17.01.2022 Announcement re: Hellenika Gold Coast After 10 incredible years in business, it is with much sadness but also great pride that I inform you of the sale of Hellenika Gold Coast which is effective as of today. I will be retaining the name Hellenika and it will come off the building. Those of you who know me will appreciate what a difficult decision this has been. Hellenika Gold Coast marked my first foray into owning and operating a fully-fledged restaurant (following café bus...inesses Three Beans in Broadbeach and Little Beans at Nobbys Beach). It established my career as a restaurateur and enabled me to work with some of the best in the business. It also gave me a platform to grow my restaurant interests and was followed by The Fish House at Burleigh and more recently, Nineteen at the Star and sister restaurant Hellenika at The Calile. In a nutshell it has meant the world to me. With hellenika at the calile and opening @sk.steakandoyster I had to make a decision I acknowledge that the loss of Hellenika Gold Coast from the local dining scene marks the end of an era for many people, myself included and would like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been a part of the restaurants story. That includes staff, suppliers and of course, customers. I know Hellenika Gold Coast was really special for many of you & it was my privilege to provide a place where you were able to feel so at home. Im really sorry to be taking that away; I sincerely hope you understand my decision. So, it is with a heavy heart I close the doors on my Gold Coast restaurant journey for the time being at least. It will be a strange feeling not running a local venue, having been in business here since I was just 21 years old. I owe a lot to the Gold Coast and dont think I would have had the same opportunities anywhere else in Australia. I also credit the people of the Gold Coast for embracing the concept of a Greek restaurant at Nobbys Beach, For that, I will be eternally grateful. 09.01.2022 We are exciting to be hosting an intimate evening at Hellenika Nobbys Beach on Wednesday, July 17th, hosted by Greek wine specialist David Lamb of Douglas Lamb Wines. The Lamb family began importing wines in Australia in the 1820s and are now run by fifth and sixth generation Lambs; we are lucky to call them friends and an extension of the Hellenika family. Simon has curated a menu with David to reflect his month he just had in Greece, from the seafood-centric menus in Mykonos, the traditional dishes in Thessaloniki, and the comforting dishes from his fathers village in Sitaria. Since the Government Shutdown, we made the conscious decision to not go asleep at the wheel. Instead, weve been busy bettering ourselves, the team and the business. Hellenika and SK will remain as premium offerings. We want to reassure everyone that when we reopen, we will not be cutting any corners or taking any shortcuts. We will come back a stronger & more connected team than ever before. Our focus will always be on the team and making sure that our family unit is absolutely unbreakable. What started out as a little tongue & cheek, we started the Simon James University and some of the activities we completed as a team are as follows: -Studied a Wellbeing course online with Yale University. -We had @learnerlab join us from the US, talk to the team about mindsets and facing fear. It was very suited in the current climate and will be so helpful opening weeks. -Thrilled to have @robertfrouleau of @bevhillshotel join us and talk to the team about service standards at the hotel, creating workplace culture and handling difficult situations. A true gentleman with an unbelievable wealth of knowledge. -Enrolled in a Positive Psychology course at UNC -@dhmeyer has become a bit of a team mascot for us. Reading and discussing his book together as a group and watching numerous talks online. -Just this week weve started bringing small groups onsite, with live chef demos discussing some of our dishes and cooking in real time with the team. I was thrilled to share my avgolemono story with the team! -Our friends at @oceanmadeseafood will be joining our team next week, telling their story, how our relationship started and of course, about their beautiful produce. In the weeks to come, we will be offering more regular updates, including when we go live with reservations.
