21.01.2022 Have you ever heard of the Western Wall? Although its a lesser-known section of Purnululu National Park, its one of our favourites. Most people are more familiar with the Bungle Bungle Domes in the southern end of Purnululu. The stunning Western Wall is at the northern end of the national Park closer to Echidna Chasm, whereas the Bungle Bungle Domes are closer to Cathedral Gorge. ... Purnululu National Park is now closed, reopening in April 2020. However! 09.01.2022 FACES OF HELISPIRIT Meet John (Banjo) McAuliffe! HeliSpirits Chief Pilot at the head base in Kununurra. Banjo is a long-term Kimberley local and joined us in September 2019. However, this isnt the first time we have had Banjo on the team, he was Chief Pilot when the company was Heliwork WA from 2000 - 2008. Prior to this he was working as a Line Pilot in Derby over in the West Kimberley flying fixed wing, then with the addition of a helicopter to Derby he began flying bot...h. In recent times Banjo has been with Kimberley Steel and also Argyle Engineering in Kununurra. There are many tales from over the years were sure, however Banjo recalls back in 2002/2003 at the Mitchell Plateau base when the quolls ran riot at their camp. All food would have to be locked away, potatoes strung from the roof, even tea towels locked out of sight. The quolls would steal any food left out overnight, even stealing the tea towels for some comfy bedding! Although very cute, they got up to a lot of mischief and nothing was safe at the camp. Theres a bit of a sad end to the story as sadly the quolls in this area have now been wiped out by cane toads. Banjo loves the flying component of his job and also helping other pilots in the crew learning to fly at a high standard. With the incredible locations to fly over, its easy to easy to see why! Its great to have Banjo back on the team and were looking forward to the upcoming season with him as our Chief Pilot. Thanks Banjo!

To be successful in this role, you will be a highly experienced safety professional with proven ability to juggle operational requirements, strategic priorities and client relationships. You will partner with all levels of the business to influence and drive the group safety culture. Reporting to the Managing Director and Head of Quality & Safety, you will be supported by the Group Safety Co-Ordinator and work closely with all Department Heads. The position is preferably based in Broome with safety oversight across all bases including Adelaide, Karratha and Kununurra. There will be a requirement to travel between the bases from time to time to meet operational needs. It is essential that you have a strong understanding of safety management systems, preferably in an aviation environment. The role will include: Day to day safety leadership and direction to all levels of the Group. The analytical review and reporting of safety management system. The development and implementation of safety improvement activities. Ensuring that regulatory safety compliance is in place across the Group. 04.01.2022 Important Announcement We are devastated to be delivering this news to you, although with our community in mind and as a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic, we are following the advice of the Australian Government and World Health Organisation, deciding that the Kimberley Experiences Group will be ceasing all non-essential flying as well as all tourism services until further notice. This includes tourism services provided by Aviair, HeliSpirit, Bungle Bungle Guided Tour...s and the Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge. This certainly was not an easy decision for us, although as we live and operate in the region, we feel a strong sense of social responsibility to not only keep our guests and employees safe, but also to protect our broader Kimberley community. Freshwater East Kimberley Apartments will continue to operate and we have implemented stringent sanitisation procedures to ensure the safety of our staff and guests. Whether it is accommodation for those required to travel to the region, or for those that may require a place to self-isolate after crossing the Kimberley border, our self-catering facilities in 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments provide a great solution for all. We will also be offering a grocery and laundry delivery service to those who are in self-isolation to help ease the current pressures. These are unprecedented times for all of us and we understand the hardship that COVID-19 will cause us all. It is with great sadness that we have had to let many of our valued staff go as we respond to this everchanging and challenging situation.
