25.01.2022 This year we put a paddock in to crop purely with the intention of grazing it..... we didn’t spray or fertilise, just ran the rest of the seed out in an empty paddock. safe to say the girls can’t keep up! Nothing better for the soul than a lunch time walk with views like this

25.01.2022 Sam had his teeth done yesterday and was very tight in the jaw and heavy in my hands today.... so Equissage and lots of jaw release therapy was in order.

25.01.2022 My coworker licked my elbow while waiting for me to unlock the office door..... and then looked completely unashamed when I gave him a questioning look

24.01.2022 I am sharing this because: 1). Her boots are sweeeet 2). This is hilarious to watch 3). Some of our followers might really like to join.

24.01.2022 We have 2 vacancies in individual yards. Applicants must be: Respectful and responsible. This is a private property with young children. ... Polite and able to mind your own business. Bothering other agistees, borrowing their things without asking etc will result in me telling you to load your horse and go. Drama free. Possibly the most important element. Don’t cause us drama. Don’t cause other agistees drama. Agistment if for a yard, not for me to be at your beckon call. In return, you get to keep your horse at an agistment where it’s expected you will be treated with kindness, respect and not have to deal with other people’s drama. We don’t care how well you can ride or if you just want to lead your horse around and enjoy their company. So long as you pay on time, keep your yard clean, your horse fed, watered and cared for and abide by the rules above. 60x 20 fenced arena Large round yard Full set of show jumps Yards are 20m x 20m with shelter and automatic water $27.50 a week, per horse. Agistment to be paid 2 weeks in advance along with a $50 yard deposit that will be returned if you leave with a clean yard.

24.01.2022 The colours of home.... So many changes over the last few years, some of the biggest within me and how I see myself. I feel like I’m coming back as a stronger, more mature horse woman, wife, mother, friend and all that Jazz. Some times a forced break is exactly what we need to shake off the shackles of other people’s opinions, expectations and judgements. I made an announcement some time ago that something new was coming to Heartwood.... I’ve still got a few months left of 2020 and I’m going to see if I can still make it happen this year!!!!

24.01.2022 Michelle’s horses are super exposed and honest! Any of our followers looking would do well to consider Evie

24.01.2022 Did you know that many horse diets are incredibly high in iron and low in zinc and copper? The balance between these three minerals is so important for the health of our horses and ponies and yet it’s very difficult to balance with a lot of commercial supplements available. Daish Irrigation & Fodder Murray Bridge have just got this supplement in for me. If you’re struggling to get the balance right, I highly recommend you give this one a go!

23.01.2022 Just gonna leave this here....

23.01.2022 It’s been a busy couple of weeks at Heartwood. Both Sam and Allegiance needed their saddles altered. Many thanks to Kym Leske for her wonderful work reflocking both saddles. Grace even had her first ever little jump on Allegiance. My heart was in my mouth!... Our yards are full once again with an influx of wonderful new and returning clients. I’m looking forward to what 2021 brings! Mainly lights on my dressage arena and some obstacle course building..... And maybe doing something with my beautiful Shadow

22.01.2022 What would I do without my Hay net monster helping me out!!!

21.01.2022 3 individual yards now available with shelter, water and electric fencing. 60 x 20 meter dressage arena Show jumping paddock Huge post and rail round yard.... Plenty of space to ride on the 100 acre property or off down the roads. Privately owned family property only 10 minutes from the centre of Murray Bridge. Agistees need to be respectful and polite. We don’t care if you’re an Olympic rider or someone who just likes to brush your pony and take it for a walk. So long as you can get along with everyone and take care of your horse, you’ll find Heartwood a wonderful, family friendly environment. $27.50 per horse per week plus a $50 yard deposit that you get back if you move and leave your yard clean.

21.01.2022 Meal prep at Heartwood..... The feed gets weighed and portioned out for the next week and morning feed slow feeder bags get stuffed while I have time on a weekend. That way I spend about 20 minutes feeding after work and still have time to do the other things I need to! Share your feeding hack

21.01.2022 I am seriously impressed with the improvement in Allegiance’s calmness since I introduced Banana Feeds B-complete. He is getting more out of his feed and seems so much happier within himself. Get into Daish Irrigation & Fodder and speak to Simon about this awesome new product

20.01.2022 First day back in the office and I’m day dreaming about riding my horses and helping Grace develop her riding more... thank god for photos... Tell me about something you got up to with your horse on Christmas holidays?

