24.01.2022 We've all gone through periods in life when we don't take care of our body, and we become run down and exhausted. Our skin is one of the most powerful early indicators that our physical and mental health are fatigued even though we may not be feeling or realise it. Skin fatigue is directly linked to many lifestyle factors, such as long working hours, lack of work routine and work-life balance, poor sleep routine, lack of vitamin D and exercise, a diet low in iron, worry, anxi...ety, fear and numerous environmental conditions. After a while, these contributing factors begin to break down our skin's barrier, causing a subtle but noticeable difference in how it looks and feels. A few early telltale signs to look out for are - Perioral dermatitis. Dullness. Dry and sallow skin. Enlarged pore size. Inflammation and sensitivity. Dark circles under the eyes. Skin breakout. Poor skin healing. Pigmentation. So why does this happen? Due to stress, our adrenal glands release cortisol our stress hormones which heighten skin problems. This further makes our blood vessels more reactive, shutting down the blood flow to vital organs of the body such as the skin. In turn, this reduces the collagen in our skin, impairing the skin’s repair mechanism resulting in skin fatigue. If you have the symptoms of tired skin; you can regain back, a healthy complexion with mindful life changes. Take time to practice self-care, as tricky as it may address your most significant stress factors and seek professional help if you need a little helping hand. Get a good night's rest, and be mindful of the food and alcohol you're consuming. Establish a good skincare routine, with the correct products for your skin; there's a vast difference between chemist/supermarket skincare and professionally prescribed skin products by a skin therapist. Please reach out if you're in need fo help and advice with your skin health, and we can get your skin glowing in no time. Lindy X

22.01.2022 A wonderful, insightful post below by Stella Muse. Please take the time to read it and let her words sit with you. As women, we should be supporting, educating and empowering each other. Not standing in judgment with superior woke behaviour against fellow women. Lindy X

18.01.2022 One of the most beautiful feelings in the world is giving. The positive energy we feel by giving to another is contagious. With just one little act of unconditional care and kindness, we can all inspire and encourage each other to go out and sprinkle seeds of happiness through giving, too. Lindy X #beabetterhuman

17.01.2022 There's a recurring question I get asked regularly when clients purchase skincare, and that's how long will it take for my skincare to work. Like anything in life, we go after fast results and expect to see a dramatic difference instantly. But like the curved lines of the picture below the timing of skincare is NOT linear. Many variants come into play with skincare use such as your skin type, genetics, internal health, hormones, skin texture and of course, what is it that you...'re actually trying to achieve. Most things that appear on your skin won't magically disappear right away; however, you can get a healing momentum going as soon as we identify what the issues are. This is why purchasing skincare from a professional is essential as you get the correct advice and products for your skin. So, how long should you wait to see a difference in your skin with skincare? Realistically if you've has skin issues for an extended period such as acne, eczema and skin sensitivity you will also need to address your internal health with a practitioner as to why this is happening as well as using targeted prescribed skincare for a number of months to see a visible difference. The best thing to practice is consistency as consistency, along with patience, will give you results. With skincare routines, trying out multiple products or waiting for something to change, you must wait at the at least, 30 days to see a subtle difference and some products may take a little bit longer to show results. Please be kind and gentle to your skin and to yourself and try not to get frustrated. Skin repair, no matter how big or how small, takes time. It takes effort, commitment and consistency. Be patient as skin rejuvenation is not quick, so with a little assistance, the correct products and a little for gratitude for your body, you'll get results eventually. Lindy X

16.01.2022 Our body is a fine-tuned machine, and all parts matter and work together, including our skin. A hotchpotch of skincare and googling can only take you so far if you have issues with your skin. Your diet, general health, hormones, allergies, gut health, hydration levels, skin barrier issues all take an integrated approach when treating the skin. You may need to work alongside a skin therapist, health practitioners such as a TCM doctor, a nutritionist and even a medical doctor to build a picture of why you have skin issues. Remember your skin is a reflection of your internal health, mental health and lifestyle. Please get in touch if you would like to start your healthy skin journey with me. Lindy X

