16.01.2022 We’ve all had to adapt during restrictions, and our brigades are no different! From recruitment to debriefing to training, our members have been using a range of online platforms to stay connected and keep in touch.
16.01.2022 Spontaneous ignition is the leading cause of haystack fire in Victoria, and just one damp bale is enough to ignite a haystack. There are a number of things you can do to minimise the likelihood of a haystack fire starting on your property, including: Make sure hay is well cured before bailing Know the history of the hay you purchase... Keep haystacks to a limited size Monitor moisture and temperature of your hay regularly Watch for unusual odours - such as pipe tobacco, caramel, burning or musty smells. Keep your haystacks safe as the weather starts to warm
16.01.2022 In May this year, Nary and her family were eating breakfast when they heard a faint beeping noise. Within a matter of minutes, the entire top storey of their ho...use was alight, from a fire likely started by a faulty electrical blanket. Nary’s whole family were able to safely escape with just the clothes on their back, and credit their safe evacuation to having a working smoke alarm. Install interconnected smoke alarms in all bedrooms and living areas, and ensure you test batteries monthly. Only working smoke alarms save lives.
16.01.2022 In recent months we have seen an increase in house fires in CFA areas and sadly across the state, six lives have been lost. CFA and Fire Rescue Victoria are asking all Victorians to know their risks and be prepared when it comes to fire safety around the home.
15.01.2022 An Edithvale resident had a close call yesterday after a discarded cigarette butt caused their bin to catch fire. A timely reminder to always ensure hot ash and... coal is completely cold before discarding. Well done to all crews on scene Edithvale Fire Brigade (CFA)
15.01.2022 FYI - Saturday 28/11/2020 has been declared a day of TOTAL FIRE BAN for the Northern Country, Mallee and Wimmera. No fires are to be lit between 00:01 to 23:59.
14.01.2022 Everyone in Victoria who lives near dense forest, bush, grassland or the coast needs to prepare their property for bushfire. Below are some tips from Captain Ko...ala on preparing your property: Roof gutters - Keep gutters and roof areas clear of leaf litter. Leaf litter in guttering is a ember ignition point. Keep grass short - Keep grass cut to less than 10cm. Fire can ignite and travel quickly through long grass. Mowing and slashing can greatly reduce fine fuel levels. Leaves and Twigs - Get rid of dry grass, leaves, twigs and loose bark. Less fuel = less fire. Prune shrubs -Prune lower branches of shrubs to separate from surface fuels underneath. Prune shrubs well away from branches of mature trees. Cut back branches - Cut back overhanging tree branches close to property no branches in 10m space. For more information on preparing your property please see here: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare #CKDoesSummerPreparation #LessFuelEqualsLessFire #PlanAndPrepare #CleanUpBeforeABushfireDoes
13.01.2022 We would like to give a huge thank you to The Heathcote Community Bank for their donation of $250. The money will go towards a new generator for the Heathcote Fire station. During the fire season we can experience many power outages at the station. If we have a large operation/incident in our area or it’s a high risk fire danger day, the station is normally manned.... During these times the station can be used to house strike teams, cater food for incoming crews and the Coms Room will be manned to run communications to the fire ground. Having no power can make these activities incredibly difficult. The new generator will greatly help serve us and the community. Heathcote & District Community Bank Branch

03.01.2022 Attention Heathcote. We are preparing for the 2020/2021 fire season. Brigade members have been keeping up their skills though online learning but now we must resume COVID SAFE physical training. If you see members training, please be aware that emergency personnel have some exemptions during Covid restrictions.
02.01.2022 Understanding Warnings and Emergency Information You should never wait to receive an official warning before you leave. Fires can start quickly and threaten homes and lives within minutes. Understand the levels of warnings and don’t expect warnings to be issued in any particular order. The first warning you may get could be an Emergency Warning. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrict/about-warnings
