25.01.2022 Welcome to the best time of year to be a rider in Australia. Temperatures in our favourite part of the world are warmer than they were last month but we havent yet reached those scorching summer days. Life in print is just as good. Goldfinger points the way on the cover along with Paul Bailey and Micks CVO Comparo. Are they the greatest H-D CVO Road Glide and Street Glide yet built? Of course they are but you need to have a read to see who prefers one bike over the other. F...ormer publisher and good bloke Brum built himself a Heritage Classic. The Essendon footy fan had to paint it black and red, and just had to title it Project Bomber. Hes injected a generous dose of blackness into this glorious bike. Flicking through the mag youll soon find the poster and Australias first nine-second Bagger. Thats Alpha Performance Engines Mark Harris on his 143-cube FLHRXS. Flip the poster over to see Bikecrafts latest Rocker build a truly great bike that shows off Brads building skills. From the cover, Pega Custom Cycles Goldfinger custom V-Rod shines in the hues of Root Beer and Gold. Craig Pattison threw his leg over a 2020 H-D Ultima Limited for our first Quick Spin. Not a test but a quick spin, a bit like a test ride when youre buying a bike. From the sunshine state, Dave Cohen smuggled out pics of a foster fail from Gasoline Alley. The builder fell in lust with his Breakout build and now calls it his. Theres also the Ratster, a first-up build from second-generation builder Jack Magarry from up Brisbane way. Further north is Mt Isa and a beaut Bobber built by Dave Schraag. The Benaraby All-Bike Drags happened with lots of smoke, noise and general mayhem. Another drag racing refugee by the name of Mark Grant has a killer Dyna Wide Glide. Well worth a look while youre flipping pages. Displaced Aussie Phil Heath spent A Day in the Saddle exploring Auckland and the local hills. A group of Shovel-heads held a Shovelfest and Knackers lobbed in for that one. Not forgetting our first instalment of Project Interceptor where Mick and friends make it breathe deeper and stronger. Doc Robinson hasnt been idling away in his shed. Nope, hes brought us some excellent Tech Torq questions and answers as well as walking us all through M8 cooling and venting options. All of this and more. On sale 4th September, 2020.

25.01.2022 Riding home after fitting the S&S Cycle, Inc. camshaft to the Royal Enfield Project Interceptor was a grin-fest. Still a 650 but with the help of Will from Royal Enfield Sydney / Revelry Cycles, it feels as though it has a stronger mid-range. Freeway overtaking is even easier. Next week well be back at Sydney Dyno Pty Ltd to measure and prove. Mick

24.01.2022 Earlier today I took up Gasoline Alley H-D's offer to come and have a Saturday Morning Coffee at their on-site café. Apparently the numbers attending were down somewhat because: A. They heard I was coming :-) or B. There are a number of events on around SEQ this weekend - rallies and rides etc.... Even so, there were plenty of folks in at times and it was good to meet up with quite a few regular readers again - and to be introduced to several owners of really nice Harleys. Some of which I'll be working to feature in the Mag. Here's some 'run and gun' photos from around the store. Thanks to everyone who agreed to be photographed. Legends. I've got a bit of video to edit next job. Dave.

23.01.2022 As if you needed proof that Harley-Davidson riders have always been cool may I present . . .

22.01.2022 You've only got a week left to score a copy of HEAVY DUTY #171 from your local newsagent. Grab a copy now before they're all gone.

21.01.2022 NEW STUFF ALERT - Forged Roller Rockers for M8 Valve thrust and valve train wear in big lift cam applications drove the S&S engineers to design stronger, more ...durable components that will help you get the most out of your M8 and first on that list was Forged Roller Rocker arms. Our new rockers are stronger, more durable, and designed to be easier on the rest of your top end. Oil routing is updated and is now sprayed directly on the valve springs, helping cool and lubricate these hard-working parts. Compatible with stock or most CNC ported heads and featuring a 1.640 Ratio, capable of up to.650" valve Lift. An essential mod for increasing the longevity of your valve train components particularly with cams running and making big reliable power. This has always been what S&S does best and the new Forged Roller Rockers are a solid addition to our M8 performance parts line! For more details check out this link to their site https://www.sscycle.com/M8-rocker-arms

19.01.2022 Why does Mick keep calling his 2020 FXST a Superglide? Actually, its full name is Project M8 Superglide, so-named because he really likes the style of the late '70s and early '80s Superglides and is planning to create a modern version. Check out HEAVY DUTY 174 for more info.

18.01.2022 Don't blame the posties for late delivery of your mail. They are working under extremely stressful conditions. The blame lays further up the greasy pole of management.

18.01.2022 We have installed the new Bassani Xhaust Performance 2-Into-1 Bagger System on our 124 FLHR 157.90hp 151.29ft lb Great finish/build quality and sounds min...t. This pipe has stepped equal length head pipes, 1 3/4 into 2 into 2 1/8. Its been designed for M8 Engines with 140 plus HP. Awesome pipe but I think we need more motor to make the most of it..Short Stroke 133 maybe Thanks to Joe at KPR Industries for supplying the exhaust. If youre planning on building a hi output M8 bagger, Joe has a few more of these systems on the shelf .

