25.01.2022 We often get asked whether undermount or above counter basins are the way to go for a bathroom vanity. They both have their place, and their Pros and Cons. Let's look at undermount - where the basin rim is fixed to the underside of the countertop. PROS:... - Elegant, seamless look which works really well when you're after a classic look or want minimal, clean lines and reduced visual clutter. - Super easy to clean, as spills and splashes can be wiped straight into the basin. - No need to worry about whether you need to reduce the height of the bench top to allow for basin height as both basin and bench are one. CONS: - With the whole of the basin positioned beneath the benchtop, storage space within the vanity is sacrificed, particularly if it was drawers you were hoping for. These scenes are from #projectheightsreno, where a classic, elegant scheme dictated the vanity designs. 22.01.2022 Cue some serious bedroom envy... here comes the master at #projectheightsreno. And defying all the rules of isolation, it's exquisitely and delightfully TIDY. Apart from the obvious appeal of not also being a work-from-home space littered with the detritus of homeschooling and worn active-wear... it's a gorgeous room and we're pretty proud of how it turned out. Classic styling layered with calming colours mixed with cosy textures coupled with a stunning ensuite, spr...inkled with a new layout and finished with a luxury walk in robe... it's a winning reno recipe. 22.01.2022 It was lovely to be asked by Homes.com.au about our hot styling predictions for 2020! Read about it here... https://www.homes.com.au//hot-interior-styling-trends-for/

19.01.2022 Spoken by Dr Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar, and just about every interior designer on the planet. The way we see it, an investment in good design is an investment in life-improvement, and that's the guiding principal behind how we approach each and every one of our projects.

18.01.2022 We have EXCITING news! While we do love working from our home offices (here's Sally sauntering to hers at the #gloucesterstreetproject - one of the very first projects that kick-started Heliconia), planets sometimes align and timing sometimes works out in funny ways... and this time next week we'll be moving in to a new studio! ... As we slowly emerge from our Covid hibernations, we're pumped to have a central spot to welcome our clients, house our huge library of samples, collaborate with our suppliers and generally live the work-life dream (all at a safe and sanitised distance of course). A bit of setup and fit out to happen first but just had to share the news !!! Pic by @simonwhitbreadphoto Build by @realmbuilding See more

18.01.2022 Hanging plants... The ultimate styling accessory whenever we have a high open shelf situation. They add colour and texture to the scene and have a gorgeous softening effect on the hard lines of the shelves, drawing the eye up like a beautiful living artwork . These are our current go-tos in our toolkit (swipe across). 1. Emerald Falls - a gorgeous dusky sage in colour, we love using this plant when we don’t want too much visual bulk on a shelf but rather a soft, delicate ef...fect. (Also comes in a more muted colour as ‘Silver Falls.) 2. Devils Ivy - this old faithful can be used for high impact and bold colour especially when it’s a healthy, full, living-its-best-life specimen. 3. String Of Pearls - with its long pretty strands this succulent is a set and forget option that’s brilliant for softening up hard surfaces in bathrooms and laundries. We’d love to hear of any other hanging plant heroes we could add to our toolkit. Many shelves to style... 14.01.2022 The photos of our recent photo shoot are IN! And this bad boy is one of our FAVOURITES! It's got festive, it's got contrast, it's got live greenery, it's got barn lights, it's got THOSE TILES... etc, you get the idea. Talk about a statement entrance! At #Projectburringbar, it's all about monochrome magic, and we had an absolute ball dressing it up in a festive flavour. 14.01.2022 The photos from our project shoot are LANDING! And what better way to begin the showcase than with this gorgeous kitchen. So about this project.. firstly, we've decided to give it a new name. After spending the whole day there a couple of weeks ago (basically taking over the home getting all the angles on film), there was much ooh-ing and aah-ing about the internal garden / courtyard and the way the louvered windows along the corridor make you feel like the ferns and rock...ery garden are inside the home, and how the gentle breeze brings in the scent of the greenery outside. It was the very first concept - bringing the garden 'into' the home - that informed the entire design of the house. SO, we're now calling this project #thebreezeway (has a nice ring to it, don't you think?). More on the actual Breezeway itself later... right now, THIS is the kitchen at #thebreezeway. As more photos come to hand we will go into some of the details and strategy for how we designed this gorgeous space. For now, let's just admire, and imagine ourselves settling in on one of those stools... Joinery by @luxejoinery Build by @methodbuildingprojects Pic by @simonwhitbreadphoto

