24.01.2022 Too Busy, Too Much Life, work, the amount there is on, the amount there is to do, It's not a problem except when it all gets too much. You probably know something about overwhelm if you feel swamped you feel like everything is crowding in on you... you feel like you're doing lots but just going from one thing to another you are on a repetitive pattern that starts with "I'll just get through this' and you never do because another thing always comes up you can't enjoy it when things do slow down because you've lost the ability to switch off and rejuvenate you find yourself constantly worrying. When someone asks you how you are, your most common response is 'busy'. In my research on stress and wellbeing, overwhelm was the most commonly selected type of stress, followed by worry. And it was consistent across the business and welfare sectors I looked at. Reduce busyness and overwhelm, and we would save ourselves a lot of angst, increase our productivity, and find life a lot more enjoyable. So where do you start? I suggest there are 4 key areas to look at. This week I'll give an overview, and in future articles in this series we will look at each in more detail. Whilst all the areas are relevant, you'll probably find one stands out for you, and will give you the best results for your efforts. Focus and productivity This is about working effectively, utilizing focussed blocks of time, minimizing distractions, and working on what is important. Trying to do it all is not sustainable and often impossible. How you respond to this is important. Included in this area is recognizing and combating energy drains. Maintaining and building your energy In my research on stress and wellbeing, participants reported that the thing they struggled with most was 'switching off', 'replenishment' and being able to 'just be'. This is about how you recharge, how to work in sustainable ways, and how to increase your capacity to manage the pressure. Understanding your personal blueprint We all have different makeups. You need to understand how you operate and what does, and does not, work for you. Sometimes you can be given great advice, but if it doesn't fit you, then that's all it is. If you know the blueprint for what works for you, it gives you a huge advantage in being able to respond effectively. A repertoire of responses to stress If you can recognize the very initial danger signals of overwhelm, you can take action before it sets in. If you know effective strategies to counteract stress it reduces its impact both in severity and duration. You will also be much more likely to be able to learn and experiment with new ways to respond. So out of these 4, which one stands out for you? Knowing this helps you effectively target ways to counteract overwhelm.

24.01.2022 Gorgeous morning, just teaming with birds and insects and life, including a possum who has made its home on our veranda. So blessed!

23.01.2022 Let's gather some great information on overwhelm and see what is happening for people? Take this 5 minute survey on Overwhelm and distribute it to others. It would be great to get it to as many as possible. Initial results will be published next week in the part 2 of the Too Busy, Too Much series, so great if you could complete it straight away. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KKBFVKQ (If you miss the deadline, still complete it. The info will still make a valuable contribution to the data being collected - thanks)

21.01.2022 2014, glad it's over..! As I come to the end of 2014, one thing is clear, I don’t want 2015 to be like last year. Yeah, I know I’m supposed to be into gratitude and positivity and all that stuff, and there were some good things in 2014, but I can’t say it was one of my better years and I’m glad it’s over!... In theory my logical mind says that the whole New Years thing is just arbitrary, and that January 1st is just another day, but my heart says it’s a new beginning, a new year, and a chance for things to be different. And I do want 2015 to be different. Last year took its toll and ended with some practical challenges we’ll need to tackle this year. I know if I approach things in the same way as last year, with the same results, then come the end of this year I’m going to be really disappointed. This year is a time for me to build on the steps forward I took last year and reverse the areas where I went backwards or didn’t take action. However, my new years resolve, doesn't come alone. Can I make an impact on the things I want to change? Is this motivation and determination a flash in the pan? Will I fall back into how I had been at the end of last year, which as much as I can understand it, is not going to get me to where I want to be. I come into 2015 positive, determined and motivated, but with very human doubts as well. So what about you? Where are you at as you approach 2015? The questions for this week are What do you celebrate 2014 for? What do you want to keep from last year? Do you want 2015 to be different? Love to hear your responses and it makes it more real for you when you put it out there. Here's my answers. I celebrate 2014 for the work I did with clients - some amazing work was done everyone I worked with and it was an honour to play a part. From 2014 I want to keep the fact that I kept trying and didn't give up, I was willing to go outside my comfort zone time and time again, my ability to work with people developed, and I was more connected to myself and centred than ever have been. Do I want 2015 to be different? - Absolutely! Want so much to have the practical resources to do the work I love. Whether 2014 was a great year, or not the best, I hope that 2015 is a wonderful year for you and that you grow and experience abundant richness in the things that are important to you. 2015, so glad you're here!
