25.01.2022 Ive just had my annual mammogram - I love the art they have on the waiting room walls - it's a clever and wonderful distraction. My results are all good (truly grateful) and I just want to use this post as a gentle reminder for us all to look after ourselves. To remember those monthly self checks and if you notice any changes, anywhere in your body, don't be embarrassed, and please don't put it off, have a chat with your doctor, warm hugs H xx

25.01.2022 Today was Marathon 3 of 10 in the month of November for #Workoutforwomen and Ovarian Cancer Australia and I ran in honour of beautiful Kristen an incredibly inspiring young woman whose legacy continues on... One ovarian cancer statistic, that still catches my breath every time I hear it, is that the survival rate beyond 5 years is only 46% Let that sink in for a moment... ... It’s not great is it? But what I am heartened about is that Ovarian Cancer Australia is working really hard to change this statistic. They're raising awareness about the signs and symptoms, they're funding research, and providing care and support for those diagnosed with ovarian cancer and their carers. And I love that their vision is to ensure that no woman with ovarian cancer walks alone - thank you - that’s profoundly compassionate. Now there's 7 more marathons to go in November :) If you’d like to make a donation as a show of support, that would be amazing - and thank you so much to those who have already donated - you are legends! My fundraising page is : https://www.ovariancancer.net.au/my-fundr//heather-hawkins And there is also time if you’d like to sign up too for #Workoutforwomen and set your own health/fitness/wellness goal Register today at https://www.ovariancancer.net.au/events/4/workout-for-women Thank you & hugs, H xx

A perfect beginning to my marathon on Eora country as part of the NAIDOC #RunSweatInspire Festival - such a privilege to be part of this wonderful virtual running event. As I always love to do in every race, I write words on my arms for inspiration - today it was Run Sweat Inspire in honour of the amazing The Indigenous Marathon Foundation and Urban Dingo a tribute to indigenous artist and family relation Lin Onus... So 42.8km run ...today, with purpose and joy. Always was, Always will be H xx The Indigenous Marathon Foundation Virtual Run for the Indigenous Marathon Foundation

23.01.2022 A whole year ago today I stood in the Outback sunshine, close to Uluru, having just completed the most amazing ultra marathon called The Track Canal-Aventure / The Official Page Running 522kms over 10 days with my food and clothing in my backpack. In the desert heat and red dust and beneath a magnificent blue sky (and starry sky in the overnight stage) Simply wow! It was a race with so many other inspiring people, a journey that would take me back through the cattle station... where I worked so many years ago and it was a challenge that I chose to face head on to help my heroes at YouCan Sony Foundation Australia Profound and unforgettable are two words that spring to mind :) So many life lessons learnt simply grateful for so much... Tough but beautiful stuff! Let your feet take you to places and try things that you once never believed you could do for you have it within you. Just give yourself the chance. Start. Train. Never give up. Trust. Believe. And go. H xx

22.01.2022 Today was Marathon 7 of 10 in the month of November for #Workoutforwomen and Ovarian Cancer Australia and today I ran in honour of all women facing ovarian cancer. Every year in Australia approximately 1,580 women are diagnosed. And 13 years ago, in 2007, I was among that number it was a Monday, in February, I was in my doctor’s rooms following a scan, sitting on the edge of my chair and for the very first time I heard my name in the same sentence as ovarian cancer ... Time. Stood. Still. This morning I found myself in this position again, waiting to hear results... sitting on the edge of my chair, in my specialist’s rooms and I am so relieved and grateful to say, my results are all good. My name is in the same sentence as survivor. Filled with emotion I laced up my runners, headed to the park and ran 42km with heart and soul and in honour of all the precious, brave and beautiful women facing this devastating disease. Now there’s only 3 more marathons to go in November If you’d like to make a donation as a show of support and to help improve survival rates, that would be amazing - and thank you so much to those who have already donated - you are legends!

22.01.2022 Today was Marathon 6 of 10 in the month of November for #Workoutforwomen and Ovarian Cancer Australia and today I ran in honour of beautiful Jo a much loved mum who brought so much warmth and life to her community, she was a truly lovely soul It was forecast to be a hot one today, so I started out early in the soft dawn light and in among the drifting mist... it was really beautiful... and cool and serene I’m so grateful for the support that Ovarian Cancer Australia pro...vides women and their families and carers - with face-to-face/telephone/online access to ovarian cancer nurses from the point of diagnosis which brings clarity, hope, comfort and a precious sense of connection at a time when it is needed most... Now there's only 4 more marathons to go in November! If you’d like to make a donation as a show of support, that would be amazing - and thank you so much to those who have already donated - you are legends!

