16.01.2022 New COVIDSafe app to help stop the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus The Australian Governments COVIDSafe app helps keep our community safe and reduces the chances of the virus being passed on to your family, friends and other people in the community. The app is designed to assist health officials to quickly understand and tackle the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus. ... Downloading the app is voluntary, but it is highly recommended by the Chief Medical Officer. The app will let you know if you have been in close contact with someone who is also using the app and has tested positive for COVID-19. The app will also allow for state and territory health officials to contact you if you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus. All information is stored locally on your phone and any other access or use of the data will be a criminal offence. 13.01.2022 From 5th Dec particular businesses will be required to maintain contact registers for COVID-19 contact tracing. What does this mean to you? It means if you visit restaurants, gyms, cinemas, hairdressers etc etc etc you will need to provide your name and telephone number. The easiest way to do this and the way the majority of people will be doing this, is by using the new SafeWA app on your phone.... The WA Government has developed a free app, SafeWA, which will provide businesses with a digital contact register system. What does this mean? It means that you simply scan the business's QR code that will be displayed at their venue using the app on your phone - behind the scenes your name and number will be stored, should it be needed for contract tracing. How do you do this? 1 - Download the SafeWA app on your phone from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. 2 - As guided by the app when you open it, set up an account (you will be asked for your name and phone number). 3 - Once you are set up, when you next go to a business that is required to capture your details, you can simply scan their QR code using your app and its all done. If you don't have a phone that can download apps, or you don't feel comfortable about using this app, you can always simply leave your name and telephone number on the businesses forms, it just may take longer. Here is a link that contains a video clip to show you easily how to do this - https://www.wa.gov.au//covid-/covid-19-coronavirus-safewa

10.01.2022 From Transplant Australia (link to the information is below): Vaccination the key to freedom The Board of Transplant Australia has recommended all transplant recipients in Australia be vaccinated for COVID-19. Transplant Australia held a highly successful ZOOM Webinar for recipients, those on dialysis, those waiting, living donors and doctors and nurses on February 18.... The clear evidence from the expert presenters was that the risks of becoming infected and of developing severe outcomes from COVID were higher for organ transplant recipients than for the general community, and as early data on vaccination of transplant recipients suggests similar safety to the general population, it makes good sense for transplant recipients to be immunized for COVID as soon as possible. Transplant Australia was pleased to host the webinar for the transplant community in Australia and beyond. Almost 2,000 participants logged in. It was held in conjunction with the Transplantation Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Transplant Nurses Association. It was proudly supported by Astellas. Here is the media release - https://transplant.org.au//COVID-Vaccination-for-Transplan Here is the link to the Transplant Australia webpage containing the information - https://transplant.org.au/vaccination-the-key-to-freedom/

08.01.2022 HOW EXCITING The striking new Life Project sculpture at the City Beach foreshore was unveiled this morning, celebrating lives made possible through organ and tissue donation. The sculpture was created by local artist Simon Youngelson, and represents people enjoying the iconic coastal location and delighting in the joy of life and how precious it is. The sculpture has been commissioned by DonateLife to honour organ and tissue donors and their families, and spark the conversa...tion around donor registration. The Town has been in partnership with DonateLife since 2014 and Cambridge Mayor Keri Shannon spoke at the unveiling event. Last year, 1,683 lives were transformed by 548 deceased and 239 living organ donors and their families. Around 1,700 Australians are currently waitlisted for an organ transplant and a further 12,000 are on dialysis, many of whom would benefit from a kidney transplant. Is it time you had the conversation with your loved ones about organ donation? Find out more and register via donatelife.gov.au #makethisthemoment DonateLife Images: @27Creative