15.01.2022 Let's chat about iodine. To have healthy skin, it takes a combination of various factors, and as we know, there are specific vitamins and minerals that we need to include in our diets to achieve this. Iodine is a mineral that you may or may not take much notice of, unlike most vitamins and minerals; iodine is pretty much always ignored and forgotten about. Yet it shouldn’t be as its an essential micronutrient for our skin health as it regulates our hormones, thyroid and the ...function of other cells in the body. Our thyroid gland in our throat uses iodine to make thyroid hormones; these hormones control our metabolic rate and aids in the functioning of our immune system, all of which we need for a well-balanced skin. A deficiency of iodine often presents as a skin that has poor healing; barrier impaired is dry, flaky and rough to the touch as we need this mineral to help our skin cells regenerate and regulate the skin’s natural moisture levels and most importantly for skin repair, healthy nails and hair growth. When looking at our daily diet - foods from the sea, animal-based foods, seaweed(kelp), potatoes, dairy, eggs and other plant-based food and ionised table salt are rich in iodine. If you're seeking any form of health advice on your iodine levels or with any other health issues; please make an appointment to discuss this with a trained health professional so they can safely guide you. 15.01.2022 I've moved studio locations several times throughout the years, and each space is always decorated and renovated slightly differently from the next. Yet, the one thing that forever remains is this white picture frame which holds a simple quote on kindness. It remains to remind those that visit the studio and myself that by practising kindness, it allows us to move into the present moment and connect, reminding others, and ourselves, that we are never alone in this world. Lindy X #worldkindnessday

12.01.2022 There's a lot of skincare ingredients that give rise to a lot of healthy debate in the skincare industry. As skin care professionals, we all hold different views and opinions on formulas, ingredients and the benefits which they offer to skin health. There is a staple ingredient that has remained relatively overlooked in the last number of years in favour of other fady ingredients, and that's enzymes. For those not familiar - What are enzymes? They are derived from individual... plants, fruits or through a fermentation process. When applied to the skin enzymes, unglue the sticky micro bonds between our dead skin cells, which causes the skin to slough off. What makes enzymes such a fantastic ingredient is they do this without disrupting the skins Ph, protective barrier and preserve our skin microbe. This why using enzymes is so beneficial to all skins, especially, those with sensitivity, acne, pustular rosacea, comedonal acne and pigmentation. Unlike chemical acids that can potentially possibly cause damage to the skin barrier enzymes are more gentler but equally effective on the skin. If you would like to chat more about the correct enzyme-based products for your skin, get in touch, and I assist you in getting your skin glowing in no timelink in my bio. Lindy X See more

12.01.2022 Hello lovely people, please take the time to read the below important post. You may or not be aware that beauty salons are mandated to stay shut until the 23rd of November at the earliest. This will of been an eight-month shutdown of salons in Melbourne. Our industry represents thousands of workers and business owners, most of whom are women. For many of these women, they have lost their sole income for themselves and their families. We need this issue to be given more consi...deration by the state government as unlike many industries, we have not been able to trade with a reduced capacity, as we cant provide take - away treatments. Please be kind enough to take a few minutes to sign the BELOW PETITION to enable beauty salons to be reclassified to align with hairdressers and retail store to reopen on the 26 th of October 2020. We need your support for our voices to be heard. Thank you in advance to those who are kind enough to sign the petition. Lindy. X

11.01.2022 For those, who like me, are feeling anxious, confused, overwhelmed, and unsettled with this uncertain time, we are facing here in Victoria. Take a minute to sit down and breath, as fear is an awful emotion. Sending much love, hope and kindness to anyone who needs a little extra today. Lindy X #kindnessandsupport

09.01.2022 As you are aware today in Australia, it's @ruokday, and globally it's Suicide Prevention Day. The global pandemic has affected us all in different ways and brought new or increased mental health challenges for many. This is why the difficult conversations are usually the ones we need to have the most. Talking about suicide is not easy, but choosing to be silent is not the answer. This is a human issue, and we need to open the door for better conversations and the normalisatio...n of treatment for mental health in our society. Suicide can affect anyone no matter of our race, socio-economic background, gender and age. No-one is immune, and we all need to play a part in recognizing this by learning not to fear talking about it. If you are worried about someone talk to them directly. If someone starts to share how they are feeling, listen with empathy and no judgment. If you're struggling yourself, as hard as it may be, please reach out to someone. You are worthwhile. You are not alone. Life can be messy sometimes, but it does get better, the sun always rises in the morning after a long hard night, life is full of sad and happy moments and the happy moments will come sooner and faster than you imagine. Never forget the world is a better place with you in it. Lindy X #inthememoryofthosewelosttosoon See more

