The Alma Doepel was a 45m schooner (thanks Wikipedia) that was built in 1903. She was a trading vessel between Melbourne & Hobart and made frequent deliveries into St Helens. The boat builder was Frederick Doepel and his daughter’s name was Alma - hence the name. ... And also why Alma Place and Doepel Place in St Helens have their names.
