25.01.2022 Sale days coming up on 12 & 13 November!

24.01.2022 Thursday Throwback: Here is the Year 12 cohort from 1983. At the formal, you would have been dancing to Michael Jackson's Billie Jean and Beat It, Irene Cara's Flashdance, Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart and the Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)

23.01.2022 Thursday Throwback: Many of our teaching and support staff have enjoyed long associations with Heatley Secondary College as this photo from 2001 demonstrates. A feeling of belonging is as important to our staff as it is to our students. "Taking the time to build community, to get to know your people, will have long-lasting benefits" Clifton Taulbert

23.01.2022 Congratulations to the Class of 2020 on completing their senior studies. Year 12s had a full week of activities last week, including Graduation on Wednesday night, their Senior Farewell on Friday morning, then their Formal on Friday night. The courtyard looked magical, as did all our young men and women dressed in their finery. As a surprise, students were ferried to the Cyclone Shelter by way of the Heatley-branded bus! We hope that we made your final events as special as you deserved, considering all the accommodations that had to be made due to a global pandemic in your final year. Photos will be published in the next newsletter. The Townsville Bulletin also had a photographer shooting the arrivals.

22.01.2022 Our Senior Farewell is a reflective ceremony to say goodbye to the departing Year 12s, witnessed by the remaining cohorts. Graduates have a long-held tradition of taking off their school shirts and throwing them into the basketball hoop, demonstrating the shedding of their high school life as they move on to the next part of their lives. They do this as the school hand bell rings, signifying School's Out for this group of students.

20.01.2022 There's still time to enrol your Year 6 student but don't delay, the Regional Transition Day is next week!

18.01.2022 Well done to our Year 10 Heatley Pride Sport Academy girls volleyball team who challenged Bowen State High School in Bowen last week. The girls performed exceptionally well, producing their best performance so far. Unfortunately BSHS won the day by taking the best-of-3 competition 2-1. Well done girls! Mr Seymour and Ms Frecklington-Sant were very impressed with your performance! The skills of our Sports Academy volleyball team has improved greatly throughout the year with al...l players being skilful in their execution of the fundamentals. We look forward to building on this in 2021 with more opportunities to compete against schools in Townsville and the wider NQ region. 2021 promises to be an exciting year for our Heatley Pride Sport Academy volleyball students to further develop and extend themselves! Students wishing to be considered for any of the Sports Academy programs should submit an application form to Mr Brown asap.

18.01.2022 Today we received the awards from the Showcase 2020 Awards for Excellence in Schools. On hand for the People, Culture & Country presentation were: * Project Manager, Christina Papadimitriou * Regional CEC Coordinator, Aunty Joan McKay * Assistant Regional Director - Grant Dale * Regional Director, Lyal Giles... * Deputy Director General, Peter Kelly and HeatleySC Principal, Murray James. We are very proud to have been the base school for this regional project. The student creations, the care in the presentation of their wearable art, and the support of all involved to bring this project to its final culmination have been outstanding. #heatleyproud

17.01.2022 Our STEAM Academy students have begun one of their core objectives of the Academy: to ensure all students have access to the latest technology. This week, they have been teaching a number of classes how to use the VR Headsets, and giving teachers and students a taste of what is possible in the future. Here we have Ashlee and Josh leading a Year 8 class in Virtual Reality taster. We will also be sharing this technology with our Year 6 into 7 students at the Regional Transition... Day (today). The VR Headsets were purchased under a grant supported by Federal MP for Herbert, Phillip Thompson OAM. Last week, Phil spent an hour with the Academy members discussing their goals and ambitions beyond school and how they will utilise this great resource. The Academy members gave honest viewpoints on how advantageous these would be in not only preparing them for their future, but enhancing the curriculum of everyone at the College. Thanks again to Miss Estri for helping the students set up and learn how to use the Headsets, and the students who have used their free time to become VR experts. #heatleyproud Phillip Thompson OAM MP - Fighting For Townsville

13.01.2022 Construction update: Our PAC (Performing Arts Centre) has a roof over the entrance and the walkways are being connected into P and S Blocks. Internal rooms are at various stages of painting - thank goodness for scissor lifts! External cladding of the rear of the building is still to come. Work is also progressing on the aircon plant room (not shown). The four new I Block art rooms are following a similar timeline with paint, and the outdoor kiln area is starting to grow ou...t of the ground. These rooms will replace those currently being used in N Block (still unsure about its future). With the rain earlier in the week, moving around some areas of the College was much easier thanks to the new covered walkways. Whilst the overhead connections between H, I and B may not be finished until sometime in Term 1 2021, the remaining ground walkways will provide much needed rain and sun shelter between almost all blocks of the campus.

12.01.2022 Drop into Kmart Townsville to view the Stars girls’ artwork

We hope everyone had fun today, and can't wait to see you all next year! If your student hasn't enrolled as yet, there is still time this year so they can start on Day 1 2021. Pick up an enrolment package from the office or give us a call on 4726 8333 asap.

07.01.2022 This week, STEAM Academy students began using virtual reality (VR) headsets. Students are really having fun with these extension activities. We asked students the following questions: What do you want to more of in the STEAM Academy program? Long range drones or remote controlled planes with an experimental purpose - Jed; Dissections, Crystals, and Creating worlds in VR Chelsea. What do you like about Science? The practical experiences in the lab, being able to get ha...nds on - Ashlee; Chemistry, it’s the best science - Josh. Looks like we have some keen scientists in the making!

07.01.2022 Thursday Throwback: This week marks the final week of school for our 2020 Year 12s. Throwing back to1990, this was Year 12 cohort with then Principal, Wayne Stewart, in the open air sports hall (M Block).
