10.01.2022 Diabetes is the fastest growing chronic illness with 280 Australians developing diabetes every week. It can be very difficult discovering that you have diabetes... but it is important to stay optimistic and take charge of your disease. We want people with diabetes, and the husbands and wives, sons and daughters, nieces and nephews who love them, to take diabetes to heart. If you have a loved one living with type 2 diabetes, we are encouraging you to have a heart-to-heart conversation about looking after their health. If youve got type 2 diabetes, make an appointment today with your GP to talk about what you can do to lower your risk of heart disease. For more information or to book an appointment with our diabetic educator, speak with your GP or our reception desk. www.stanthonyfmp.com.au/diabetic-educator

10.01.2022 The risk of developing bowel cancer rises from age 50, but the number of Australians under age 50 diagnosed with bowel cancer has been increasing.Thats why its important to know the symptoms of bowel cancer and have them investigated by your GP if they persist for more than two weeks. Healthy diet and lifestyle choices, as well as bowel screening can decrease your risk. Evidence reveals quitting smoking, limiting alcohol consumption, and eating foods containing fibre as w...ell as maintaining a healthy weight and engaging in regular physical activity are all beneficial. Bowel cancer screening is safe and easy and can be done at home. It should be done every 1-2 years from age 50. A positive result of the bowel screening test means blood has been detected in the samples. It does not necessarily mean bowel cancer is present but does require further investigation by a GP and a referral for colonoscopy within 30 days.
