25.01.2022 This week at HEI schools we celebrated National NAIDOC week. The children enjoyed painting the art of the Aboriginal mobs. The art is centered on story telling. Art is used as a chronicle and to convey knowledge of the land in the authentic indigenous story telling. With the great weather outside today the children enjoyed painting the art of NAIDOC on black paper and using cotton buds. The colours used where white, black, red, and yellow. Some of the children used cotton buds to create the dots on the paper while others used their finger's. The children have gained and will continue to gain great experiences and knowledge of NAIDOC week.

25.01.2022 It is spring time!!! The Prekindergarten and Kindergarten children have had a discussion this week on what spring means to them. It gets warmer and sunnier, and all our plants start to grow. We will keep a special watch on our vegetable garden. Please remember: we are a sun-smart centre. Please remember to provide a sunsmart hat and sunscreen if your child can not use the one provided. We have enjoyed the sunny weather with Thursdays and Fridays session being run outside. The childrens Hei time on Thursday consisted of a zoom meeting with other HEI Schools children, who are learning from home. It was lovely to see faces that the kinder children have missed during the lockdown.

24.01.2022 Everybody Dance! Physical exercise is an important component of the infants day whilst at HEI Schools Emerald. The children move their bodies in time to the music and copy some of the dance actions the teacher shows them. ... Kinistetic learning is one of the three major forms of learning for both adults and children. Having opportunities for the children to explore themselves through their body, can help them to develop a different way of learning and expressing their feelings.

23.01.2022 This week the 2-3 year old children experienced painting with beetroot juice. The children used their creativity to explore a natural form of painting, exploring the smell, taste, touch and sight of the juice. The children incorporated all their senses for the ultimate sensory art experience. The children all had different opinions as they tasted the beetroot after doing their paintings, some thinking it delicious and some twisting their face at the unique taste. What can you find at home to paint with?

23.01.2022 On Wednesday, we celebrated Remembrance day. This week we made poppy's for remembrance day. The children drew circles or carefully used the bottom of a can to draw and cut their own circles to add to our poster. We had discussions early in the week on what is remembrance day and why. We had discussions on family members who have fought in the war, some grandfathers, great grandfathers fought in the war. We talked about the poppys that were in the fields and we place poppy's as a sign of respect and remembrance for those who died. We had a minute silence and listened to 'the Last Post' and had a minute silence as we paid our respects to soldiers.

17.01.2022 Todays HEI Schools Home activity is called This is my neighbourhood. This is a good activity for the life in the lockdown as we have possibly become more familiar with our neighbourhood and close surroundings. This activity supports your childs linguistic skills, improves creativity and creates sense of belonging to the local community. Have a discussion with your child about your neighbourhood and encourage your child to ask questions from you as well. You can approach ...the topic and spark conversation with helping questions such as: What color is your house? / How many doors does your house have? / Do you know the names of your neighbours? / Do you know the name of your street? / What do you see on your way to the HEI schools? / Can you name a store located in your neighbourhood? / Who works in your neighbourhood? What are their jobs? / What do you like the most about your neighbourhood? After the conversation, tell your child that they are going to draw something about the neighbourhood. It can be a place, building, person or whatever they want to draw thats related to their own neighbourhood. Display the drawing to show how much you value your childs artwork. https://www.home.heischools.com/home/ HEI Schools Home Access free preschool activities and routines at home. Designed by Finnish teachers and backed by research, the activities are fun and easy to do! www.home.heischools.com

16.01.2022 This HEI Schools Home activity is called Which one? This is a great activity for supporting your childs hand-eye coordination and concentration skills. It also gives opportunity to identify right and left. All you need is a pen, eraser and this "Which one?" worksheet. Tell your child that today you will do a fun pen and paper activity. Introduce the "Which one?" worksheet to your child. Explain to your child that they need to trace the lines with a pen. First they can pra...ctice tracing the line with their finger. Ask your child if they know which one is their right and which one is their left hand. Give your child a pen and guide them to trace the line first using their right hand and then their left hand. Once your child has finished the task, move to the second part of the worksheet and guide them to color the hand which was easier to use. Have fun! See more

13.01.2022 At Hei Schools Emerald, sleep/rest time is a key component of the curriculum to ensure that children are well rested throughout the day. In the Infants room, sleep/rest time is catered for each childs individual needs. The environment is designed for furniture to be portable therefore allowing adaptability for each childs sleep requirements. The educators design this routine around the needs of each family to ensure a seamless transition from home to care. Natural lighting can also be adapted to suit the environment. A calming space is created through gentle sounds/music and diffusers with Tasmanian lavender oil.

