25.01.2022 It’s comments like this that absolutely makes me love what I do. Renovating and building can be so stressful and feelings of overwhelm and decision fatigue are real if you try to take on too much yourself (as a homeowner). Ever heard of the term you can’t pour from an empty cup? When you’re exhausted from work/life/family duties etc. sometimes the last thing you feel like doing is making a decision on lighting/paint/flooring/benchtop/tapware, among a long list of other t...hings. Lucky I love making decisions about these things and working with my clients to ensure the process is an enjoyable one. 24.01.2022 Cushions are some of my favourite things. They are the finishing layer of any space. I make them, so naturally I have way too many, but I would argue that there’s no such thing. Invest in good quality inserts and swap out the covers every now and again for a change of scenery. Invest in good quality fabrics and you’ll have cushions that you love and will hold onto forever @bechaycraft ... #cushion #cushioncover #cushionlove #throwcushion #homedecor #homewares #investinquality #love #pattern #colour #style #art #interiordesign #homedesign #interior #photography #lovemyjob #interiordecor #dreamhome #interiordecorating #interiordesigninspo #interiordesigncommunity #melbournedesigner #interiordesigntips #interiordesignstudio #melbourneinteriors #melbourneinteriordesign #interiordesignereltham #hehedesign See more

24.01.2022 A calming material palette reminding me of holidays and trips to the coast. Seems like a distant memory at the moment - this Melbourne lockdown is really starting to get to me. 21.01.2022 New blog post - find out why I strongly believe Interior Design is a necessity, not a luxury. There’s so much more to what interior design is than just the glitz and glam, and the finishing touches. I don’t just add the cushions to your sofa; I make your home work for you. 21.01.2022 I love how the simplest of changes like a touch of paint and the refining of soft furnishings can create such an impact. How deliciously moody is this? Now the sweet trim details on the door stand out, and how about that happy maiden hair fern?! This dark grey tone has an underlying warmth to it and was just perfect for this little TV room. Can’t you just imagine cocooning yourself in front of a roaring fire, with a nice glass of red and a good movie or book!? 20.01.2022 Today one of my favourite mugs broke. It was beyond any form of kintsugi. It was smashed to smithereens (the joys of tiled floors). I was sad, because it wasn’t simply a mug - it had a story to tell. I had picked it up on one of our road trips through Australia and I know exactly where and when I got this mug, and every time I used it I was reminded of these memories. I could have simply bought it and put it in the cupboard, too scared to use it in case it broke. But al...as, I used it, I loved it and now it’s no longer. And that’s ok. I guess the moral of this story is to not simply pack away your precious/favourite items never to be used for fear of them breaking. Think of the joy and memories they hold and can remind you of on a daily basis. Wouldn’t you rather that as opposed to only having these memories every time you move house (and find them in the back of the cupboard), or the one time in a blue moon that you decide to use them? If they break, they break. There’s always something else to collect and another story to be told #sentimental #memories #favouritethings #theseareafewofmyfavoritethings #storytelling #precious #coffee #coffeemug #pottery #potteryobsessed #memorylane #style #art #interiordesign #homedesign #interior #photography #interiordecor #dreamhome #interiordecorating #interiordesigninspo #interiordesigncommunity #melbournedesigner #interiordesigntips #interiordesignstudio #melbourneinteriors #melbourneinteriordesign #interiordesignereltham #hehedesign See more

19.01.2022 New blog: Luxury or Necessity? Interior Design is for everyone.

18.01.2022 It’s amazing what paint can do. Seriously, it’s one of my favourite ways to create an impact and fast! Swipe for before the ghastly wall colour and wallpaper trim, with an interesting approach to highlighting the pressed metal ceilings My clients wished to update this old house and white trims were a must. Colours for this home were selected with the stained glass windows in mind, and we picked colours and tones that complemented these gorgeous existing features. We... also selected new carpet to complement the grey undertone in the paint colour. More to come on this one. Can’t wait to see this in person when lockdown is over! #colourconsult #colourconsultant #colourconsultation #colour #painting #paintpalette #colourpalette #interiorcolours #interiorcolourscheme #style #interiordesign #homedesign #interior #photography #lovemyjob #interiordecor #dreamhome #interiordecorating #interiordesigninspo #interiordesigncommunity #melbournedesigner #interiordesigntips #interiordesignstudio #melbourneinteriors #melbourneinteriordesign #interiordesignereltham #hehedesign @ Lake Wendouree See more