20.01.2022 Please make sure you’re depositing into your confidence account and stop Making unnecessary withdrawals

20.01.2022 Check out this new page for the Adelaide Hills. I’ve known Carla since I was a little girl and have always admired her ability and character. Check her and Craig out if you’re looking for a coach!! https://www.facebook.com/adelaidehillsequestrian/

19.01.2022 No Mum, I wasn’t stuffing her full of carrots while you weren’t looking..... who can blame him right?!

19.01.2022 Grace had her first little ride on Allegiance tonight. He was so incredibly gentle and considerate with her. I didn’t know he could trot so slow!!

19.01.2022 When you’re taking the puppy.... I mean pony for a walk and he spots the neighbours cattle on the move.... I love where I live and what I get to do. How does life get better than this?

19.01.2022 We are a long way from perfect but it puts such a smile on my face to be back in the saddle.... even if it is blowing a gale!

18.01.2022 How are you all spoiling our ponies for their birthday??? We started our morning with carrots and a good brush in this glorious sunshine.

18.01.2022 Like little trophies sitting in the paddock.... with so much regrowth you could almost cut it again. Well you could cut it again but with over three years worth of hay, we can just let them graze this now

17.01.2022 When your young horse is as gentle as can be with your young daughter....

16.01.2022 I’m not sure where the rain went but a storm certainly looked like it was brewing this morning!

16.01.2022 I think we can all relate!!!

16.01.2022 Got to love getting home and Daish Irrigation & Fodder have delivered a new gate and my feed order right outside my feed shed door! What’s your can’t do without feed or supplement you’ve always got in the feed shed?

15.01.2022 Very excited about my good friend’s new business venture! How spot on is this statement

14.01.2022 Wishing all our clients, friends and followers a happy new year! 2020 has certainly been challenging for us all and we hope that the next 12 months brings a change for the better. For me personally, the last couple of years have been an enormous challenge but I am over the moon to be finishing this year back where I want to be. ... Grace has had her ups and downs with ponies this year and has recently laid claim to Allie (Clare Downs allegiance) The beautiful White Shadows (heartwood leather N Lace) came home and I have finally been able to get back to riding Sam (Cuts Both Ways), possibly more in the last 3 weeks than the last two years! I would be absolutely lost without the endless love and support of my amazing husband, our children and my circle of friends. 2021 is onwards and upwards.... and something new is definitely going to happen

14.01.2022 What better way to finish a crazy week than under the pergola watching some of my horses graze. It’s warm but raining and the dog is asleep by my feet.... how’s the serenity? How did you all spend your weekend?

14.01.2022 If you’re looking for an event to ease back into it, the Murray bridge riding club is running a freshman’s showjumping THIS SUNDAY! Due to COVID Restrictions easing we are now able to make it enter on the day!

14.01.2022 4 vacancies available in the coming weeks. $27.50 per week Facilities include: Large secure round yard... 60 x 20 dressage arena Show jumps Plenty of space to ride on 100 acre property Yards are a good size with electric fencing and shelter. Very friendly, safe environment to enjoy your horses. You just have to be friendly and respectful to come out here. Located under 10mins from Murray Bridge township.

14.01.2022 When you tell your daughter not to let her pony eat the grass while she’s taking him for a walk and then find her sitting on his hay singing to him, pulling all the grass out his hay and throwing it away.... except it’s meadow hay and she isn’t old enough to tell the difference. Gotta love her

13.01.2022 Very reluctantly offered for sale due to rider going in a different direction. Echo is a lovely pony who has previously been used as a school horse and most rec...ently taught my young son to ride. He has done his time being the plodder and is now looking for a confident small teen to enjoy jumping and novelties and a bit of hooning, all of which he thoroughly enjoys. Best suited to a paddock, not a small yard as he does better on grazing than high energy supplement feeding. No history of laminitis. Easy for the farrier, dentist etc. handled by kids. Echo is a forward pony, not suited for beginners. See more

13.01.2022 Looking for a horse for a friend. Around the 15hh mark. Quiet, easy to do everything with. Suitable for pony club, a bit of showing and trail riding. No projects please.

12.01.2022 The best therapy can’t be bought.... My ride may have been short and bareback but my horse looked after me and I still know how to keep one leg either side and my butt in the middle!

