18.01.2022 For most vegetable farmers the season is finally slowing down. The days are shorter and the weather cooler. It's a time to reflect on the summer and tend to the slower growing autumn and winter crops. . For us seed farmers, it's all starting to ramp up. Collecting seed pods, drying fresh seeds, fermenting tomato and cucumber seeds before cleaning and hanging green seeds to dry in the breeze. . Today's haul were these gorgeous Royal Burgundy bush bean. We've grown these before... but sold out due to their high demand, hopefully we've grown enough this year for your next warm season bounty Great producers in hot and cool conditions and flower over a long period (they were still flowering today) providing a good supply of fresh beans over the summer. We love the colour as they sit fresh on our plates next to green beans, you can also slice them to brighten a salad with their purple exterior and green interior looking a little psychedelic. These clever beans also tell you when you've cooked them to perfection as they turn from purple to green (everyone hates an over cooked bean). Keep an eye out on our website for when these hit the 'shelves'. . #seedsavers #seedfarmer #growyourown #organicallygrown #eatlocal #southaustralia #gardeningaustralia #selfsufficient #organicgardening #australiangrown #fieldtoplate #kitchengarden See more

18.01.2022 T'was a little (okay a lot!) cold and frosty in our market garden this morning. It's a good thing frosty mornings usually mean sunny days What's your winter garden looking like?

17.01.2022 The end of a season for these Golden Nugget Pumpkins. . We have had two small frost this month which means the pumpkins, zucchinis and cucumber have all started to die back. . The best thing about pumpkins is that we will still be eating them for months ahead of us. #sagrown #growyourown #growlocal #gardeningaustralia #seedsavers #australiangrown #australianseeds #seeds

16.01.2022 Do you have a seed that tells a story? . Our purple carrots are one of our favourite year round vegetables! Shared with us by an old market gardener who has grown and selected his own seeds for many years. It's a priviledge to carry on his work of preserving these delicious carrots. .... #homegrownwithheart #homegrown #gardeningaustralia #seedsaving See more

12.01.2022 Natures pest control, beneficial bugs in action! If you have ever wondered what predatory wasps look like, here is a close up of some doing their thing. They are laying their eggs inside the aphids, then the larvae eat the aphid from the inside out. A bit gruesome, but kind of cool at the same time. While the babies may love feeding on aphid guts, the adults feed on nectar and pollen from flowering plants. So to attract these beneficials to your garden grow a variety of flowering plants year round. #beneficialinsects #wasps #insects #organicgardening