09.01.2022 Hello, lovely people, it's the start of the new week, and here in Melbourne most of us are trying to find our new normal. For some, they appear to be taking this rollercoaster all in their stride, and others are not. I know I keep banging on about this in posts, but this is why we must stay supportive of others as much as we can because the next six weeks will really hurt all on both a personal and business level. If people are struggling offer assistance or share a contact, you have that may be of some help to them. Let's build each other up, not down. Everyone's feelings and concerns are warranted no matter of their circumstances. Please, remember that our power lies in reaching out and helping each other out. Lindy X

09.01.2022 Cleansing your skin wisely is one of the essential parts of a skincare routine. It's also the part of a skincare regime that can damage your skin daily if you are not using the correct type of cleanser(hello, coconut oil and skin wipes). When you start your skin journey with me, many of my clients are surprised that it’s actually a cleanser, not a moisturiser or serum; I send you home with to start using, this is due to using the right cleanser is the foundation to having a b...alanced skin for all skin types/skin issues. A little explanation why for those who may not realise that cleansing your skin with the correct product is vital - Over cleansing with the use of the wrong cleanser strips off our skin barrier components, e.g., proteins, natural oils, and natural moisturising factors. This disrupts the skin’s function, leaving it dehydrated and more susceptible to external stressors, UV damaged, pigmentation, bacterial growth, acne and unexpected skin sensitivity. It also reduces our skins capacity to heal and repair its self. The correct cleanser should gently get rid of the natural grime our skin collects without disturbing the skin. Your skin should never feel tight, angry and look blotchy after the use of a cleanser if it does it's not the correct product for you. If you would like to discuss finding the right cleanser for your skin, please get in touch, and we can arrange a virtual/phone skin consult, or you can shop online at The Organic Therapist at Home to find an array of gentle skin cleansing products. 09.01.2022 Hello, lovely people, just to let you know ONLINE bookings are now open and available. As mentioned in a previous post, there are a few changes to the booking times. When you go to book online you will be offered the following appointment times to choose from these blocks are - Tuesday to Friday 9.30 am, 11.30 am, 2 pm, 4 pm and Saturday 9.30 are, 11.30 am and 2 pm after hour bookings are available, by request only. I know this is a bit different; and a few people have voic...ed their, opinion on this change. However, this will enable the studio to run more efficiently and for me to have a little work-life balance something that has taken me 26 years of practising as a skin therapist and a lockdown to see what was missing from my life. GIFT VOUCHER HOLDERS PLEASE READ. If you hold a gift voucher which was valid during the lockdown bookings are now closed until January 2021 as the studio can currently only financially service one voucher a day after such a lengthy 8-month closure, all these spots have been filled for each day until the end of the year. Please call if you have a voucher to secure a time from January onwards or join the waitlist to use in December. Can I also please ask for you to have patience, all vouchers will be honoured. Thank you to those who have been kind and supportive of these little changes it's very much appreciated. I really can't wait to see all your lovely faces again. Lindy X