22.01.2022 Today was Marathon 1 of 10 in November for #Workoutforwomen and Ovarian Cancer Australia and it’s also a very personal, emotional quest Today I ran in honour of my dear friend Beth All these long kms and all this energy and effort comes from a burning hope within to bring change and to help save women’s lives. For running is my voice, and I am a grateful, impassioned survivor. Let's speak about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer so survival rates can increase, and let...'s raise funds so the quality of life and the medical treatments available for women who’ve been diagnosed can be vastly improved Mothers, sisters, daughters, partners, friends... I promise I’ll keep running for them 9 more marathons in November... and then beyond If you’d like to make a donation, my fundraising page is : https://www.ovariancancer.net.au/my-fundr//heather-hawkins And there is also time if you’d like to sign up too for #Workoutforwomen and set your own health/fitness/wellness goal. Register today at https://www.ovariancancer.net.au/events/4/workout-for-women Thank you & hugs, H xx

22.01.2022 Today was Marathon 4 of 10 in the month of November for #Workoutforwomen and Ovarian Cancer Australia That's 168.8 km in the past 8 days - no wonder my legs were running on the tired side. But my heart’s still strong and my resolve isn't wavering I promise I will see this challenge through. Today I ran in honour of beautiful Bridget a brave, strong and lovely soul ... Another ovarian cancer statistic, which stops me in my tracks, is that 75% of women are diagnosed in advanced stages which sadly means the original tumour has spread... But on a positive note, and in the hope to change this statistic, Ovarian Cancer Australia has a number of really helpful online resources available - one of them is The Symptom Diary - which not only contains valuable information but also enables you to keep a record of any signs and symptoms you may have, so you can take it with you to your doctor’s appointment. It’s available to download for free via this link https://www.ovariancancer.net.au/page/134/signs-and-symptoms So now there's only 6 more marathons to go in November I'm nearly halfway! If you’d like to make a donation as a show of support, that would be amazing - and thank you so much to those who have already donated - you are legends!

21.01.2022 I might just have signed up for a new, crazy, phenomenal challenge with this awesome team And even though its a virtual event, it will actually involve a whole lot of running - infact 50,000kms of it between the 10 of us in the next 12 months or so. Yay! Bring it on! Start date will be on the 1st of September.... So come and follow our journey across the continents and poles (all as we run around our backyards and neighbourhoods!) and as we race against other teams from around the globe and have some fun along the way. Ill be posting regular updates here on my page as the race unfolds, and please check out our team page CRAWlers too. Perhaps now would be a good time to invest in a new pair of runners H xx

21.01.2022 Right now Im steadily training for the upcoming IAU 6hr Virtual Global Solidarity run on the 29th - 30th August. Happily mixing up trail running at the park, with road running to the city and with a sprinkling of sand running at the beach. Im really grateful to have an event to be focusing on at this time and to be sharing it virtually with an awesome Aussie team. As you know, I always love to factor in purpose so heres my plan.... For the entire 6 hrs Ill run in a 4km clockwise loop, so that my GPS map will spell out the letter O in honour of all women diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. For facing ovarian cancer was one of the toughest challenges Ive ever had (far harder than running for 6hrs straight thats for sure) and every single day I have on this planet I know is an added bonus. Currently, the statistics for survival still catch my breath - Every day in Australia 4 women are diagnosed and every day 3 women are lost But we can help bring change : Become familiar with the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer (see pic) to facilitate early diagnosis. Share this info with family and friends. And if you can, please donate $6, to match the number of hours Ill be running, to Ovarian Cancer Australia for their amazing work - fundraising link below Thanks so much for your support everyone. hugs, H xx https://give.everydayhero.com/au/heather-hawkins

20.01.2022 Today was Marathon 8 of 10 in the month of November for #Workoutforwomen and Ovarian Cancer Australia and today I ran with a big 'thank you' on my arm, and a heart filled with gratitude, for all the medical staff who go above and beyond to help to save and improve the quality of life for women with ovarian cancer. To all the nurses, family doctors, surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, researchers and medical support staff. You are Super heroes. Life savers. Ang...els. Wonderful human beings - all of you! Thank you for your compassion, your skill, your care, for being there during our toughest times and for doing everything you possibly can to save our lives. As my surgeon gently said to me as I lay prepped for surgery Heather you’ve walked into a storm... but I’ll be with you and I’ll bring you all the way through. And he did. He gave me a second chance at life. Mine is only one story among so many Thank you medical staff We owe you so much. So now there’s only 2 more marathons to go in November If you’d like to make a donation as a show of support, that would be amazing - and thank you so much to those who have already donated - you are legends! My fundraising page is : https://www.ovariancancer.net.au/my-fundr//heather-hawkins Thank you & hugs, H xx