10.01.2022 Equine style...

10.01.2022 Non horse people don’t understand.... if it’s going to rain it’s either: 1). When you’re stuck working and you’ve left the cottons on 2). When you’re about to feed up And bet your bottom dollar if you’ve left the cottons on and you’re about to feed, you’ll get more rain than the forecast predicted

08.01.2022 OMG... take all of my monies!!!

08.01.2022 Valid questions.....

08.01.2022 I did not know a horse could do that... Written by Alissa Kelly I did not know a horse could bring people into your life that end up meaning the most to you. ... I did not know a horse could make the hardest days of your life bearable. I did not know a horse could teach you to put others first. I did not know a horse could remind you time and time again that your gut is always right. I did not know a horse could break your heart. I did not know a horse could pick you up when you have fallen a part. I did not know a horse could teach you to dream again, after you thought it was not possible. I did not know a horse could make you pray. I did not know a horse could bring you closer to Jesus. I did not know a horse could teach responsibility, work ethic and dedication. I did not know a horse could make you believe in something when no one else does. I did not know a horse could make you learn to forgive and forget. I did not know a horse could humble you faster than you can say humble. I did not know a horse could make you a winner. I did not know a horse could teach you how to lose gracefully. I did not know a horse could install patience in you. I did not know a horse could make you listen better. I did not know a horse could give you their heart. I did not know a horse could change your life. I did not know a horse could do all these things, but now I know.

07.01.2022 For me, horses mean contentment. What do they mean to you?

07.01.2022 We get caught up on the next level of training, the next level of dressage or height in jumping.... but did you know, one of the best things you can ever train your horse to do is to stop, look and listen? I love teaching the horses to stand and wait. Look at me, focus on me and wait until I tell you where I’d like your feet to go.... And then you will find all the other things come so much easier.

07.01.2022 Grace is learning how to bandage injured legs..... she’s done pretty well for a just turned 7 year old on a 16hh 8yr old warmblood leg if I do say so myself!! This isn’t a particularly nasty injury and I’ve taken care of the worst of it but Shadow is such a tolerant mare and so easy to handle that I took the opportunity to up skill my little apprentice. She did this all by herself!

06.01.2022 I don’t normally share posts like this but Alison is a very dear friend of mine and cherished client of Heartwood. If anyone can spare a few dollars to help out a worthy cause, it would be greatly appreciated x

06.01.2022 This popped up in my memories this morning. Happy 8th birthday Shadow.

06.01.2022 Help a horse and share this! There has been a marked increase in grass affected horses over autumn, directly linked to the increase in rain fall. Fast growing g...rass, particularly after consecutive years of drought can cause a wide range of issues. From rye grass staggers, gas colic and other signs of severe pain ( Kikuyu toxicity), you might even suspect peritonitis or a virus. Other symptoms can be; very badly behaved, head flicking, tripping or dipping in the hind end the list goes on. Please note peritonitis can be tested by your vet (peritoneal tap) and viruses can be tested via a blood test (usually associated with a high temperature). If you suspect your horse is grass affected you can contact me on 0425 743 600 / [email protected] or even better please fill out my online symptoms survey (link below) so I can pin point the most likely cause and help you manage it. 06.01.2022 I woke up feeling not the best but as all horse people know, that doesn’t get you out of morning feeds! So out I trundle with my coffee pick me up to unrug and feed.... and the bloody pony stole my coffee! Who else has a horse with attitude??

05.01.2022 Looking forward to having some nice weather over the coming couple of months so we can complete some planned facility renovations before opening up a batch of vacancies we’ve been holding. So if you’re looking for agistment in Murray Bridge, watch this space :) Up to 8 positions coming up!

05.01.2022 Who doesn’t love bargain hunting???

04.01.2022 Weekly meal prep with my little helper.

04.01.2022 The girls.... when you need a paddock mowed and the weather isn’t machinery friendly.... call in the land whales!

03.01.2022 Vacancies open: Large individual yards with shelter and water Full use of facilities including: * 60m by 20m dressage arena (soon to be under flood lights)... * Large secure round yard * Adjustable show jumps * Plenty of space to ride around the 100 acre property or off down the roads * Shared Shipping container tack shed with lighting. * Regular scheduled dentist and farrier visits * I can generally source bulk hay at good prices * Occasional paddock turnout when feed permits (restrictions apply) Friendly supportive environment that won’t tolerate bullying of our agistees. Located just out of Murray Bridge township. $27.50 per horse per week.