08.01.2022 If you're in Victoria, I'm sure you’re aware that the state government has extended restrictions and it's looking like beauty salons will not reopen until 23rd November. Today has been a hard day, and my heart is heavy. I miss seeing your faces, our lovely chats, treating your skin, and I miss my daily routine of preparing the studio for a day of skin rituals. These are challenging times for every one of us, and I send love and kindness to you all. We are often viewed as a ...superficial industry. At times the beauty/skin industry is not taken seriously, however, for many, we provided things such as nurturing care and human touch something essential for our wellbeing or a solution for the acne sufferers whose self-esteem and mental health that has been ruined by cystic acne, ..... the list could go on. We will reopen our salons soon, in the meantime, you can help to support your local salon to enable them to reopen their doors after what will have been an eight-month shutdown. If you’re in the position to do so and you need to replenish your products, please buy directly from your local salon's website or call them directly. Book in for virtual skin consult not only will your skincare be prescribed to your skin needs, but you will also be supporting a small business(unlike mecca, Myer etc.). Even when your finances are looking a little shaky, it’s possible to help by following your favourite salon on Instagram and Facebook, and taking the time to like and interacting on their posts. A busy, social media presence helps keep our businesses relevant and raises constant awareness during the lockdown, and we may attract a few new clients for when it’s all over. Remember salon/facialist accounts are also an excellent source of professional information and advice. In the meantime, until I see your faces again and looking on the bright side, I guess I now have the time to perfect my choux pastry making skills(something I've meant to do). Love Lindy X

08.01.2022 Sending a little extra kindness and love out to all my hairdressing friends and other small business who will be pressing pause and closing their doors this evening for six weeks here in Melbourne. Please take heart many of us know how you may be feeling, especially us in the beauty industry in Victoria as we are currently on our second mandatory closure. You may feel anxious, fearful, angry, sick to the stomach on how you will cope and will things ever be the same again. Ho...wever, at the same time, you are relieved the decision to close was made for you. All I can say is take a deep breath, have a good cry, if you need to and give yourself a little time to rest and get your thoughts together. The current situation we are facing is challenging, and as difficult, as it is, there is always a positive to be found in a negative. Reach out to those around you, and talk to people. We’ve got this, and when we don't, we have each other. Love Lindy X #supportsmallbusiness See more

06.01.2022 I believe this should apply to all our relationships in life, whether it be business or personal. Lindy X

05.01.2022 Hello lovely people, thought I'd say hi and fill you in on a few changes coming for when the studio reopens on the 24th Nov. Like many, the last eight months have been a rollercoaster of emotions and changes for myself. However; it's given me the liberty of time to reflect on realising how physically and mentally exhausted I was and how fearful I was of changing the status quo in my small business in case clients would complain/not return. It also made me realise that we can...'t please everyone and that's ok. So what are these changes? 1: The salon is now located in a beautiful new location in St Kilda. 2: When you request to book an appointment, you will give a choice of times to choose from these are Tuesday to Friday 9.30 am, 11.30 am, 2 pm, 4 pm. Saturday 9.30am, 11.30am, 2pm. Treatments are booked in 2-hour blocks, and evening appointments are available on request only. 3: There has been a pricing increase, something I had been so fearful of doing for years. Unfortunately, this may not please the odd person. If you do choose to visit for a skin treatment, I do, however, have 26 years experience, extensive knowledge, and can assist you on your skin journey in a kind and caring environment. 4: In the coming weeks, a new business name will be revealed to reflect the new direction of The Organic Therapist. 5: For all those lovely people who have been in touch to use your gift vouchers. Can I ask you to be patient and flexible? All gift vouchers will be honoured and expire dates extended. I will be accepting one gift voucher booking a day as there is a backlog of appointments after such a lengthy shutdown. Please be kind, patient and don't send me abusive emails as a few have done. 6: I look forward to seeing your faces and get back to doing what I love. I've missed you all so much. Lindy X

04.01.2022 A little follow up on yesterday's post on the importance of using the correct cleanser. Thank you to those who read the post and reached out to enquired what products I recommend and use professionally in the treatment room. For those who aren't these beautiful cleansers are a game-c...hanger for all skins, even my oil phobic clients who have been previously hesitant to use an oil-based cleanser have been coverts to these nourishing herbal cleansing balms. Head online to The Organic Therapist At Home to purchase your jar of cleansing balm; the link is in my bio. Your skin will thank you for it . Please get in touch if you need a little help with selecting a suitable cleanser for your skin type. Lindy X

04.01.2022 Kind words from a lovely visitor to The Organic Therapist. Lindy X Lindy makes you feel calm and comfortable in an instant. She's wonderful at what she does, but it's so much more than a facial, it's a beautiful mind and body experience. I leave her studio with not only my skin feeling glowing, calm and clean but also feeling super relaxed, and rejuvenated and ready to take on the world. Lindy can make a bad day go away - the warmth of her personality is like a big hug, and the detail she goes into for your skin is so thorough and considered, you really feel like your issues and concerns are being heard and understood. I look forward to my appointments with her because I know I'll leave my treatment the absolute best version of myself. Sophie

