Getting in the water whether it’s in the pool, on a boat or at the beach. Socialising more Camping There’s so much to love about Summer. But what I don’t like is the post Winter flab’s. 22.01.2022 Maintaining a healthy size is only one of the benefits of getting that body moving. Here are some other reasons to exercise regularly. IT’S GOOD FOR YOUR BRAIN Especially cardio exercise. You don’t have to be in a gym, either getting outside for a regular brisk walk does wonders for your mood and overall wellbeing. Speed up a bit more than your usual step, listen to some music or a podcast, soak up the weather and feel those chemicals in your brain firing up. Plus the extra... oxygen moving through your skull will actually improve your memory!!! IT IMPROVES YOUR ENERGY LEVELS When you’re always doing something active, your body gets used to the routine and prepares itself for that extra strain. Which means you’ll feel sluggish and tired. In general, that is. You’ll still probably feel tired after a massive session of sweating it out. But don’t be surprised when you find yourself more able to focus. IT HELPS WITH OTHER HEALTH-BASED STUFF, TOO Weight loss isn’t just about looking good regular exercise reduces your risk of some chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, some cancers and things like that. Your body will be better placed to defend against them. IT’S GREAT FOR YOUR BONE AND MUSCLE HEALTH Exercise builds up your bone and muscle strength, which makes you stronger in terms of being able to pick up heavier things with less strain, but also in the sense of making you more resilient. That means you’ll be able to fight off certain injuries and illnesses, especially as you get older. IT’S HELPFUL IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE SLEEPING Turns out that making sure you’ve used up lots of energy through the day is an excellent way to knock yourself out when it’s bedtime. It burns stress, too, which means you won’t be staring at the ceiling wondering what it’s all about in life. 12.01.2022 Fitness Tip of the Week - Artificial Sweeteners: Good or Bad? I’m sure you've all heard some claims out there when it comes to the use of artificial sweeteners, chemicals added to food & beverages to make them taste sweet. Used in food to reduce calories - taste buds/brain recognises it as sweet, but body can’t break it down into calories. Harmful Claims... Can Increase Cancer Risk (Animal studies) May Harm Your Blood Sugar Levels Can Harm Your Gut Health Might Increase Appetite by confusing the brain May Cause Cravings for Sugary Foods Beneficial Claims Unlikely to Increase Risk of Cancer, when consumed in recommended amounts No Effect on Blood Sugar or Insulin Levels Helps reduce calories consumed Not shown to increase appetite Promotes weight loss Less likely to cause tooth decay than sugar There are so many theories that support both positive and negative sides. These substances are carefully tested and regulated but it still leaves it open to personal interpretation. My conclusion >> anything in moderation (or in recommended amounts) is not going to impact you in a negative way but if there is factual evidence of negative harm then it is better to take a natural alternative, ie Stevia, Honey, Rice Malt Syrup etc...to sweeten your food and beverages. Or maybe it is the perfect time to quite sugar all together! How do you feel about this?

12.01.2022 I woke up this morning and found myself falling back into old negative limiting beliefs. It was raining, I really didn’t have the time, there might be magpies.... Yep the excuses were rolling as to why I shouldn’t do my Friday run. But I pulled myself up on that shit - because that’s just what it is shit talk, got dressed and ventured out to the river trail and ran. ... So glad I did because I pushed myself today with a massive PB taking 6min off my 10k time I did on Monday . My first 10k run under an hour All the hard work is paying off. Never give up.... 08.01.2022 Here is one of my favourite recipes, courtesy of the Natural Nutritionist. If there is a good time to devour a delicious trifle it’s at Christmas time and when it’s gluten, dairy and refined sugar free, it’s a no-brainer! We’ve put a healthy spin on a traditional Christmas classic that will even have the most reluctant guests consider jumping on the healthier way of life band wagon. Give it a try these holidays and let us know what you think.... INGREDIENTS (MAKES 4-6) Coco-whip: 1 x 400ml can organic full fat coconut cream 1/2 teaspoon organic vanilla essence 1 tablespoon lemon zest Sponge Cake: 3 eggs, free range 1/4 cup cold-pressed extra virgin coconut oil 3 tablespoons rice malt syrup 1/2 teaspoon organic vanilla essence 4 tablespoons coconut flour 1/4 cup almond meal 1/2 teaspoon gluten free baking powder 1 pinch of salt Berry Compote: 1 cup blueberries 1 tablespoon chia seeds 2 tablespoons lemon juice Toppings: 1 cup strawberries, chopped 2 tablespoons pistachios, chopped METHOD To make the coco-whip you will need to place the coconut cream in the fridge 1-2 days prior to allow the liquid to separate from the cream (which will harden). Scoop out the hardened cream (reserve the liquid for smoothies or another recipe in future) and place in a mixing bowl with the vanilla and lemon zest. Blitz until creamy and set aside in the fridge. To make the sponge cake, preheat oven to 180C and line a small baking tray with baking paper. In a large bowl combine eggs with coconut oil, rice malt syrup and vanilla. Add the coconut flour, almond meal, salt, baking powder and salt and mix until well combined. Add cake mix to prepared tray and bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted. Set aside to cool completely before slicing into cubes. Move onto your berry compote by placing blueberries and lemon juice into a small saucepan. Allow to simmer for 10 minutes, covered. Once juice forms add chia seeds and let simmer for another 5 minutes until it turns into a gel-like consistency. Set aside to cool completely. You are now ready to create your trifle and serve into glasses (4 medium sized or 6 small glasses). Start with a layer of berry compote (roughly 2 tablespoons), followed by sponge cake (1 layer of cubes), a small handful of strawberries and then cream (roughly 2 tablespoons). Garnish with extra strawberries, pistachios and remaining compote and repeat this process into each glass. Enjoy.
