25.01.2022 Bailey's journey (update) After seeking some advice on the best scan/test to monitor Bailey's cancer, we decided to book a CT scan. This was a little earlier than planed but we were advised that they need a blood test either done on the day or within the last month. As we had just spend $400 on a blood test we decided to book him in.... It was also good timing as bailey had been experiencing slight constipation. However, I now believe this may have been due to a new turmeric tablet I was giving him? The scan wasn't really as helpful as we wanted it to be! The main mass is about the same with no spread to the lungs. There are two other small sites and his spleen has slightly enlarged (no tumor) . The small sites are probably the polyps found at biopsy. Whilst I really don't want to put him through anymore, we have now decided to proceed with the surgery to re-section his bowel! Main reason is that we can't monitor how much the main large mass is constricting his bowel and it could perferate. To continue guessing is putting bailey at risk and the CT scan couldn't show us this critical information. We have reached out to the surgeon and are now awaiting an appointment time. On the plus side this now gives us the option to use my wild card! If the surgeon agrees his tumor will be frozen and sent to a researcher Ive located. A specific vaccine will be created and sent back for Bailey. The idea of this vaccine is to allow his immune system to identify his specific cancer and eliminate it. It's still in research stage but they have had 60% success rate in previous trials. Please send plenty of pawsitive thought for Bailey over the coming months, he will need it Millie is doing well and says a big woof to everyone. 07/09/2020 - first scan - 30kg 15/9/2020- failed aspirations 07/10/2020- exploratory surgery/biopsy 14/10/2020- results (the day my heartbroke) 27/10/2020- oncologist 07/11/2020 - weight 32kg! 18/11/2010 - weight 31.5kg (we reduced food intake following constipation) 18/11/2020 - CT scan (pic below, drowsy bailey)

23.01.2022 It's been a while since I've updated Bailey's journey. I booked a photo shoot with the amazing Kat to capture some lovely moments in time of me and my boy. Highly recommended Kat, she did an amazing job since Bailey is a typical V and doesn't sit still He is still doing well and we have one more jab to go before we scan again. He has, however shown some very small signs it may be back (we were told it was very aggressive) For now we are continuing with supplements and raw diet, focusing on anti inflammatory foods/sups. And just of course enjoying our time with him and these beautiful these photos

23.01.2022 I received a rather snotty email yesterday. It happens. The poster wasnt happy with my putting down of kibble. Absolutely fair enough. But to support her point..., I was confronted with "are you aware what the scientific consensus is?". This is a long conversation and one I would happily spend many hours unravelling for her, it being the entire focus of my forthcoming book, but could perhaps quickest end this line of attack by countering with my old staple - how many studies has she read that support the use of dry, "complete", cereal-based pet food over the use of fresh, species-appropriate meat and bone in dogs? But instead, I ignored her and started thinking of all the times scientific consensus was wrong (this is why Einstein set the exact same exam to his physics students two years in a row. When his mistake was highlighted to him he smiled and said while the questions may be the same now the answers had changed). While its part of the fun of it, staying abreast of the changing literature can be a bit daunting. Studies show that our own doctors are not doing so to any real degree. After a long day they are unable to. Their discipline is too broad. The sheer volume of studies being produced on each every illness and drug and treatment is overwhelming, even in your subject of speciality. The best nutritional example of where scientific consensus has been so wrong, and there are many, was highlighted to me last week during a podcast with Dr. Nick Thompson, Dr. Brendan Clarke (President of the Raw Feeding Vet Society) and Rowan Sanderson, the Chief Nutritional Officer of Bella n Duke raw dog food in the UK. At this sort of table, you hang on and try not to make a fool of yourself. Theres little I enjoy more than talking science with people. Each person has their particular fetish, one they have used their unique skills and insight to dig deep into, often to an unhealthy degree! Were all guilty of it. When we all get going, you can sometimes feel a little overwhelmed, that theres still so much to learn, like youre on a train, the scenery is whizzing past you. It can be hard to take it all in. But the payoff of chatting this is way is when someone, who has been digging all week / month / year into a specific subject, pops out of their little hole, faces all black, and with tails wagging furiously they present you with a small, digestible nugget they found. Rowan highlighted a gem I had completely neglected - until recently the scientific consensus was that cholesterol was the cause of heart disease because, when they opened up heart disease patients, their arteries were clogged with the stuff. Like when we thought eating fat makes you fat, this makes perfect sense, right? Everyone agreed the best course of action at this point was that a low cholesterol diet and various meds should be prescribed to ensure this happens. And this works to avoid catastrophe. At least in the short term. The reason the long-term fix eluded us is that recently we discovered that its very little to do with cholesterol at all. In fact, more than 80% of that cholesterol was produced by your OWN BODY. What you are looking at is a body trying to fix itself. Not only does cholesterol work in the maintenance of cell membranes but it also works to reduce inflammation. If you are suffering chronic inflammation, as so many obese Westerners are, your body responds by flooding the system with cholesterol. Unfortunately, if you dont avert your course of action (crap diet), yes over time, this stuff can clog up your arteries and then youre in trouble. ONCE AGAIN here we are focusing on the symptoms of a toxic environment rather than fixing the terrain itself. Turning off the smoke alarm with a big stick. Sadly what we find is the medicine appears on the scene quite quickly, with every doctor bought in within the year. But when we realise those meds are potentially useless and bordering harmful in many patients, that sort of info disseminates all too slowly. Funny that. Never believe science is standing still. Its very far from it. Nutritional science, in dogs, in particular, is moving along at great speed, a fast-moving train, never pausing too long at any station, but that doesnt stop it from being a very enjoyable ride.

