15.01.2022 Bragging about my boy 22/10/20 Hello again. My goodness it HAS been a while. I’m going to blame it on Covid Inertia- you know, being at home a fair bit means you can always put it off till tomorrow.and tomorrowand tomorrow. Unfortunately that means for me a few, quite a few, months. However, today I am so excited to share about one of my boys. He rarely saw the inside of a classroom from years 7 to 9. This year he went to a different high school for Year 10 and has mainta...ined his attendance for the whole year. I am so proud of him for overcoming so many hurdles, not just a change in attitude but also learning to read to a functional level, being able to sustain focus for longer periods of time and learning to engage with adults and peers in a non-aggressive way. During school lockdown we spent many hours on ZOOM doing the practice learners tests online I think I can recite the questions from memory now. Although he was able to have the questions read to him for the actual test, he was determined to read the questions and answers for himself. When he went for his Learner’s Licence, he passed first time! May I just say I have refused his very kind offer of allowing me to give him driving lessons or let him use my car. On a final note, my boy did work experience through school with a plasterer. The plasterer was so impressed with his work ethic and his actual physical work that he has offered him an apprenticeship next year while he continues at school in years 11 and 12. Wow. From a school drop-out with severe learning difficulties and an I hate the world and everyone hates me attitude to a mature, kind and helpful young man, all I can say is again wow.