04.01.2022 For my fellow Melbourne beauty and skin therapists. We will get through this; It's been a stressful 48 hours for all of us, but never forget we're a close-knit industry, we've supported each other through the goods times, and now it's time to come together and help one another, through these last challenging three months before we can reopen our salons. If your struggling, please reach out to chat. I'm a good listener, so if you need anything, I'm here. Lindy X #saveoursalons

02.01.2022 Beautiful words that are just too beautiful not to share. It really is the little things that lead us to our purpose. Lindy x Imagine @momentaryhappiness

02.01.2022 Today we are emerging back into everyday life of what has been a difficult 112-day lockdown for the people of Melbourne. For many of us, the gradual easing of restrictions brings longed-for opportunities to visit your nearest cafe, retail store; beauty salon etc and even see a friend in their home. Yet, let these beautiful words be a reminder to you that many of our neighbours/friends/family on the streets where we live will be struggling to adapt to our new found freedoms. A...s many of us have done during lockdown for others, we still need to show up, be supportive and present in others lives. Our situations are unique to us; it is essential to try not to judge and become frustrated if others are not ready to open their lives up. Everybody is facing uncertainty mentally, and emotionally after this harsh lockdown, we need to be supporting others who may be struggling to adapt to our new found freedoms, not judging them. 02.01.2022 Hi, lovely people take a moment in these times we are living in to pause and smile(through your mask of course ) and share some kindnesswith your fellow human. Wordsof kindness, areto often overlooked; however, they are an essentialpart of growth among all living species. With the above, words in mind, I'd like to thank those people(you know who you are), for your loyalty, support and kindness during the studio's closure. It's definitely been a testing time. Hopefullynot much longer and we can see each other again. Love LindyX

02.01.2022 This week here in Melbourne/Victoria has been filled with uncertainty and fear. We are all feeling the collective fall out from last weeks change in restrictions, and the emotional burden people are carrying around with them because of all of this. Isolation, uncertainty and loneliness are well-documented causes of psychological distress, yet it can be challenging to verbalise how we feel to others for various reasons. The onus is on us, as a community, to ensure that everyone feels accounted for. No matter what another's circumstance are, no one should warrant more kindness and compassion than another or be made to feel that their worries are not valid. Every human is a part of our society, and everyone should be heard and cared for. Lindy X #choosekindness Imagine @shoplovesimply

01.01.2022 Little science lesson below. So what is dopamine? It's a neurotransmitter made in our brain. Which is a fancy way of saying, it acts as a chemical messenger between our nerve cells(neurons) and our brain. Dopamine plays a vital role as it's involved in our feelings of reward, motivation, memory, attention and regulating our body movements. When dopamine is released in large amounts, it creates lovely feelings of pleasure and happiness. Low levels of dopamine are linked to A...DHD, depression, concentration, motivation and decreased enthusiasm. Physically dopamine aids in our, blood flow, digestion, sleep, heart and kidney function and regulating our nervous system. But, keep in mind dopamine doesn't just act alone it works hand in hand with other neurotransmitters and hormones, such as serotonin and adrenaline. So, how does dopamine affect our skin health?. . : Dopamine improves the recovery of the skin barrier. Which is why when you are experiencing low mood periods in your life, uncertainty and anxiety, your skin can experience issues due to low dopamine levels. : Dopamine increases the supply of blood to our skin through microcirculation stimulation. This way when we feel the emotion of love all of a sudden, our eyes shine, and the skin begins to radiate with heath Our emotions produce visible changes in our behaviour, physical appearance, and facial expressions daily.. . In addition to keeping your mental health in check, eating well and using proven therapies that increase your dopamine levels such as TCM (acupuncture), the use of Clay-based products and massage is vital to increased levels of dopamine during professional skin treatments as they increase skin circulation, resulting in a radiant skin. Remember, glowing skin starts within. LindyX See more