13.01.2022 SATURDAY PALETTE PLAY A tale of two palettes...watch as we tweak the ingredients to go from one look - let’s call it ‘Moody Urban’ - to another, which I’m branding ‘Coastal Glam’. A bit of fun and a conversation starter - which is your vibe today, the start, ‘Moody Urban’ or the end, ‘Coastal Glam’??... #palette #tiles #moodboard #interiordesign #interiors #homedesign #design #home #inspo #inspohome #decor #styling #coastalhomes #sydneyhomes

10.01.2022 At a recent industry event we heard about how the colour forecast for 2020 is all about warmth. Neutrals that leave cold greys behind and embrace the cosy feel-good-factor of a warm palette. Think browns, terracottas, biscuits and blush, paired with indigo, gold and sage. That's not to say grey is gone! But we're moving into greige territory - a warmer hue that works well with natural materials and textures. (Funny how our branding draws on all of these colours for a combo ...we were instantly drawn to...18 months ago!) Swipe for some inspiration of these hues in situ. Love it? Or not ready for the change? . Pics via Pinterest . #colour #interiorstyling #warmneutral #paintpalette #colourpalette #homeinspo #dreamhome #interiordecor #homedecor @ Manly Beach, Sydney Australia

10.01.2022 BEFORE & AFTER The ensuite at #projectheightsreno was pokey and dark before we got our hands on it. As part of a total second storey renovation, we redid the layout of this bathroom and stole some space from an adjoining room, introduced a skylight and louvered windows and set to work on a design that ticked style, storage and sophistication boxes in a BIG way. Marble flooring, custom cabinetry and lighting and the most elegant of tapware = job done. ... Want more pics of this pretty project? 08.01.2022 Humanity has hit the brakes on life as we knew it, and to say the situation is overwhelming is the understatement of the century! Staying at home all day every day is an adjustment that still feels so surreal, but if we do this right and do it right now, we can look forward to a bright future, with our loved ones by our sides. #stayhome #covid19 #homebody

06.01.2022 Spring is nearly here! and I honestly can’t remember a year that I looked forward to it with such... INTENSITY as this year! It’s time to dust away the cobwebs (both literally and figuratively) and get excited about the warmer days ahead, and we’re starting with the front door. Here are our top tips to energize the home entry:... 1. Wipe away the grit and grime on the front door and sidelights. Give windows a good clean including screens and trims. 2. Power hose the tiles / pavers to restore them to their former moss-free glory. 3. Beat the dust from the door mat. Or if that’s a lost cause, invest in a new one. 4. Give the greenery some love. Cut away dead leaves of existing plants. Give them a fertilising feed and give the leaves a spritz with white oil. 5. Style the scene. Inject a lantern or two, spruce up any porch furniture and launder cushion covers. If you’re looking to introduce potted plants, try a trio arrangement and play with scale and shape of both plants and pots while keeping the pots themselves consistent in colour. This is Renee at #projectburringbar where a monochrome base is being brought to life with the good greens. Photo: @simonwhitbreadphoto See more

03.01.2022 On Monday we explored the pros and cons of undermount basins. Today it's ABOVE counter basins' moment in the spotlight! And they do love a spotlight. Above counter or 'Vessel' basin are there to attract attention, and be part of the design statement. PROS: - Generally, as long as you don't have to lower the benchtop too much for them, these allow you to maximise storage below bench height, as the full basin is exposed above counter. ... - They allow you to play with shape, colour and texture (hello concrete!), to bring another element of interest to your bathroom scheme. CONS: - For tall basins you may need to lower the bench height so the basin rim is still at a functional elevation. - Cleaning can be a little trickier around the back and along the join where basin meets bench.
