22.01.2022 Hygiene and fertility A healthy smile is always more attractive, but it can also protect fertility in men and women. Studies have shown that poor dental hygiene can negatively affect fertility due to the increased risk of gum disease and tooth decay. Both are bacterial infections that can soon develop if you fail to brush and floss frequently and if you do not have regular dental check-ups and hygiene appointments.

21.01.2022 Giving your child's smile a bright future The best start to healthy adult teeth is with strong and healthy baby teeth. Although your child's primary teeth will fall out naturally, they are still susceptible to decay and gum disease and require a thorough daily oral health routine. Primary teeth that fall out too early can lead to permanent adult coming through crooked and requiring extensive orthodontic treatment to correct their misalignment. 18.01.2022 Never open bottles with your teeth We all know someone who does this. Opening bottles with your teeth might be a great party trick, but it’s probably not one that your dentist will thank you for. Take the extra few minutes to find a bottle opener, or better yet, buy twist top bottles or cans so you don’t need an opener at all.... One of the leading causes of broken or chipped teeth comes from people using their teeth for things they are just not intended to do. It only takes one unfortunate slip or a tricky bottle to lead to a dental emergency. See more

18.01.2022 Would you love a whiter smile? Essential teeth whitening facts. Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure that helps to brighten the appearance of teeth by removing surface stains. A treatment will lift your smile for quite some time before you need to think about re-whitening, depending on your lifestyle habits. The whitening products prescribed by dentists contain peroxide, either as hydrogen peroxide which is used in chairside whitening treatments, or carbamide peroxide which is commonly prescribed for use at home. https://www.helenastreetdental.com.au/would-you-love-a-whi/

16.01.2022 Bad breath under your face mask? Here’s why... Bothered by the unpleasant smell of your breath under your mask? If you can smell it in there, the mask isn’t the culprit. It is most likely an existing oral health problem you’ve just become aware of. According to the Academy of General Dentistry, over 80 million people in the world suffer from bad breath or halitosis and most of them don’t know that they have it. Now that we have to constantly wear a mask for protection, it is impossible not to notice the smell of our own breath.

15.01.2022 What is Oral Health? Oral health is an integral aspect of general health. Oral health is ‘a standard of health of the oral and related tissues that enables an individual to eat, speak and socialise without active disease, discomfort or embarrassment and that contributes to general wellbeing’. That is, oral health is more than simply the absence of disease in the oral cavity; it is a standard of oral functioning that enables comfortable participation in everyday activities.

13.01.2022 Jaw Muscle and TMJ Pain There are a thousand movements you do every day without even thinking about them. Talking, yawning, chewing, moving your mouth side to side, all this can only be achieved because of one thing, your Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ). Located just in front of your ears it’s one of the most used joints in your body and is what connects your jawbone to your skull. A jaw that’s misaligned can strain facial muscles and result in recurring headaches, face, and ne...ck or shoulder pain. This is known as Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD). Damage to the jaw from an accident or sporting injury as well as the presence of osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis in the jaw joint can also be contributing factors. To make an appointment, call us on (08) 9250 3100. You can also visit us at our practice which is located at 2/42 Victoria Street, Midland WA 6056. See more

08.01.2022 What Are Dentures? Dentures are a tried and tested way to restore missing teeth. Full dentures replace entire arches of teeth. A partial denture replaces one or more teeth missing in the same arch, but which don’t need to be side by side. A denture consists of an acrylic gum-colored base that rests on the gums and supports denture teeth. Partial dentures are frequently strengthened with the addition of a lightweight cobalt chrome alloy framework, and they often have clasps that fit around existing teeth, helping to hold the denture more securely in place.

01.01.2022 Teeth extractions at Helena St Dental Your oral health is our top priority Although it’s preferable to repair or restore in order to save a tooth whenever possible, there are times when tooth extraction may be necessary. Extraction of permanent teeth may be required in order to make space for orthodontic treatment. This is considered for people with a narrow arch that cannot accommodate all 32 adult teeth in the jaw, however, extraction is only considered as a final option.... Wisdom teeth removal is the most common tooth extraction procedure. These are often removed before they’re fully developed usually in the late teens to early twenty’s. It may also be recommended to extract a tooth that has been severely damaged in an accident or has extensive decay or periodontal disease. https://www.helenastreetdental.com.au/teeth-extraction-mid/
