14.01.2022 I couldn’t believe how hard this fairly modest yellowfin bream pulled! Hooked on bass-weight baitcaster gear off a snag in drinkable fresh water, it punched wel...l above its weight, actually taking drag on three occasions - sure, only half a metre or so each time, but I don’t muck around when I set my bass drags. In fact, I checked it after landing the fish to make sure I hadn’t bumped the drag star or whatever and it was exactly where I’d set it - almost tight enough to cut into my hand! A 40cm+ bass I caught shortly after also went well, but couldn’t pull drag against that loaded-for-bear setting. It’s easy to underestimate the humble bream, but we really shouldn’t. They are great fish. Lure is from Hell yeah chatterbaits. These things have become my river go-to for bass in recent seasons. Blows me away how effective they are... and obviously not only on bass! 01.01.2022 Nothing huge, but a 12 bass afternoon isn’t anything to scoff at in my book. Couldn’t get them to come up and take topwaters or flies, but they were all over th...e Hell yeah chatterbaits. Must’ve had at least as many hits again that didn’t quite stick. Such a fun couple of hours in the yak. Seems like the bass are finally cranking up. Love this time of year! See more
