25.01.2022 Www.heathfieldpollmerinos.com HPM 19028 seems to be enjoying his work. 28 is one of our most valuable rams. Combining a great carcass with muscle in the hind quarters ,long stapled wool around 18.2 u with very well defined crimp and heavy cutting ability. His progeny from his first joining last year are exhibiting great early growth and body shape. 28 is in with 138 ewes which should produce a great crop of lambs .... Single sire mating is always nerve racking if a sire breaks down during joining so to make sure all ewes are covered we combine several single sire mobs for the ewes last cycle. Now it's a case of being patient till we see lambs on the ground. See more

20.01.2022 www.heathfieldpollmerinos.com/rams-and-ram-sales HPM 19029 is a selected ram we will be offering this coming Thursday 24th of September. 20.1 micron, 3.2 SD, 16.1 CV, 99.4 comfort factor, 104% GFW compared to his peers when shorn in the 2nd week of April this year. 29's appeal is in how well he stands being very correct along with his in-built doing ability. He has a very plain body and breech.... Our 12 month old rams have done very well since shearing after the most challenging summer I have experienced. I have not seen the quality of clover with bulk that we have this year and we believe this has led to out rams testing stronger in the wool than would normally be the case. We will negotiate a price on 29 starting at $2,500. 29 has 12 brothers in our sale team of his easy doing type. He is a genuine 2 year old ram born in September 2018 and was brought into our stud sire team. We are in two minds about selling him but will listen to offers. He has been completely paddock run with no special attention at all and really needs to be viewed in person to appreciate his qualities! He is a very correct ...sheep with amazing white waxy extremely well put together wool. He spent 3 weeks wet in August this year with no effect at all on his wool. Shorn 3rd week of April this year. Test results from August 2019 were fd 17.5 , sd 3.2 ,cv.18.5 , cf 99.5 (measured on the pin bone not mid side). We have only just decided to market him hence no current tests. Slightly slower maturing than our other sires. 19.01.2022 Pete and me having a look around this morning enjoying the rain . We planned and built some strategies for managing the flock going forward . Who would have thought last summer how much abundance we would have now . With the world in a mad place it brings home how good it is to be on the stationette . Sheep prices are through the roof due to historically low numbers and I have quiet confidence in the wool market continuing to improve . From our point of view it's pleasing ...to see the premiums for fine micron wools and the gap price between the micron categories seems to be reverting to historical trends . Our long term focus has been to breed sheep which have high fertility leading to plenty of surplus sheep to sell as well as having high quality fine micron fleeces on sheep which cut very well . 18.01.2022 Www.heathfieldpollmerinos.com Why Heathfield Polls? Well... a little about us and what we do... We base all of what we do here on building more profitable sheep year on year. Commercial reality has always driven breeding direction at Heathfield for the last 30+ years. We reckon our (and your) ewe base sets the basis for profitability when running a self replacing merino enterprise and this is the reason we have worked tirelessly for so many years to this end.... We take the view that our sheep must be robust and have doing ability without the crutch of being made lazy by having self feeders in every paddock. We expect our sheep to reproduce and be efficient converting pregnancies to lambs on the ground and strive to further improve on this each year. We expect our ewes to cut highly valuable fleeces each year through having fine micron wools of very high style and long staple which cut heavy and suit most environments. We expect our ewes to provide the numbers of lambs each year to let us cull heavily to further increase the genetic gain we are achieving while also allowing the flock age to remain young and allow for more valuable surplus sheep sales. We expect our ewes to be calm and stay with their lambs and not be old school run away merinos. While our sheep have evolved over the years and will continue to evolve into the future, always with a type in mind, it has led us to the point of offering high and consistent quality flock rams for sale which follow the traits we find are important for profit. We usually shear our sire team twice a year with the second shearing period used to put them all on a level playing field so we can determine by fleece weighing ,micron and yield testing as well as looking at progeny results who gets a jumper for next joining . This year we decided to take them through and August has proven a great challenge with all our sheep being soaking... wet for over 3 weeks straight .If any of the team hasn't stood up to that test they are off the team ! Same goes for when the ewe hgts are classed in October. We breed sheep which suit our needs so you can be confident they will suit your needs . These top dozen rams will have their influence over around 850 of our best ewes. We always look to get the best correlations when joining rams to ewes. Profit and building even better sheep is always forefront in our thinking .... The key profit drivers we see are having sheep which are versatile with options in how they can be used to maximise $. The highly heritable traits of high fertility and fercundity, early maturity ,good carcass coupled with excellent wools which are fine long stapled ,weather proof and with excellent crimp definition are what we continually strive to build on . Even though the season looks to be in abundance we need to make sure we can provide adequate nutrition to the weaners over summer by quickly being able to get them onto supplementation. We will continue to trail feed untill at least 90% of the lambs have their heads down eating from the trail . This might take 10 feeds but worth the effort . We feed 200gms of barley to each ewe each feed .... Its a lot of work but well worth the effort to produce good weaners . We captured this video this afternoon of our 12 month old sale rams and thought they were looking good in the bright sunshine. We could prattle on about how we've been working on our ewe base for over 30 years with constant and consistent effort to improve profit making traits. We could also dribble on about how we look to breed balanced sheep which have plenty of lam...bs (5 year average lambing 108% to ewes joined with always one third maidens) and cut plenty of wool at a fine micron (adult ewes average 6.2 kg at 17 micron). We could bang on about the quality and style of our wools that command attention in the sample box at auction and how our sale rams spent over 3 straight weeks wet in August this year (128mm from the 7th till the 24th) without breaking down. You might not believe us when we tell you how happy our ram clients and surplus sheep clients are with our sheep.