22.01.2022 Update on Bailey: He is now 32.7kg!! Very happy that he is able to put weight on and keep it. Now I'm focusing on trying to maintain this weight and increase his exercise. He has been back on full raw for sometime now and the advised lifelong diarrhea has cleared up. Yes we do have some soft/runny poops still but these are far and few between. Also normally due to indiscriminate eating/drinking outside of his diet!! ... He is still on lots of supplements and these are broken down over two/three meals a day. I have always been a fan of rotation so I find myself doing the same with his supplements. Once I've run out I use a different brand or supplement altogether. He still has two more jabs to go, one in Feb and the final one in March. Then, if everything goes to plan he will have another CT scan April time. Just in time for his Birthday. As he is doing so well, we've not had any further blood tests, these will be done in April with the ct. Although his last bloods were perfect (I will post his results) we will need to monitor his B12 as with no iluem this can be an issue. Luckily one of his (very expensive ) supplement has B12 in it.

19.01.2022 So an update for you; Bailey saw the oncologists 27/10/2020 who advised us with the type of cancer Bailey has there is no treatment. The dogs he sees with this type are usually gone within a month of diagnosis! He took bloods and called me 03/11/2020 to advise all results were in the NORMAL range. The oncologists suggest surgery at this stage but has given us a 3-6 month timeline.... The surgeon we first contacted didn't recommend surgery as it won't make much difference in prolonging life. This moment in time we have decided not to do surgery and have looked at many and implemented some holistic treatments. We will review each day and only opt for surgery if and when needed. This is Bailey on the beach this morning. As awalys Millie's says Woof! 07/09/2020 - first scan - 30kg 15/9/2020- failed aspirations 07/10/2020- exploratory surgery/biopsy 14/10/2020- results (the day my heartbroke) 27/10/2020- oncologist 07/11/2020 - weight 32kg!

17.01.2022 Adenocarcinoma (intestinal) - palliative options only This is the official diagnosis and outcome for my baby boy Bailey. Timeline is unclear but we were advised 6-18 months Totally Devastated and hearbroken but we haven't given up yet! I will however not drag anything out! I DO NOT want to see my boy in pain or suffering.... For now tho he is just Bailey, being his usual goofy, stupid self and showing NO clinical signs of the disease. This gives us some hope for the future. Whilst at the same time I have to keep reminding myself that there is no cure only a possibility of being able to manage and hold it off for as long as possible I have plenty of research (probably too much) and some routes we can take depending on how this beast wants to progress. But we are ready for the fight HMR

10.01.2022 So, it has unfortunately come to a time where I must write the following post! Please bear with me and I apologise for any misspellings in advance as its hard typing with tears in your eyes! You may or may not be aware that the current situation for small business, just in general, is not great, there have been many closures of new and long-standing businesses in very recent years. 08.01.2022 Know why dogs scratch with their back legs after taking a poop? And no, its not to cover it. They want people to know its there. A poo is a signpost with all ...their info on it (not that a light dusting of grass is going to do much there anyway). Its because as well as anal glands in their bum they have scent glands in their back feet. By scratching, theyre adding a few more messages to the area. Its like sending your friend a text to tell him to check his WhatsApp. See more

06.01.2022 Sorry its been a while but here is an update on bailey and millie antics; So, it's not been a great few months, especially for Bailey! fast forward to today and to give you an update, we are currently waiting on biopsy results. This should be available by Monday! Bailey has a section of bowel that has become thickened and is looking consistent with intestinal lymphoma. ... After the initial scan at my regular vets, I contacted Dr Gregory Wright for a second opinion. This was a recommendation through Jackie @ functional canine. Dr Wright has been amazing and walked us through the scan and blood results. When booked in for exploratory surgery, Dr gregory saw another less invasive option available at the time of his apointment and advised us of this. Although nothing has been confirmed yet I am devastated and heartbroken. Bailey has always been my best friend and emotional rock Will keep you posted, when I know more and when I can emotionally bring myself to. P.s Millie is all good and says woof

01.01.2022 After the nails clippers went "missing" Ive finally replaced them and we had our first nails session in approx 4 weeks! Millie is not comfortable with having her paws touched or nails clipped but we took it at her own pace and she seemed to settle. She has always had long nails/quicks but I hope to keep trimming and reducing her nails to a comfortable length (its a constant battle!)
