25.01.2022 Open Day HERE 14th September. Meet our Volunteers, our Herd and our friends!

22.01.2022 *Whiskey Update!* Not being a Veterinarian, I remain schtum between visits with Whiskey, however I have noticed a definite improvement in his eye this past week.... The eyelid is healed so well you cannot really tell there was a hole in it larger than most teenage boys earring plug fantasies! Dr Donna Colvin had guided me to give Whiskey anti-inflammatory powder to minimise the repairing eyelid wound from rubbing the eyeball, which was still ulcerated over a week ago. I was also given anti-inflammatory liquid drops for the eyeball, by Dr Harris, the Veterinary eye specialist, via a student who works with him - THANK YOU Cindy! This combination appears to have helped, as each day Whiskey's eye opens wider. At first revealing the ulcer more clearly (and UV reactivity issues, so we have helped with that). It's not easy convincing a horse to allow you to place drops into his eyeball regularly, but he has remained the perfect patient for this amateur nurse. He has began walking from his feeds, however, containing the anti-inflammatory powder. The good news is Dr Colvin said today I can half the dose, which he's begun doing himself! The ulcer, when I frequently check, is definitely healing, and the eyeball returning to the look of glass I long for him. There is still cloudiness within the eyeball. It's proven impossible to photograph, unlike the early days of this injury, because the light reflects right off the structures within the eye and wrecks the image in the camera, but I am convinced I saw healing recommence! Our Vet agree's, and we now have two weeks before the next check-up. Excellent! I lost the bottle of drops - fell out of my pocket somewhere at Heartland, so we may find them soon, but a replacement bottle has been given to me. I WON'T lose this one! Drugs without PBS (i.e. for companion animals rather than humans) are SO EXPENSIVE! Dr Colvin commented today that she is as glad as I that Whiskey has come so far in his recovery, that she had "Never seen anything like it." Those words are best left until recovery is well under way. Every step has been a challenge for Whiskey, myself, our team, and we never doubted the advice we were given and the decisions we made. I may have lost confidence and resilience had I known that this was a worst, for our Vet! Whiskey is still sore-footed, has a rash on his face from low immunity, grazing Cape Weed (our herd always graze the cape Weed and have never suffered before), and his several-times daily care continues, but I stare at that small lump of cloud in his eyeball, about the size of a pea, and I a determined it will disappear, and Whiskey's sight return fully. This Sunday Whiskey is accompanying Megan and I to Greener Pastures Sanctuary busy bee part 2 to meet the volunteers there, and attempt to demonstrate who we are and what we do, to a bunch of dedicated animal friends, carers and activists. He is Bach's best friend, after all, and ironically has been Bach's "Guide Dog" since age began to set in for Bach's sight. Bach is our greatest Ambassador, and Whiskey his worthy successor. Whiskey is well enough to travel with his friend, and meet great humans, despite currently healing. He will support Bach, and has enough love and attention to give everyone there anyway, while Bach and I tell our story. Whiskey won't tell this story. He will behave as if there is nothing at all to be concerned over. He will nurture the humans, have them fall in love with him, and with their hearts in his hooves, gather more love for The Heart of Horsemanship. You know now, I believe, why this experience has involved so many of you, such an outpouring of love and generosity, and dedication from our team. Whiskey is a miracle. XJ

22.01.2022 Our front lawn, food and home to thousands, millions, of species. Awe!

19.01.2022 Jason Lavender (he has his own Facebook profile, if you like him, and would like to follow him here, or glance at this album, and he appears in most of our activities). Heartland would be less Zen without his presence!

18.01.2022 Like Whiskey, who is recovering well, we SEE the end of this journey through injury, distress and treatment! Help us across the line, as you have helped our Not-for-Profit team of volunteers so far. Jayne Lavender will teach all day Sunday on our behalf, to raise the last of the "Whiskey" funds! Please share. Call 0417 919 101 or email [email protected] to book.

18.01.2022 Whiskey Lavender UPDATE! Whiskey has been participating more fully within the herd, but as his closest human friend, I sensed some continuing discomfort. All d...rugs completed a week ago, but the ulcer on his eyeball is still visible, when he opens his healed eyelid - the eyelid is now scarred from the exit site of the abscess, and the scar tissue is tight across his eyeball. This means Dr Donna Colvin named the ulcer "Indolent" and healing appears to have stopped. To assist with the tight wound we have started anti-inflammatories again, and I am continuing to put healing gel into his eyeball every day. He also has UV-itis still, another reason he doesn't fully open his eyelid. We will revisit Serpentine Veterinary Hospital in a week for another progress check. Whiskey is very content, especially as he is receiving special treatment compared to his herd! As medication and care are continuing, your donations are still very much appreciated! Our website has a PayPal option, or you may credit our temporary account for the Not-for-Profit The Heart of Horsemanship ANZ 016253 501147502 I've started showing Whiskey's visitors and well-wishers some photos of the exit wound. I can barely believe his remarkable recovery to this stage! We believe Whiskey will have his vision restored, and his scarred eyelid will soften to ease pressure on his eyeball. Send your best wishes for the same! XJ

17.01.2022 via; The Heart of Horsemanship - TOMORROW! We've slashed the participation fee by $50 so that we are able to raise urgent funds for Whiskey's recent Healthcare needs, such as medications. We have a couple of places available, still. Join us for the opportunity to understand the starting place of a great relationship - with a horse, with another being, with yourself!

12.01.2022 There are over a dozen full grown Mouse Ears bushes as shelter belt and habitat, beautiful to see and food for many, at Heartland.

07.01.2022 "You're PURE, POSITIVE energy every moment you're asleep!" Abraham-Hicks Yes you are - we all are! Sleep is respite, not just rest and rejuvenation! Respite fr...om your thoughts and their momentum. Like meditation! Even better, when you wake you start fresh with your first thought. If your mind is reminding you about the trials of yesterday, dismiss that vibration as quick as you can, and think of something better - how warm you feel, how good it feels to be in bed - anything better than yesterday's momentum, or habits of thought that may no longer serve you or your desires. We recommend sleep. Our herd watch over each other to ensure everyone receives this gift! Look for opportunities in your day to take a break. Add sleep to your list of things for which you are appreciative. And if you happen to see your friend peacefully slumbering, as you smile and feel the beauty of the moment, remember it is because your friend is aligned with their source, our source - pure, positive energy!
