, melatonin, which protects our mitochondria. Our mitochondria are the powerhouses of our cells creating ATP (our energy). The production of cortisol also starts and ends in our mitochondria. And what is one of cortisols main disadvantages when its not functioning correctly - fat storage around the abdomen. There are so many other processes that occur during sleep and that also affect your sleep, which is why you can not hack or short cut sleep. Your health requires quality sleep. My current tips for good sleep hygeine: Getting 15-20 mins of early morning sun Wearing orange blue blockers as soon as the sun goes down Daily breathwork/meditation practice Decreasing your screen time at night with no usage 60 minutes before bed Herbal teas - valerian root and the native, medicinal gumbi gumbi (my favourite) Sleeping in a cool, dark room Magnesium 30-60 minutes before bed (spray or supplement) Spending quality time in nature Turning your wifi off at night and any other high EMF products Getting to bed early Everything works better with restorative sleep; your digestion, your sex hormone balance, your mood, your skin and your thyroid function. How is your sleep? Doi: PMC1188300

13.01.2022 Western Medicine is constrained by the belief that the mind and body are separate, treating them individually and restricting our healing in the process. Indigenous and Eastern cultures have honored and completely understood the connections that are present between the mind, the body, and the spirit for thousands of years. Using ritual and ceremony to access the Self, connecting to our ancestors and knowing everything is connected. This disconnection was birthed by a Fre...nch philosopher Rene Descartes in the 17th century, which we still treat like today. If you're psychologically sick you see one type of doctor, and if your physically ill the process plays out much differently. The idea of a whole person approach has been cast aside for a symptom approach, creating a viscous cycle of dependence on suppressing our symptoms rather than listening to them. After all - thats how our body communicates with us yet all physicians tend to do is silence them, suffering new harms. This is called the band-aid approach, looking at surface level, individual symptoms rather than diving into the underlying cause/s. This is exactly the reason why I started Heal Well. To bring a holistic approach to your healing, whilst educating you along the way so you then have the tools and the power to heal your own body, mind and soul. If you are struggling with your health or you just know there is more to your situation please reach out. We are here to help x
11.01.2022 I was in a beautiful yoga class last night with @lolllliess @bodiline.pilates and she spoke about our baseline happiness. That place we visit on a regular basis which is the inbetween. The place we nestle back into after experiencing extreme highs and the lowest of lows. The place that is necessary for life, for us to function in our bodies, on this plane, in the present moment. The Buddhists talk about this notion of living on the midline, the middle path, the middle way...; between the extremes of sensual indulgence and self-mortification. If you think about these extremes and when you have experienced them there is no sense of calm, no right understanding, no mindfulness because we are over sensitized. These words rang true for me last night and whilst I can’t remember exactly what was said it was a beautiful awakened speech that allowed me to think about the devastation our community has faced. Not only over the past few weeks but the past few years. I hope we can all strive to come back to our baseline happiness, on an individual level as well as a community. Im here, as is my team, to support you in any way that we can on that journey. To remind you to breathe, to reach out for help, to just listen. Sending so much love and golden light to my neighbours, my community and the surrounding areas. From all of us at Heal Well xx See more
