20.01.2022 Flag Day c1911 at Helensburgh Public School, with the new north wing on the left, built by local builder George Rickett in 1907. Continuing the enthusiasm of the previous day's Empire celebration, a large number of the residents assembled at the public school on Saturday afternoon to witness the opening of a new wing which the increasing attendance of children had necessitated. The extra building is of brick, the contractor, being Mr. Geo. Rickett, and the price over 600. Th...e District Inspector of Schools (Mr. McKenzie) had been invited to perform the ceremony, and in the course of an able speech explained the great change that was gradually being introduced in teaching methods. Mr. A. A. Horan, M.P., of Western Australia, followed in a speech that was interestingly reminiscent of the early difficulties encountered by himself, as chairman of the School Board and secretary to the Progress Committee, in the efforts made to secure adequate educational facilities for Helensburgh. Mr. W. P. Mitchell, President Bulli Shire, Mr. T. Horan and Councillor Spiller, who presided, also spoke in a hopeful and encouraging strain, dwelling upon the advantages of education. The Helensburgh Band was in attendance. At an adjournment the health of Mr. Campbell (the head teacher) was enthusiastically drunk; as was also that of Mr. McKenzie. 'Prosperity to Helensburgh' was responded to by Dr. Kerr, 'The Mining Industry' by Mr. Laws, 'The Contractor' by Mr. Rickett. 08.01.2022 The oven front has been returned. Thank you, thank you. It would not have been there for so long except the Men's Shed was closed for some months due to COVID-19. They had organised a truck to pick it up yesterday but it had gone. Now to organise the truck again.

05.01.2022 Stan Griffith's original grocery van, c. 1930s.
05.01.2022 Hi all, Back in 1993 I purchased a little piece of history from a warehouse in Sydney. This piece of history was a 1928 Chrysler Van which used to belong to AJ... Luck & Son Butchers in Helensburgh. I planned to restore it in 3 years but it has taken me 28 years. I have now almost completed the van and I am desperately trying to obtain some photo's of it when it was sign written so I can reproduce the sign writing on the vehicle. If anyone has any photos of the Luck's Butchers van I would be forever grateful to see them. Below are a couple of photos of the Van when I purchased it and one of how it is as of today nearing its completion. TIA - Mark Bentham
05.01.2022 Stanwell tops camping ground in the 1930's Stanwell Tops has its origins as a private parcel of land owned by property developer Henry Ferdinand Halloran. Sin...ce the 1930s, the area had been host to health retreats, recreational facilities, and popular bushwalking tracks. The Stanwell Tops Pleasure Park complex operated during the 1930s and 1940s and evolved into a caravan park, until it was shut down in 1951 due to stagnating business. At the same time, the majority of the site was subdivided and sold, creating the permanent community that exists today.[8] The site of the dance hall, the only remaining building of the former Pleasure Park, remained unused until it was sold in 1970 to a private owner who renamed the property and the accompanying mineral pools as the 'Garden of Peace', a meditation retreat and de facto community centre. At the turn of the century, the site was sold again and in 2003 opened as the boutique hotel and function centre 'Tumbling Waters Retreat'. National Library
