24.01.2022 THE HORSES is the beautiful doc about the healing relationship between traumatised ex-racehorses and war veterans that won Most Inspiring True Story at last year's festival. Director Nick Barkla is now raising funds to turn that into a full length film - THE HEALING. If you loved the short, you can help Nick out by donating at the link, and keep up with the action on their facebook page in the comments. Here's to the next BACKTRACK BOYS! https://staging.documentaryaustralia.com.au/pr/the-healing/

14.01.2022 Many of you are no doubt wondering what the status of the Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival 2020 is, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. The best answer that we can give you at this time is that, sadly you will not be seeing a Festival in 2020. While the Festival may be some four months away, the effects of the pandemic are still being felt at this crucial stage where we really start to put the Festival together. The social distancing requirements, the mothballi...ng of industry arts events, and the directive to work and study from home as far as possible have meant that we're heavily restricted in what we would otherwise be undertaking during this time. Notwithstanding any government directive, we also needed to minimise the risk to our team. So in short, we've suspended most of the behind the scenes work for 2020. The office has been closed and will remain so for some time to come but work still goes on and contacts remain the same. What should you expect to see in 2020 from Heart of Gold? At this time we cannot give a definitive answer as it will depend heavily on what is occurring around us as the year progresses. We are really hopeful that we will be permitted to put together some kind of event later in the year or next year to allow us to come together, be social, and to warm our hearts with film as a fundraiser for the 2021 festival, however it's too early to say when any such event will be on. All we can say is to keep an eye on our social media pages for any announcements. We are very excited for the 2021 festival, with everyone’s help this promises to be bigger and better than ever. We have some fantastic ideas already started and we look forward to seeing you soon. From the whole Heart of Gold team, stay safe, Yours Sincerely The Heart of Gold Board

05.01.2022 Hi All! Hope you are all ok out there! This is Tfer from QUT! You might remember me from the back room of HOG every year... well ok perhaps not But you will remember all the QUT films that we submit each year from our students. Last years' "In Bardo", and "Underdog"? They were from our students third year slate of films. ... This year the students had to abandon their usual documentary plans and produce a documentary entirely from home, with nothing but themselves, and the internet. This is the amazing series they produced in isolation! Please share and enjoy "From Home". There are 8 very different episodes here, looking at a huge range of issues, but above all positive and uplifting, with "hearts of gold" (Even if I do say so myself)

04.01.2022 If Netflix is wearing a little thin, here's some great resources for free online viewing. KANOPY has an incredible selection of films available (probably the best in Aus). Free if you have a library or student card. www.kanopy.com SUNDANCE LABS are one of the best training grounds for filmmakers of all levels, and Sundance have just allowed free access to all their recorded masterclasses. Absolutely don't sleep on this. www.collab.sundance.org/learn/master-classes... SXSW is the festival home of American indie cinema. This year's was sadly cancelled, but the shorts program is being hosted for free online here! www.mailchimp.com/presents/sxsw/ STATIC VISION is a Sydney film collective who've embraced lockdown with a regular selection of live cult and experimental film streams & Q&As. Follow their page for the latest: Static Vision.