18.01.2022 A close up of the lovely splashback tiles that feature in our temporary kitchen reno (still deciding if I’ll use them again in our actual reno!?) These were perfect for the space, as the subtle fleck in the tile glaze ties in with the era of the home and appeals to my love of texture and visual interest! We used the existing splashback footprint which was quite low under the upper cabinets, so the vertical application of these tiles helps to visually increase the height of this space. I love the change it’s made, and this is definitely my favourite feature in this little kitchen update. P.S. Don’t look too closely though - we didn’t bother to finish off the top of the tiles

18.01.2022 Words like this genuinely make me so happy to do what I do. I can’t stress enough that interior design is for everyone. There is no greater satisfaction than working together towards an end goal; to create a home that serves you and your family well, now and into the future. 13.01.2022 A little snippet of a before and after for a COVID home project that I realise I never revealed. A super cost effective update to the existing kitchen, with some basic upgrades and otherwise very affordable updates to completely change the look and feel of this space. Thank goodness we did this when we did, because there was only so much of the red benchtops, corrugated tin, and metallic splashback that I could handle, especially seeing it every. single. day. This mini makeover is to tide us over before we rip it out to start all over again when we renovate. I will do a blog post soon detailing all the changes we made and some tips and tricks! Sometimes you just need to give what you’ve got a little love! It’s not much, but it’s amazing how much of a difference it has made to living in our home

12.01.2022 Spatial planning and layout is such an important tool in interior design. 1. It helps to figure out the best layout for the room (balance) 2. It helps to figure out what items can actually fit and where (scale) 3. It establishes important structural requirements such as data outlets and GPOs (function) It’s such a critical step for determining what furniture you should use/purchase e.g. 2 seater vs 3 seater sofa, what bed size you can fit to still ensure you can have bed...side tables, where the best location is for custom cabinetry, whether a round/square/rectangle table works better, whether a 6,8 or 10 seater table can work with sufficient circulation space around the table. It also helps to determine lighting and electrical plans, amongst other things. There’s so much to consider and it’s such a critical step to ensure that you don’t end up sacrificing functionality (eg. How you live and move through the space), and making poor purchase decisions, ultimately spending money on items that just don’t work in the space, or not having power points to change laptops/phones where you need them, or adequate lighting. If you’re planning on building or renovating, working with an interior designer (me!) is an integral part of the process. I design homes considering how my clients live and move through their spaces, meaning I sometimes need to make tweaks to floor plans that have already been drafted to ensure the floor plans reflect the day to day lives of my clients. I work to understand the intricacies of how my clients live and function at home and work to provide the best practical solutions to assist with everyday routines and needs. 12.01.2022 Colour has such a profound impact on our emotions and our lived experience, whether we’re consciously aware of it or not. There are positive and negative traits of all colours, so finding the right hue is key. The rich, moody colour palette for our Beechworth project is the perfect match for my lovely client

09.01.2022 Choosing coloured cabinetry is something that brings me some serious job satisfaction! I will always speak highly of the wonders of having colour in your home, and cabinetry is a great way to do this while keeping the bones of the home neutral. I decided to use a deep green colour on the lower cabinetry in our mini kitchen refurb and the colour really lifts the space. This was the perfect choice to work alongside the existing conditions of the house, namely the (awful) 30x30cm terracotta look floor tiles straight from the 90s! I couldn’t imagine any other colour working as well as the green does in this space! What’s your fav colour to see in a kitchen? - by @gemmacarrphotographer