15.01.2022 Great story! Watch and leave a comment

15.01.2022 Harley-Heaven Rumble Podcast, Show 23 is now available, and it's one of our best shows yet! For show 23, we wanted to do something a bit different, rather than us talking about certain bikes, we decided to speak about the culture that comes with Harley-Davidson Motorcycles. Harley-Davidson is an icon that's captured the hearts and minds of generations. The word "Freedom" is something that gets thrown around a lot with Harley-Davidson, but what does it mean?... How did such a strong culture of freedom and adventure grow from a motorcycle company? Mick & Ben dive deep into this one, and its a really good chat about how the brand survived through some difficult times, and what the brands means to both of them. We then dial in Jake & April Morris, two Harley enthusiasts who set off for a six month trip around the world, but three weeks in, had to come home due to Covid-19. Instead of calling it quits, the couple flew to Cairns, bought a second hand Ultra Limited and took off one epic adventure along the East Coast of Australia. To us, this is what Harley is all about, and they have a great story to tell. Lastly, the new 2021 Harley-Davidson New Products Catalog was just released so we go through that and talk about whats new for 2021. The Screamin Eagle 131 Crate Engine for Softails is just one of the products that has us super excited. As always, we answer some listener questions, and have some great products to give away, thanks to Harley-Heaven Online. We hope you enjoy this one as much as we did putting it together. Listen now on Spotify and all Podcast apps. #WeBuildRiders

13.01.2022 If you're waiting for your copy of OUR BEST M8 to arrive, here is an example of the service we receive from Australia Post. This is going from St Clair in western Sydney to Toowoomba, Qld. We pay extra and send everything from our office with tracking. If we didn't have proof, we'd say that this was bullshit.

10.01.2022 This Saturday is All Bike Day at Willowbank Raceway. 28th November, 2020. Stop wondering how tough your bike is, get it on track and find out. We're putting up a pair of one year HEAVY DUTY Magazine subscriptions for the quickest and the fastest street-registered Harleys (If both achieved by same racer then second subscription goes to the second quickest). We'll have a photographer taking pics and have a feature planned.

09.01.2022 In this ever-changing world, BMW are having a crack at building big twins. Still trying to work out how you're gonna get your feet on forward controls.

07.01.2022 You guys familiar with the King of the Baggers race? Here's the premise, a handful of industry leaders are building the ultimate performance baggers and racing ...them at Laguna Seca on October 23-25 of this year. Giant bikes, massive power and the storied Laguna Seca facility should make for an epic event. Naturally, we're supporting a bunch of the racers and building one of our own. Check out our progress with the Indian Motorcycle Challenger as it evolves from the touring machine to a track monster. #kingofthebaggers #indianchallenger #indianmotorcycle #sscycle See more

05.01.2022 After a week off, the Harley-Heaven Rumble podcast returns and Show 24 is now available! Have you ever wondered why people refer to Harleys as "hogs?" The answer goes back a century and may surprise you. For those who missed Doc's explanation in HEAVY DUTY 171, have a listen.... We then talk about three very underrated Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, the 2011 XR1200x, the 1983 FXRT Sport Glide and the 2006 VRSCR Street Rod. As always, we answer some listener questions, and have some great products to give away, thanks to Harley-Heaven Online. Thanks for listening to our show, we appreciate the support. #WeBuildRiders

04.01.2022 HEAVY DUTY founder Chris Beattie just found this pic of current editor Mick Withers. Taken at the 1993 Townsville All Bike Meeting, Mick was having a ball on Larry's Heritage Softail. Must be an old pic -- it was printed black and white, and his beard has colour in it.

03.01.2022 High performance Harley-Davidson pioneer and genuine legend Carl Morrow of Carl's Speed Shop has passed. He had strong connections with Australian Harley performance from the '80s onwards.

02.01.2022 G'day, I've had private messages from people asking about the intended modifications on Project Interceptor. Will from Royal Enfield Sydney / Revelry Cycles has already been a wealth of knowledge, and we're not finished yet. As it stands, the breathing capabilities have been finessed quite nicely. For now. There is no substitute for cubic inches. Or cubic centimetres for younger readers. S&S Cycle, Inc. offer a variety of high compression piston kits in 650, 750 and 865cc. No...ne of what we've done so far will need to be replaced for a bigger engine. The PowerTRONIC - Plug-In Performance ECU, DNA High Performance Filters, Revelry Racing headers, and S&S Cycle camshaft and mufflers will all work well with any future mods. Before taking it over to Sydney Dyno Pty Ltd next week, I'll give Project Interceptor an oil change and pour in fresh FUCHS Silkolene Australasia. Next on the list is a suspension workover in conjunction with Teknik Motorsport. Andreani Cartridges will replace the fork internals and give full adjustability. A pair of Heavy Duty by Teknik shocks are on the way. Again, lots of adjustability. If your inside leg measurement is on the shorter side, you can order these shocks in custom lengths. Mick See more
