25.01.2022 Who says cattle yards arent environmentally friendly? The Galahs and the Corellas think our water troughs are great drinking holes where they can all sit around and have a chat in the afternoon.

22.01.2022 With TC Veronica about to hit the Pilbara coast somewhere between Port Hedland and Roebourne we have secured everything that we can in preparation for the worst (hoping for the best). Stay safe everyone and we will see you in the other side when the sun is shining again and the grass is growing. Best wishes to all.

20.01.2022 An inspired choice by Michael McCormack MP to choose Senator Bridget McKenzie to be the first female Agriculture Minister. HED knows that Bridget will work alongside our cattle and sheep export industry to make sure that farming families and communities continue to thrive and prosper. Bridget is welcome at our yards anytime she likes (hopefully they will be full of cattle )! Congratulations to the National Party of Australia on securing a fantastic win and warding off the pu...nishment that would have been wrought on the entire Australian Ag industry by a Federal Labor Government. 19.01.2022 ALEC member Otway Livestock Exports delivered these Australian feeder cattle and sheep to Israel this week. In the past 12 months, Australia has exported 70,000 cattle and 75,000 sheep to Israel.

19.01.2022 These boys really love their end of day pellet feed. It means that they go to bed full and content, knowing that they get another pellet feed just like this first thing in the morning and some hay, with another pellet top up around lunchtime as well. 3 square meals, fresh water and a sleep out with their buddies each day.

19.01.2022 Pre-work hazard identification and assessment discussion underway this morning.

19.01.2022 Just a quick post to quieten the gossip factory that is suggesting that the feedlot will not be ready for shipments anytime soon because of the damage from TC Veronica. The damage was only minor, cosmetic and mostly to the accommodation. The yards themselves only sustained minor washout and erosion damage. We will be in full swing when exporters look to ship cattle from Port Hedland soon. Everyone is looking forward to seeing plenty of the superior quality cattle that the Pi...lbara is quickly becoming renowned for. 17.01.2022 CATTLE INDUSTRY DOING CARTWHEELS OVER LIVE EXPORT DECISION Yesterday the Federal Court found the Commonwealths 2011 ban on live cattle exports to Indonesia wa...s invalid. Paul Brown from the Hedland Export Depot says his business was crippled overnight by the ban, and exports from the Pilbara have never really recovered. When the decision was announced yesterday morning he jumped for joy, doing cartwheels around the feedlot. "I think its a day of celebration for the northern cattle industry," he said. The Federal Courts decision means the Government must pay court costs, and substantial damages, which are expected to be more than $600m.

17.01.2022 Well perhaps our little feedlot should be considered famous now that we have got a mention in Herd on the Terrace in the The West Australian.

17.01.2022 Something a bit different from the usual cattle, cattle, cattle today at the yards. We had to get the big boys in from HHI to lift off a 12 ton roll of conveyor belting from the port which we will use for feed bunkers in the feedlot extension.

13.01.2022 We have a lot to be very thankful for here at the Hedland Export Depot. TC Veronica did her level best to wreck everything but fortunately we only sustained water damage to buildings and the yards, all of which can be repaired or replaced easily. Plenty of days on the front end loader replacing and levelling dirt and a bit of elbow grease to clean, mop and rearrange the accommodation units and all it will be good again. We were luckier than some.

12.01.2022 Thanks Veronica for the the blow wave and rinse but its time to pull the plug and let all the water out. Were not sure if the new look is going to catch-on though. 10.01.2022 Weve taken a bit of a gamble and ordered a crop of maize silage from Shamrock Gardens for feeding out at HED. So we took the opportunity to pay a visit to it yesterday to see how it was coming along and we couldnt be happier with the results. This will be a wonderful lower cost, high protein alternative feed for pastoralists and exporters looking to value add weight gain to their cattle prior to export in our yards. 06.01.2022 There is no better time that right now for pastoralists and governments to be investing in the development of irrigated agriculture across our pastoral estate to grow the economic contribution of agriculture to our regional communities. Diversity is the key to driving regional development and creating new jobs to make our communities sustainable for the future.

06.01.2022 This was such a great project to be apart of, I not only learnt a great deal about the industry by creating this video, I also experienced the great resilience ...and passion by those who work it. 06.01.2022 Bettini Beef are always evaluating the way we do things. We are constantly refining our grazing management to be kinder to the environment, so that land can imp...rove and not degrade. Over the last few months we have erected a fence along the western side of the De Grey River to keep cattle away from the fragile riparian areas along the De Grey River bank and aid in controlling the Noogoora Burr weed. Before the weekend we shifted all of the cattle into the newly fenced areas, out onto the floodplain, where we have new water points to allow for better grazing distribution. After going for a fly this morning I see that our efforts last week were a waste of time, as a vehicle has driven through our property to go fishing and left a gate open. The gate even had a sign PLEASE SHUT THE GATE. I wish people had more respect and would ask for permission before coming onto our property, and would at least shut the gates behind them. As now we have to muster and move the cattle again, as a lot of them have walked back through the open gate to where they are NOT supposed to be. Helicopters and staff are expensive to operate, not to mention that the land and plants on it are supposed to be having a rest. All the growing plants are trying to recover from the summers grazing need this rest to stay healthy and to retain ground cover. The river systems on De Grey Station also have infestations of Noogoora Burr, so anyone coming onto the property without approval and asking where its ok to go, run the risk of spreading this weed throughout the Pilbara. So please, a little courtesy goes a long way! ABC Pilbara Kimberley Pilbara Cattlemens Association Pilbara District - WA Police Force Town of Port Hedland
