23.01.2022 Jiman/Bundjalung woman and Emeritus Professor, Judy Atkinson invites us all to always carry a little song in our dilly bag, over our shoulder, especially when we are feeling self doubt or emotional pain. We can just reach around and pull it out whenever we need to. Judy quoted Alaskan woman Libby Roderick’s song how could anyone ever tell you, you are anything less than beautiful... What’s your song and if you’ve not thought about this before, what might it be? 19.01.2022 Sleep is one of the three big fundamentals of life...alongside eating and breathing. Sleep keeps us synchronised as organisms and without synchrony, we’re in a world of trouble. For many of us, the pandemic has truly messed with our sleep.... Join Heliotropia on Monday November 30th for a free wellbeing webinar: The Psychology of Sleep. We’ll briefly explore the research and then move onto practical ways to strengthen our sleep health, especially at times like these. It would be great to have you in the room. 19.01.2022 What will you do this coming week? Here are a few heliotropic ideas do some reading and learning about the country you’re living, working and playing on and also love... learn and remember five important aspects of culture regarding country and share them in conversation with others you know in your local area learn a few language words this week, perhaps for plants, birds and animals on country. Write them down, practise them...know them and use them write your own acknowledgement of country that is informed by some of the learning you’re doing this week walk on country and practise deep listening and whole body mindful sensing - dadirri seek out NAIDOC week activities on country and get involved meet an indigenous person and don’t talk, just listen deeply read an indigenous wisdom story to a child you love listen to music created by Indigenous artists watch a documentary or feature film created by Indigenous artists read the Uluru Statement and see if you can learn parts of it by heart (tip: if you read it everyday twice a day, you’ll get there) reflect deeply on your own underlying assumptions...examine them, uncover them, look at them from all angles, challenge and question them consciously unlearn some of the stuff you’re carrying around (see assumptions above) that no longer serves you or anyone else Above all, be humble and generous and grateful. Open your mind, heart and hands to the simply extraordinary gift that is Indigenous Wisdom

15.01.2022 What might it feel like to step away from screens this weekend? It will all be there waiting for you after some time away. Humans are multi sensory beings and time in nature provides us with the greatest way to bring our senses to life

13.01.2022 Creating an ecosystem of wellbeing begins with our relationships. The reciprocal nature of relationships requires moment to moment effort and the rewards are incredible when we get it right. When our relationships are sound, co-regulation kicks inwe literally become one another’s co-regulators and this allows us to be intimate and playful together. If this research interests you, I am here to make it very practical. Please join Heliotropia for a free wellbeing webinar on Monday, November 2nd at 7pm (AEDT).
