19.01.2022 Interesting to see here the role and identity of the occupational therapy profession being discussed again - bravo to the blogger. The blog prompted me to think about it, and I would say that for me an important pivot point for our profession comes not so much from the lens of the naive or consumer questioner but from the provocative and considered questioners and thought leaders within our own profession. For example I remember Ann Wilcock challenging us to keep embracing o...ur occupational roots in our practice and to keep activating broad roles beyond the niche model of individual intervention within the tertiary health/illness sector. And a couple of decades on I continue to observe that our profession's praxis for achieving community wellbeing can whither if we do not use broad approaches in our practice. Thank goodness for the findings in the field of occupational science that remind occupational therapists to have every confidence in the value of our expertise that keeps the occupational needs and nature of humans central. Indeed, let's keep challenging ourselves to fill and even create roles that promote the relevance of meaningful occupation for wellbeing for all. As a contemporary OT I continue to feel the urge to step up in the cross-sectoral leadership and collaboration space for wellbeing outcomes, for our actions will always speak louder than our words in explaining our role.
