21.01.2022 All the business in the land! And one pops up above it. Staying above the noise is easy when you turn everything off. My ten years living in the desert as a young woman, without and 'information devices (including no radio)', taught me a lot about life.... I feel incredibly lucky, and even though I was criticised for it at the time and sometimes have small doubts about, the lessons were rare and unique, and many never have this privilege, therefore have no capacity to disseminate how their minds are manipulated by what comes into their airwaves. We should protect that space. It is ancient, sacred. Putting more awareness around it is helpful. Otherwise, we are programmed to do the bidding of 'the noise'.
18.01.2022 So terrible ... more in the theme of the last post. The artist using the brush as a vicious weapon of malicious revenge. "The Mother in Law". Many years ago ... from the den of the disgraceful raging artist (me) conjuring dark tales about powerful women I could not understand at some insane time of my life before I understood anything at all about anything at all .... let alone myself - and that kind of thing - all the razzamatazz of si...lliness. Revolutionaries revolt until the ideals and dreams we fought and died for are all revealed as corruptions and vulnerabilities. Then we just flop comfortably into an armchair and reach for the remote. (see the heart that has fallen on the floor) Bwaaaha ha ha... I don't miss those days. But I love the passion of them. Oh, I tried to put this old hag on a 'wall' in the app - and battled to find one that could handle her. Imagine having that looming over your little afternoon cocktail rest? See more

17.01.2022 I had this issue, as we do with someone who was casting very severe judgment upon me (maybe it was justified ... because I never got to defend myself) anyway, sometimes I get asked, "How do you deal with criticism in your work etc?" - well this is how I work it out sometimes. Well when I was a bit younger and more feisty and arrogant. I would just give them a good 'painting justice' and this always helped me feel so much better. This painting is called "Marcelle". I do hop...e IG or FB does not sensor it, it is art after all! She was censored out of my Facebook Shop as far too lude. Do you know ... we have never in our entire history been so censored as now? It's quite bizarre don't you think? If you are seeing this - I am relieved. If you are a painter or even dabble, do you use your art to get your revenge? As I say, this was a while ago, now I just want to 'sort it out'. See more
17.01.2022 A little morning activity - behind the scenes. BUT on a lighter note, This is that gorgeous large limited edition "Can You Hear Anything" which is heading off to its new home today. That one is 96cm x 122cm Framed (hence it did not fit in my usual boxes). Nothing a bit of patience, determination and a sharp box cutter couldn't sort out! https://www.helennorton.com.au//prod/can-you-hear-anything... #helennortonart #helennorton #limitededitions #artforsale #fineartprints #behindthescenes #studioscenes See more
13.01.2022 Good Monday morning! A little colourful detail from the larger painting "Waterhole of Earthly Delights" to start the week off.
12.01.2022 A Spotty Dog (that looks like a giraffe in case you get too comfortable with your expectations), to brighten up your morning! xxx
12.01.2022 'The Rabbit' A little adventure into the imagination ... for Sunday morning. No doubt some might find it a bit scary or something. Again as yesterday, more of something to ponder.

09.01.2022 Woopee... the Red Boat painting - sold today in Margaret River. Thank you @jahrocgalleries xxxx The three-part video of me painting this is on my YouTube channel (Well part 1 and 2 and part 3 is on its way!) 09.01.2022 We never used to talk about our sales in the old days. It was considered a bit couth!. so it's been hard to get used to doing that now. But it seems its the thing to do on social media. I hope it also inspires other artists to get their work out into the world. Just got a call from Lara @jahrocgalleries in Margaret River to tell me one gorgeous client is taking home these four works, no actually it's five... the little Mr Moustache is heading off too. That's just wonderful. ...Thank you Jarhroc Team. I think what is worth saying is this, for artists who are reluctant to put their work 'out there' for sale, just do it. If it is not out there with a price tag on it, people can't buy it. Logical but often a sticking point for many starting or even mid/late-career artists if I am honest. Its a strange thing but true! I was dallying around with tons of half-finished works in my studio, and it was only because Jahroc rang me to put a rocket up my bum that I got them done and sent them down... I felt guilty as I had not sent work for a while as I was farting around with 'other things'... (all creative ventures). I am glad I responded to my guilt and that Jo is good at firing rockets at the right spot. xxx You can see the other new works in this lot I sent down on my website here. https://www.helennorton.com.au/collec/original-art-for-sale
08.01.2022 Another narrative work, with a story for you to unpack or discover. . "Namlamina" ... I won't waffle, so I don't get in your way as you read the images.
08.01.2022 What about a simple 'Beastie 1'. Very small works on paper. 25x20cm Just one of those leftover brain things that fall out when I am getting to the end of painting a major show. This was from the "Creatures" Exhibition. I sometimes think these 'crumbs' are the best works! Mindless nonsense is very appealing.
07.01.2022 This is "The Dunno Bird Disturbed". 92 x 122cm oil, SOLD It's about secret outback billabong business, which I can't tell you about because then it would not be a secret and then I would have to frighten you. I just hope you enjoy pondering over what happened.... All my love Helen xxx
07.01.2022 Here is 'Chopping Man' (sold) I have put in some close ups so you can see the little bloke going at it! And see the texture etc. Its oil on wood, so nice to be able to work up the texture. Love working with oil on panel.
05.01.2022 Howdy folks. It's a lovely autumn day here in Perth. Just sending you some love and nice things as I mix up some flesh, and check out my secret fish and watch my cows grazing. Days like this - the shoulder seasons in Perth - are mind glowingly lovely. I hope your day has gone well. xxx #helennortonart #helennorton #workinprogress
05.01.2022 While we are on 'strong women', please meet 'SHE'. What can I say to you about her? Around the same time as the revenge paintings, this one was just sheer joy, colour, form and all that.
04.01.2022 You name it - I can't remember but I knew the feeling at the time! Have you ever had a big gigantic 6-foot poisonous snake leap at you? My early adult life was so strange ... certainly not about trying to get seen on social media
03.01.2022 Here you are - a very tiny snippet from my big 10-hour Landscape in Oil Workshop - it has so much goodness in it. Not just the actual painting, but everything I know about using oil paints, from my actual studio, and how I do it, including safety, mediums and brushes and other really good painters tips. If you haven’t ever used oils or have but want to get a bit more knowledge on using them instead of it being a hit and miss guessing game, then its all included in the work...shop and hopefully delivered with a bit of humour as well. There are also tons of other basics such as how to understand colour theory, how to desaturate colour and send it into the background and all that razzo jazzo. It's like a mini art school course. The meat and potatoes are, of course, the actual painting in real-time of a full landscape painting with an animal of your choice. Perfect for beginners OR painters who have been using other mediums or are self-taught and are sick of having to search everywhere to get what they need. It's all delivered via video also. BUT there are a TON of downloadable resources with all my special secret sauce supplies, and studio equipment! It's very specific. Links are included wherever possible. Link to the course right here - and for OCTOBER - 20% off the usual price! Woohoo https://cutt.ly/lfMX8Uf
01.01.2022 "The Octopus Girl" Acrylic on Paper 57x76cm. Is a work from my series 'Creatures'. Simple, clear and naive. I rarely use 'gold paint' or gold leaf, but I did in this one and also in another one, I will put up this week. That's it, the only time ever, I promise!
