After attending a mining expo, Founding Director Ian Hedley was able to go onto an Indonesian mine site to discuss a safer way to access and egress from large mining equipment. 11.01.2022 THROWBACK THURSDAY. People talk a lot about innovation, and it's true, Hedweld does have an innovative culture. But today we would like to highlight the role of 'Perseverance'. Pictured here is Hedweld's first custom built Workshop Tyre Handler, official launched at QME before being sold to Goonyella Riverside in 1994. However, due to a union demarcation dispute it never went into service. Hedweld decided to park further product development until the late 2000s. There were m...any iterations to improve, adapt and incorporate advancements in materials and technology. In 1994 the biggest truck on the market was a CAT 789 so changes had to be made to handle the larger tyres used on the ultra-class trucks. In 2013 the Workshop Tyre Handler was re-commercialised and the second unit was sold to a mine in Mexico (19 years after the first sale) and since has had success all over the world. As ANZAC Day is this Saturday, we would like to commemorate the late Sergeant Ian (Si) Bulmer Hedley who served with the 2/3 Australian Infantry Battalion from May 1942 to Dec 1945. He returned to the Hunter Valley from two active tours of duty in New Guinea, married and had a family. One of his sons Ian, then built Hedweld to the company it is today. Ian said Dad was always my mentor and gave me a lot of good advice over the years.