03.01.2022 What do you feed your horses? Cuts Both Ways is on a well balanced and very simple diet to make sure he’s getting all he needs. We often fall into traps of over complicating what our horses are eating with the expectation they want the variety of flavours and textures like we do.

03.01.2022 I was just going to have a little walk, trot ride in the arena to test out how my body would cope.... Sam (the legend) decided a lovely collected canter was required. Lots of room for improvement and a lot of lost strength and balance for me to regain. Is there anything better for the soul than time in the saddle? ... How did you guys spend this glorious Sunday???

03.01.2022 Wishing you all a very happy Easter with your family and friends. We are making the most of the beautiful weather with ponies and motorbikes before a family lunch

03.01.2022 Winner picked tomorrow so don’t forget to comment if you’d like to win a tub to try!

03.01.2022 When your horse is a mud pig and you have an enormous puddle in your driveway.... Samuel, you put the biggest smile on my face. He tried to roll coming back the other way

03.01.2022 I can’t not share this. Who can relate to spring fever???

02.01.2022 This is a must have supplement in my feed shed. I use and recommend a couple of different gut health supplements but this one is top of my list for hind gut issues.

02.01.2022 And that theory is how we came to have 7 horses.....

02.01.2022 Grace took a video of me working Sam but in truth she was videoing everything else with her finger half covering the lens and this is the only part I could salvage.... she was discussing the cycle of life and I did enjoy her little poem Flowers blooming in the grass oh my.... Horses growing older and not changing their size...... The kid is deep and adds endless entertainment (distraction) while I’m working

02.01.2022 And we shall just leave it at that!!!!

01.01.2022 ...... asking for a friend.....

01.01.2022 Seems solid to me!

01.01.2022 yes, exactly this!!!

01.01.2022 A question I’m often asked is what do I feed my horses? Well there’s no one answer that fits all but there are a few basic principles that I apply to all of my horses. Be that the land whales spelling in the front paddock or the ridden horses hiding out the back... 1). FORAGE!!! This is the single most important aspect of any horse’s diet. A horse is designed to have a constant small supply of feed in the digestive system. Without it, ulcers, acidosis, weight loss and all ...sorts of problems occur. Now forage isn’t just a one size fits all topic. I have broodmares spelling on constant access grass, working horses yarded on cereal hay bales and fat ponies living on straw. What they all have in common is a constant supply of that forage. For those on hay, I keep it in slow feeder hay nets so they can pick without gorging. Not everyone has grass and hay can be hard to source in drought years. For those of you in that boat, try to find straw if possible but otherwise, high fibre sources like speedi beet, fibre essentials, fibre protect, Lucerne cubes etc are your friend. 2). Vitamins and minerals Keep it balanced! There are some great choices out there in both powders and pellets. Don’t over load supplements thinking you’re doing the right thing. Too much of a good thing is a bad thing when it comes to vitamins and minerals! 3). Cool energy I don’t have elite athletes. Keep the energy cool, low sugars and starch and you will have happier, healthier horses. If they’re not racing or competing extensively at a professional level, they don’t need multiple dippers of high energy feed. 4). Keep it simple and consistent. Horses don’t need a different meal to keep their taste buds happy! Their tummies want consistent and reliable. You are far better off with a complete feed than half a dipper of this and half a dipper of that with a scoop of this and a scoop of that. My base feed is lupins for a low starch calorie feed and a basic pellet to meet their vitamin and mineral needs. 5). Dental and vet care My horses get their teeth done each year and rotational wormers but only with the change of the seasons. It doesn’t matter what you put in if they can’t chew and digest it without interference. This is by no means the single rule to healthy horses, we all do it a bit differently, but this is what’s working at Heartwood and I thought since I get asked so often, it might help even one of our followers. Photo is two of the land whales in question!!

01.01.2022 It’s been quite a long time since I’ve felt up to working a horse after a full day at the office but today I couldn’t help myself. Tully has been rather full of herself of late and needed a reality check. First photo is a perfect example of the attitude she’s been giving me and the second photo is how we ended. No punishment is needed, just consistent expectations and corrections....

01.01.2022 Holiday fun.... even Lachie likes helping with Sam.
