25.01.2022 After the distribution of preferences I received 4443 votes to Brad Crawford's 4308 to become Councillor-elect for the new Cootamundra Ward. The election was a... humbling experience and I commit to work hard for the residents of the Ward and the wider City of Whitehorse. I acknowledge the efforts of Jane Moran and Brad Crawford in putting themselves forward as community representatives. To serve the community in which you live is very noble and I wish them both well moving forward.

24.01.2022 THE MANY CARING ARMS OF NADRASCA Employment, Day Programs, and Housing. Nadrasca is the largest adult disability provider in Whitehorse with over 300 particip...ants and approximately 350 staff, many who are supported employees (have a disability). It is the only social enterprise printer in metro Melbourne employing people with a disability. I toured three Nadrasca sites in Whitehorse today with CEO, Glenn Hodgkin. I was astounded at the range and depth of their offerings. 1. Rooks Road, Nunawading was purchased from Australia Post in 2003. At any one time, it may have up to 110 people working in logistics, warehousing, packaging and national distribution, light fabrication, and printing. If you’ve heard of social enterprise businesses or social procurement, then the services of Nadrasca are what you may be looking for! I used the printing arm of their business for my 7,500 campaign brochures at the last election. Their work was superb and I highly recommend them. 2. Witt Street, Mitcham offers day programs to approximately 60 participants including life skills, art, craft, hydro pool sessions. Today there were art classes and online Zoom karaoke and dancing sessions in progress! Most years they have an art exhibition and works are able to be purchased. 3. The Farm, Vermont is a delightful 8 acre property, leased from DEWLP on the Healesville Freeway Reserve, diagonally opposite Vermont High School in Morack Road. It offers employment for up to 30 participants. In an average month, they would have 20 jobs for contracted gardening including mowing, brush cutting, landscaping etc. They also tend to the vegetables and fruit on the property itself. It is a beautiful place of tranquillity and perfect for those who may need a calm place of quietude. Nadrasca also has 7 homes for supported living, mostly located in Whitehorse. I encourage you to reach out to the CEO, Glenn Hodgkin on phone 9873 1111 or [email protected] for a tour or meeting about how they could assist you with your business. Alternatively, you may have someone in your life who may need a meaningful place of employment, a place to live or benefit from the day programs. Please call phone 9873 1111 for further details.

16.01.2022 Delighted to advise that the Elgar Ward election result was a little less exciting that Trump vs Biden. The official provisional result, I won after a short di...stribution of preferences with 4422 second place got 2088. To the people that put up a yard sign, wrote me an endorsement, to the folk that gave me constructive input to my election material thank you. To the community that have placed thier trust in me, thank you, I wont let you down. The improvements we made to the area in the last term was because of the community efforts. I'd also like to say a massive congratulations to Caroline Cook and Mathew Harris, that both ran strong and honest campaigns and fought hard for evey vote. I hope to have an enduring friendship with Ms Cook, she is a quality person and would make a superb Councillor. I'll be sworn back in next week officially and will get my council phone and IT access back then. Thank you again. kind rgds Blair 'Barks' See more

15.01.2022 WILFUL DAMAGE including graffiti like this infuriates me! The Cochrane Street bridge underpass in Mitcham cops it regularly but this was the worst I’ve seen in ...7 years. On Saturday night, the bridge was covered in offensive filth, to the point I simply won’t post it. What do you think about this type of graffiti? The good news is within 24 hours of reporting it was removed. I don’t know how many other people used the Snap Send Solve app like me yesterday afternoon, but I am grateful for your vigilance. Thanks for caring! I called CityWorks Manager this morning to pass on thanks to his cleansing team. He told me this was the first job of the day. Good job Cleansing Team!

13.01.2022 I extend my condolences to Her Majesty on the death of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. For more than 80 years, Prince Philip was a loyal servant of the Cr...own, his country and the Commonwealth. A great friend of Australia, he visited this country on 21 occasions and served as a patron or supporter of nearly 50 organisations in our country. He also had a profound impact on a generation of young Australians, with more than 775,000 people participating in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award since it began here in 1959. Rest In Peace.

12.01.2022 Putting recycled material to good use. We recently partnered with RMIT, Boral and the Office of Project Victoria with funding from Sustainability Victoria o...n a project to develop a more sustainable concrete product that can be used for footpaths, kerbs and channels. We're trialling various concrete mixes in sections of footpath in Box Hill South. In a 15m section of footpath, there was around 110kg of recycled plastic used, which is equivalent to the amount of plastic waste generated by one household each year. There will be further trials of concrete using recycled rubber with the aim to develop a commercially sustainable concrete product.

05.01.2022 YEAH!! Thank you so much for granting me the honour and privilege of continuing to represent you and residents of the City of Whitehorse, this time in Terr...ara Ward. It was a nail-biting finish, thanks to the challenge put forward by Jarrod Gunn who has earnt my respect and that of many others by running a passionate, honest and clean campaign. He was an exceptional candidate as evidenced in the closeness of the result. Well done Jarrod and thank you for your congratulatory phone call as soon as you knew the result. Your thoughtfulness was appreciated. The distribution of preferences was originally scheduled for Monday morning however was unexpectedly bought forward and conducted yesterday afternoon. As can be seen by the provisional results, distribution of preferences was pretty much evenly distributed between Jarrod & myself, neither one of us benefitting more than the other. Amit’s preferences were distributed first with 138 going to Raylene CARR; 133 going to Jarrod GUNN; and 128 going to Jeff KHAN Jeff’s preferences were then distributed: 616 going to Raylene, CARR; and 610 going to Jarrod GUNN The final total: 4560 Raylene, CARR; and 4165 Jarrod GUNN These provisional results are due to be declared by the VEC next Wednesday 11th November Thank you so much for your unwavering support and encouragement. Your comments have really meant a lot to me. i look forward to working with you for the next 4 years.

03.01.2022 IMAGES OF 2020 - the year like no other! For many of us, this was the toughest year we’ve ever faced. Lessons learnt were appreciating the little things, like a... walk in the park, time with loved ones, breathing fresh air. We became thankful for these things. We adapted, pivoted, worked and studied from home, we changed our way of thinking. Wishing everyone a safe, happy and relaxing New Year. Let’s hope 2021 will be a wonderful year for all! Take care and stay safe!

02.01.2022 It is with great humility, following recent Council election, I was entrusted with the position of Mayor for the year ahead. This is my forth term on Council a...nd third time as Mayor. For the first time in the City of Whitehorse we also established the office of Deputy Mayor. I congratulate Cr Raylene Carr on her election to the position and I look forward to working together during the term.