10.01.2022 The Kindergarten children love writing letters and drawing pictures, especially when they get to give them to their friends. Recently the children were very excited to receive a donation of old cards and envelopes- perfect for them to gift to their loved ones. This week we decided to make a mail box to put our letters in. The children painted and decorated a cardboard box accordingly, excited and enthusiastic about what they were going to create. Since the Post Box has been... completed the children have created letters for their parents, family, friends and even their pets, finding great joy in posting them in the mailbox. We are practicing recognising and identifying the different letters of the alphabet, writing letters to people and practicing our social skills as we share generosity, happiness and curiosity to others in our Hei School Emerald community.

05.01.2022 Spring is here! That means we get to enjoy the warmer weather in our outdoor environment and engage in water play. This week in the Wombats room we have been doing just that, experimenting with water and having lots of fun. Its not only a great way to cool off but it has its many educational and developmental benefits. We used containers of warm water and the children took their shoes and socks off to enjoy the feeling of the water on their feet for a valuable experience w...hich fostered their senses. We began just using our feet to feel and kick the water around but the children had other plans in mind. Putting their own spin on the experience the children began splashing away, sitting in the water, kicking their legs and throwing the water around. They even took it upon themselves to include bark and balls into their play (demonstrating their individual creativity and initiative). The children absolutely loved it, playing and splashing around in the water. We will continue to incorporate water into our weekly programs in various ways. The children really enjoyed participating in such a simplistic experience, only requiring containers, water and a little imagination.

04.01.2022 This week, in the Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten room, they have completed their fathers day gifts! They hope you like the pen holders they have created for you. They worked really hard all work, decorating and painting them. The children have also been exploring their problem solving skills through completing diferent puzzles. Taylah had a few requests to find some new puzzles, so she bought the box of puzzles out of the storeroom for the children to select from. The chil...dren chose the puzzles they wanted to do and worked either by themselves or with others to complete the puzzles. The children are using these skills to find pieces of a puzzle that match. They are learning the different types of pieces of puzzles, such as, corners and edges. The children are learning persistence as they continue to move pieces to make a whole picture. Once completed, the children gain a sense of accomplishment and confidence. The team of educators from the kindergarten and pre-kindergarten programs, wish all fathers a Happy Fathers day.

03.01.2022 Good afternoon families! Todays HEI Schools Home activity offers your child opportunities to explore opposites with the use of different senses along with opportunities to practice verbalizing their observations. You will need opposites that you have chosen such as ice and warm water (cold and hot), sugar and salt (sweet and salty) and wool and stones (soft and hard). Place the materials/ingredients on display. ... Invite your child to sit next to the table where you have placed all the needed materials. Ask your child to describe what they can see on the table. Name all the materials out loud, together. Guide your child to describe which sense is usually used to explore the materials/ingredients. Encourage your child to explore the materials and describe how they feel/smell/taste/sound like. Guide your childs attention to the opposites. You can introduce half of the materials (e.g. two opposite pairs) and after that, only half of the pair and encourage your child to guess the other half. For example, if you have salty salt here, what could be its opposite? Allow your child to explore the materials freely and encourage them to describe their findings.

03.01.2022 The children in the Wombat Room have been exploring colours and shadows this week. The children made different coloured torches using recycled cardboard rolls and cellophane, selecting the colours they wanted to use. They used the torches on the wall and floor, chasing them and making shadows with their hands on the wall. The children incorporated their love for colour and imaginative play while exploring shadows and light. Do you have a torch at home? I wonder what types of shadows you can make?

03.01.2022 Todays HEI Schools Home activity is called cleaning day. We have noticed that children are great helpers and love to participate in the everyday activities! This is a great way to practice everyday skills and take responsibility of the common space. Tell your child that today it is time to clean your house. Go through the to do-list you prepared earlier with your child. Show your child how to use the cleaning equipment, for example how to wet the cloth with warm water and twist it dry.Encourage your child to choose one cleaning task from the to do-list. When your child has completed a task, guide them to cross it out on the to do-list. Once you have finished cleaning acknowledge all their hard work and thank your child on a job well done.

01.01.2022 This month the children in the infants room have been exploring shapes and classification. The children discovered the shape matching bolts while visiting the 2-3 year old room. This interest coincided with the focus on shapes which saw the activity added to the program. The children have not only used the resource for shape exploration and sorting by colour but also the concept of soft, loud, fast and slow.
